Amazon is opening up preorders for the Echo in the UK today, priced at £149.99 in the UK. However, Amazon Prime customers will be able to get £50 off Echo preorders if they order in the next two days.
*** What is Amazon Echo? ***
The Amazon Echo is a voice-controlled smart speaker, which incorporates Alexa – Amazon’s AI (similar to Google Now on Android or Siri on iOS). As you can see from the design of the speakers, they provide 360º omni-directional audio. It incorporates far-field voice recognition so that it can hear you from across the room.
Alexa can be used to answer questions on news, weather, traffic etc. The speaker can be used to play music from Amazon Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn and others.
The Echo can also be used to control your smarthome, including lights, switches, and thermostats compatible with WeMo, Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, Wink, Insteon, Nest, and ecobee smart home devices
*** Terms and conditions ***
- New and existing Amazon Prime members who pre-order Amazon Echo (“Promoted Product”) on http://www.amazon.co.uk during the validity of the offer will be eligible for a £50 discount on the full price (£149.99) of the Promoted Product (the “Offer”).
- The Offer is valid until 16 September 2016 at 5:00 p.m. or while supplies last, whichever is earlier.

And the bonus to this is that once all your friends and family have deserted you because they think you are a tool because all you do is show everyone who walks through the door, you can pretend it's your friend and have conversations with it and not feel quite so lonely.
