Monitors seem to work better esp if you have 3 horizontal, kind of slight wrap around. but personally I think
21:9 monitors are the future.

Right, but just because you can't afford it or have the room, doesn't mean everyone else doesn't, so its impractical for you, but not for others. it takes all sorts.
You could argue the same for VR, yet plenty of us are buying PSVR, Vive or Rift..
If we all went by the same requirements technology wouldnt move very far, its not just games these are good for though, when you need a lot of screen real estate, Music, Video, Photography etc.

yes pointless for TV but pretty good for a monitor. the difference is with a monitor generally only one person is viewing. therefore they can be I. the sweetpoint of the curve.

That's nice but I don't have either the desk space or the money - and still can't see any benefit whatsoever in a curved monitor. It's a very limited amount of moving around or changing position you're actually going to be doing at a computer desk, playing a game.

Okay completely ignoring the cost and space implications, you've not made any case for any benefit to having a curved monitor. I mean you could do that set up with any decent normal monitor and you would not notice a single difference. That's pretty much the point.

Im not trying to make any point, or even defend curved screens all I am saying is it makes more sense using them as monitors in parallel than it does as a TV, you can't dismiss it as gimmick technology because it doesn't suit your needs.
But I would argue that 3 curved monitors would aesthetically look better at least.
I could ask why you are even on this thread if your not interested?
I'm only here because I am building my boy a gaming PC for christmas and just keeping an eye on part prices.
I can imagine this kind of setup is pretty common among hardcore PC Gamers.

Curved monitors are imo easier on the eye and when playing games, that little more immersive

As you've conceded - it's purely aesthetics - which is not really a decent reason to pay over the odds for what is a fairly standard spec monitor. How old is he? Cos I doubt he'd be too bothered if you got a cheaper 27" monitor to be honest - unless there's some kind of monitor posing race going on at school. Which in this day and age is somewhat unlikely.
I'm not interested in a new TV either but I frequently look at TV deals on here too. The horror!

My son would be bothered about getting a decent monitor than a cheap one. wouldnt buy 1 27" unless it was 4k 24" is max size I'd choose for 1080p hence why i looked at this, the curve was a mute point for me as I keep saying..
Can you imagine though the reality is some people want things you dont...The horror!

Would some monitor expert be kind enough to give me some advice. I do not play any computer games, but use computer mainly for Chrome browsing, word processing and Excel spreadsheets. I find 1200 by 800 more than enough. I always use 2 monitors, and my most useful one is a 16:10 Dell, which was very expensive, some years ago. I find the depth just as important as the width, and 16:10 monitors are rare and very expensive. What are the attractions of a curved monitor for non games use? Thanks.

I used to work on 2 27" iiyama displays for massive spreadsheets that even at that size spanned was a nightmare and I've since tried the same with curved monitors & it gave a much more pleasant "personal" experience than 2 huge flat panels in front of you.
Highly recommended for complex spreadsheets imho

I quite like the curved options on bigger monitors. Completely agree it's pointless gimmick on a TV, but with a monitor you are sat much closer to the screen and with screen sizes pushing 30 inches these days the flat screen, whilst good, may begin to present some viewing angle issues although likely to be very minor. With this level of monitor though you're likely to notice no difference. I'm keeping an eye out for something like the HP Z34c from their Z series range.

It's all about viewing angles.
TFT tech has always had an issue of bad contrast and colour reproduction when viewing a pixel that isn't directly in front of you. This is true for TN, IPS and other types of panels.
By curving the screen, you allow the eye to see the pixels 'straight' on, relative to its curvature.
I actually agree that for a TV it isn't for most people. There is a disadvantage of those at the edge of the screen (not sitting central to it) can actually see less / worse angles for some pixels in a standard home setup.
This isn't true though for a standard desktop. The curve can really help for image quality, as you're forcing the pixels to align with the eye.
Worth a premium? depends on the cost really. I'd go all curved given the chance, but there needs to be more options on the market.

I think you got it totally wrong. The facts that you stated are the perfect reasons why curved screens are better for PC gaming. It is the fact that when you're at a desk and that you don't change positions which makes a curved monitor more suitable as you would benefit from always sitting in the "sweet spot" and at close proximity for immersion.
Larger curved tv screens are less immersive due to the greater distance that you would normally sit from those screens and the fact that not everyone might be able to sit in the central sweet spot.
