You're joking right? As an avid fan of HUKD I can tell you now that no one will go to that level of research for a product. As I pictured above, this product is merely the next snake oil in a long list of snake oils. For those not up to speed on what that means it's basically a product that pertains to add something (in this case health benefits) when in reality it is no better than the norm (i.e veg oil etc).

There is no justification for adding it to the diet on top of the usual consumption of other fats. There is no credible evidence to support any of the many health benefits claimed for using it as a supplement.

Searching for any journal article on it in any medical journal gives 0 results for coconut oil + Alzheimer research etc.

Add to that "it's 300ml so good value" - yeah, so is 1 litre of veg oil for £1.20! There is absolutely no scientific evidence to promote this product, only fabricated user tests by suppliers of said product. But still, with all that said, the masses will flock to buy this, as they will the next snake oil out, and the next, and the next.

This is a great price and this coconut oil is very good. I recently stopped consuming dairy and I like to blend a spoonful of coconut oil into my coffee as an alternative to milk.
There is a lot of confusion on here about good fats and bad fats. The fact is studies are being done all the time of the effects of certain foods on health and in recent years this has included a lot of research on the benefits of fats. Saying that eating fat makes you fat or that saturated fat causes heart disease is the same as saying that icecream causes shark attacks.

coconut oil I'm B&M at £1.49! I use it for stir fry's it's great

It helped to get rid of my small area of psoriasis. Great for dry and itchy skin too. Just try it.

This is genuinely nice stuff. I've tried a few different coconut Oils and this one just seems to smell and taste nicer.

I made a nice curry using it (instead of vegetable oil) yesterday. Works great for Vegan Roast Potatoes, too.

On a side note, this coconut oil smells funny! My husband uses a different brand for moisturiser and I bought this for dry skin for the baby so she has her own jar, this smells a bit odd and leaves a funny after smell?

I'll try and find the link to the research paper later but the medium chains in coconut oil are processed by us as long chains. It was one of the gotchas of coconut oil being healthy in that you don't just look at the makeup of the product, you also have to look at how they're processed.

Being cold pressed and no solvents used gives it some health advantages over regular cooking oils at least. But coconut oil has been hyped so much by the producers this last year,its in all the bargain shops. It does have a multitude of other cosmetic uses as well as cooking. In south east asia it is used as a mouthwash as well as cleaning teeth mixed with baking soda.
i Think the health benefits are more in coconut water than the oil whether it be Organic,cold pressed or extra virgin oil.

What's more important is that it's long-chain saturated fat, which is the bad stuff. Not all saturated fat is bad, but coconut oil is as bad as it gets. Lard is like one of your five-a-day compared to it.

Good fats would be almond or peanut butter, avocado, fish and olive oil to name a few! Coconut oil is majority saturated fat!

I am from India and used coconut in some shape or form everyday. We used coconut oil to massage babies and as hair oil. I would not rave about it though, it's as good as any other natural oil. I would definitely not use it for everyday cooking either as its high in polyunsaturated fats. I do eat fresh coconut in my curries and they taste great. I think this hype is made by some celebrities promoting coconut oils.

Rapeseed and coconut oil ok for frying at high temp ( as well as butter , ghee, goosefat) as they release far fewer toxins compared to sunflower/ veg/ soya oils . Use lard it's cheaper

The stand out surprise information comes around the 17 minute mark, proclaiming that the pressed unrefined coconut oil is more suited to cooking with (especially at high temperatures).
That goes against all that health bloggers say (and what I've been doing sometimes). Claiming a low smoke-point for the 100% raw pressed. :confused:

There was a program on channel 4 that attempted to find out some answers. Not perfect evidence, but at least some effort is put in the research and test.

I use this product all the time for cooking chicken.

I despise the taste, smell and texture of coconut, but this doesn't give any flavour to food at all, and has a much higher smoking point than usual oils, therefore it doesn't break down in your system as much so is "healthier".

And you only need a half a teaspoon for a few chicken breasts, for example, so it will last a while.

Aside from any health benefits, this stuff is great for frying with, doesn't smoke like veg or olive oil

Anyone used this for deep frying? Does it have any taste?
