Took a punt and got one of these after getting an email from MCS as I had been looking on Dell outlet and they are double the price. I love it, pretty much in a new condition and much quicker than my surface pro 2

Good price. Only downside I can see is that it has a slower processor than a 2011 Lenovo x220 i5

The CPU is more than adequate. This is i3 levels of performance and incredibly low power. 7w TDP whereas I'd imagine your Lenovo was around 35w.

It is designed so well, that's its huge upside, I have the older 5Y71, remarkably wonderful if you know about why.

Yes it does. USB 3.1 Type C. - use an adaptor/hub for backward compatibility - either Dell or aftermarket

Ooh, dual thunderbolt ports!
I'm loving my Dell XPS 13 with one, admittedly I don't use the thunderbolt aspect atm but it hooks up to a USB PD capable charger with ease. Suddenly I'm charging my laptop off one of those many USB port brick things. Next up, a thunderbolt dock to hook up 3 external monitors, networking etc. and an external GPU dock.

Its not bad but its not the 9hrs that Dell advertise! I've been using it for work and browsing and got about 5hrs from a full charge 3hrs streaming Netflix.
Has any one used this company OP is brand new so am very suspicious.

Yep.. I've bought a couple of tablets from them on previous HUKD posts.. they are great.
When you need service.. the owner replies by email and problems get sorted very quickly. They are aimed at businesses not individuals though, but even so i've had no problems.

Yeah, I bought a Venue 11 from them last year. The first unit had a fault with its keyboard connectors No ifs no buts, I sent a clear email highlighting how I'd diagnosed the fault so I was sure it wasn't user or other equipment error and the guy said no problem got a replacement despatched the next day and took the old one back.

can you please try to listen to the tablet when it attaches to the keyboard in quiet environment, can you hear any noise?

Ooh this is tempting. Battery life is the killer though. 3-4 hours just wouldn't cut it.

Good point about TDP, was just a bit surprised to see a lower benchmark for a 4/5 years newer laptop. I guess the focus during this time has been on lower heat dissipation and lower power consumption, which go hand in hand.
haleluohao
16 Sep 16#15
worth to mention that these TDP is not the limit these cpu can reach, these cpu can unlock the restrictions and get extra performance by increasing the TDP. But you need to make sure the tempature is not too high. Lots of tutorial on venue 11 pro i5y and atom model. Please note that intel core m it is the new intel y series.

I've been looking at these, and they seem like great value at this price, though probably worth paying a few quid extra for the much faster NVME (PCIe) SSD storage version if they're still in stock.
Battery life isn't ideal, and I wish computers of this format had 'thermal docks' to enable higher prolonged CPU performance when docked, but for this price it seems great.

I just don't see the point of having a portable device like this if the battery is so poor..

Reduces its portability a bit, but you could use an external battery pack. And a lot of people are not going to be away from a power socket (in a building, car or train) for more than four hours at a time.

Bear in mind, processor performance hasn't increased much over the last few years and for a processor with barely more power consumption than an Atom processor, I think the Core-m is impressive particularly in tablet PC's where it can run with no active cooling. It gets frequently slated but I think it's a good balance and prefer it to having a ULV processor that generally needs a noisy fan when used in a thin machine and I don't find the lower performance an issue, ULV processors aren't that fast and if I need to do anything CPU intensive I wouldn't use a ULV system.
I don't understand how the prices are so cheap with this company, they're showing a UHD Lat 12 for less than £400 when they're close to £900 on the outlet. I'm feeling a bit ill as I've been watching outlet prices on the Latitude 12's a while but just last week bought a Latitude 11 tablet and dock (much better battery life and better on lap use) but now quite tempted to one of the UHD ones to keep at work.

Also got one of these in response to the MCS email a couple of days ago - have used the company several times and always had good service.
Using it to type this and been working it hard at an event today - no complaints so far but can't comment on battery life yet as it is plugged in. Rest of the machine is really nice, good screen and keyboard and very snappy performance in web browsing and Office apps (much faster than an Asus S200 i3 that it replaces).
For the record, arrived in pristine condition (keyboard was still sealed). Doesn't include stylus in the box (which I knew) and the pen from the Venue 11 (also bought from MCS a while ago) doesn't work as this uses Wacom technology. Amazon have the cheapest price for the pen but delivery of 1-2 months...

Did you have the Venue 11 keyboard with the built in battery? If so how does this folio keyboard compare with that?

Yes, got both the Venue 11 keyboards - neither of the Latitude 12 keyboards include a battery but there is an external plug in battery available that connects to the USB C port.

To see an estimate of battery life I have detached the power cable and it is showing 6h 20m (100% charge, 40% screen brightness). It seems that the version with 4K screen resolution has a shorter battery life than the FHD version.

ccs_digital
17 Sep 16#33
Very well, keys are well spaced and have good travel with very little flex of the base. As good a typing experience as the Venue 11 mobile keyboard and considerably better than the Venue 11 folio keyboard.

Was that this seller you got the XPS 12 for that price for? They have they keyboard listed on its own for £200:
I have the 7350 and disappointed with the 7275, they seem to have taken as many steps forward as they have back particularly with the dock - given the poor batterylife on the tablet, it's a shame there isn't a keyboard with a battery, an adjustable hinge and full size USB ports. I like the Dell 2 in 1 design where the tablet becomes a laptop when docked rather than the Surface design which can't really be used on a laptop and needs more flat space to work with.

Received mine today. Went for 256gb nvme model for 443ish with shipping. I'm quite pleasefunny with the device, came practically brand new with sealed accessories and keyboard. Ordered pen from amazon for 29ish with nus discount. Delivery was 1-2 months but my estimated delivery date changed today to 27th September, so guess I'll get it within a week.
Overall, I'm very happy with the device. Nice screen (not 4k but imo for this size full hd is more than enough, keyboard is good too (not as good as my macbook pro bur still good), annoying as no full usb port only usb c, but I rarely use it anyway, can't comment on battery. Really wanted to try windows as been a mac user for past few years with windows 7 being the last version of Windows I use. So far I have to admit I like it, definitely keeping it instead of ipad air 2 it replaces (hard to really compare the 2), anybody else received theirs already?

How usable are machines like this as a laptop? (I mean can you use the keyboard on your lap, or does it really need a flat stable surface?)

You can but it's quite annoying because of the kickstand, despite that fact I consider the keyboard dock to be very stable, had no problems when I had laptop on the bed and I was moving around making it wobble, I was afraid it would fall but it kept very well:)
