​The Gatorskins is more geared up towards durability/puncture protection. Due to this, the tyre sacrifices speed as there's more friction and weight. The GP 4S basically is a good balance between rolling resistance, puncture protection, weight and durability. It has done really well in the wet too. I commute to work 4 days a week on these tires and so far I've been really happy with them.

Just to clarify I'm no expert but that's what I've learnt from my extensive research before deciding what to go for. I may not be 100% correct lol

I have gatorskins on my winter wheels. Absolute nightmare to change if you have a puncture. Very tight on the rim. Apart from that there good.

​Yup, gatorskin imo is the best tyre for puncture protection. GP 4S is the best all around tyre but in British winters not a great idea.

Are the folding versions any easier to get on? I find gatorskins really good but am tired of shredding my hands whenever I need to get them on and off!

They have the hardshells as well. Does anyone know the difference?

I've got a 10+ year old Raleigh mountain bike, I was thinking of putting slicker tyres on it as I only do about 2 miles a day on it and it's quite slow on the road with the off road tyres. I guess these won't fit first of all and would be overkill if they did?

The gatorskin is most definitely not the best tyre for puncture protection. That'd be the Schwalbe Marathon Pluses. Though they are a fair bit heavier and have much more rolling resistance.

Second that. Folding is the way to go. Much easier to put on and lighter.

Nope, tubeless is the best tyre for puncture protection. Eliminates pinch flats as well.

I haven't actually used any tubeless bikes, I imagine that they'd be more easily penetrated that the Marathon+'s though, in terms of sharp objects on the road?

Marathon Pluses are not aimed at road cyclists. They are unbelievably slow. They are commuter tyres.

Used gatorskins commuting in London for years, get about 2k miles out of each tyre before they start to puncture. Tried lots of other brands but keep coming back to them. The GP4s are great but only lasted me half as long and are expensive to replace, the marathons are indestructible but slow and a slog when you need a decent average speed.

Only downside with the gators is they are not the most grippy in the wet

​Tell that to my missus with the Marathon Pluses on her eBike happily tootling along at 18mph. Up a 10℅ incline. For 10 minutes at a time.

Thought only me about this tyre fitting but had to use three fittings clamps to fit tyre.

Ended up on specialized armadillos 4 season at the moment but I was looking for some of these previously. Will see how mine go over the winter months (as there's always more crap washed into the side of the road).

Nah, 30mls of sealant in each tyre and unless you really really try you'll remain puncture free. The added benefit is you can run much lower pressures too.
