Are these worth it? We have a gift voucher that has a year TasteCard as an option.

To be honest, for some stuff, if you have a NUS card, at places like Pizza Express and Prezzo it's pretty much the same (40%) using that if you don't plan on ordering stuff of exactly or very similar value to your guests.

worst company ever, watchout for auto renewal and make sure you have million calendar events to cancel it. Even if you are 1 minute over the time specified they will charge you £40.....

To be fair it isn't the fault of the company that people forget to cancel. I picked up a free 3 month trial and have so far used it once saving £34.. can't complain at that!

Just be very careful about cancelling as it is a subscription automatically when you sign up, make sure you cancel the same day or you are charged 39.99 per year.

I've contacted customer services but they're having none of it which I suppose is fair enough but I was hoping for some sort of good faith refund as it was on the first day of the renewal. I ended up creating a dispute through paypal that has been elevated to a claim as they didn't respond in the allocated time so I'm hoping the decision goes my way.

Same happened to me, but with Gourmet Society. They lied and said they will send me an e-mail reminder just before payment will be taken, but I checked my inbox and junk and nothing was there. Called on the day to cancel, and was told that payment had already been taken at midnight, and there was nothing they could do. Raised a dispute with PayPal, and got a refund after a week. Yes, I cancelled my subscription the same day I received my card.

When you cancel via the link i posted in the deal, it tells you your card remains valid for the rest of the trial period and will not be renewed.

no 1 son had problem getting the discount in ?? (can't remember which restaurant) as they said he hadn't said it was a tastecard booking when he made the reservation. Grudgingly gave it him when he made it clear he would not pay bill till they did so.

One of the reasons is "to stop auto renewal" and I have done this and got an email stating I can still use the card for the trial period.

Unable to apply for it again as I applied for one some months back under the same promotion. Any way around this??

Just done exactly that and it worked fine. Cancellation email stated I can use it until the card expires.

I can also confirm you can cancel the auto renewal, while leaving the trial period active. Same applies if you have a yearly sub.

I haven't had problems previously. But this time around I had called to cancel a couple of months ago when I signed up for the trial. Fortunately I spotted a warning email the other day that they would auto renew next month. Gave them a call and the agent said auto renewal hadn't been turned off on my account.

Just tried the link and it now tells me the last agent has cancelled renewal. So thanks for the link, will use that in future :smiley:

Worst company I've dealt with. Horrendous auto-renewal as mentioned in this thread. Appalling service when challenged. Trustpilot score about as bad as it gets with the number of people this company has basically scammed with its no notification auto renewal for a year at full price. I'm pretty hopeful that practice will be blocked by UK consumer law soon, it needs to be.

Wouldn't touch it if you offered me a £50 amazon voucher for signing up for this trial. Abstained from voting as not OP's fault.

Warning I cancelled within the deadline, and had email to confirm it in writing... they still took the renewal from my bank.

Bought this while I was at the table in Zero Degrees tonight.

Used the app to show the card within a few minutes and saved £25. Doesnt get hotter than that.

To all those getting in a pickle about auto-renewal (with this or other things like Radio Times £1 offers): don't waste your time with cancellations processes, etc......just go online and cancel the dd's or automatic payments at your own end via the bank. Not paying is an excellent method of bringing matters to an end. Your 'contract' is not for a year unless you cancel, it's for 3 months (for which you've paid in advance). You do not need some sort of 'official' cancellation regardless of what any blurb tries to suggest.

At all times avoid 'recurring payments' from a credit card however which, astonishingly, can only be cancelled by the recipient. How the government allows that one is beyond me.

Why would the bailiffs come knocking? You have not broken any contract (you already paid in advance for it).

Its not a DD or Standing Order though, its a recurring Credit Card payment? You can't control or cancel that? Unless you cancel the card I would imagine in between. Bit of a hassle though.

That's why I said to avoid recurring payments in my first post.
