This cordless electric kettle is stainless steel (so your tea doesn't taste of plastic), it has a water gauge which lights up (so you don't boil more than you need), it uses 3KW power (boils fast), and has a limescale filter and pop up lid. It comes with a 2 year guarantee but you can register it on the Russell Hobbs website to get a 3rd year. All in all this was the best value kettle I could find. True, it does not have 'half price' or a higher price crossed out shown, but that doesn't mean this isn't good value at £19.99.
There is a caveat to the guarantee in the instructions, as it advises it should be descaled monthly and states products returned because of faults due to scale will be subject to a repair charge.

Who de-scales their kettle every month!?

I have never descaled a kettle, I must admit.
Looking online it seems a bottle of descaler which would descale a kettle ten times costs £1.50.
ME! ... use Brita filter jug, descale with citric acid or white vinegar and keeps the kettle looking like new!

We would in NE London normally. I have to use de-ionized water in the Tefal Steam generator;
We purchased a cheap Lidl SilverCrest kettle which to my great surprise, sheds, rather than coats the scale.
So, although not the fastest boiler we've had, the convenience of just rinsing the scale out with a fast tap water burst, makes the Silvercrest a great buy for us.

Depends where you live. Here in the West Midlands we steal our (soft) water from Wales and never need to descale. In parts of the South East where I used to live the hard water can ruin a kettle in weeks.

I use Brita jug and change filter once a month. But still I need to de-scale both the kettle and a thermos flask.
But I use only the Lemon residue (both nearly-dried pulp and peel) each time after I make Lemonade. Just boil the water with the residue in it and leave them overnight. Works magically and shining like a star!
A bit advise that remove the plastic or silicon red thing inside the kettle, it tastes much better after. I learned from another forum after two years use. what an idiot I am! :confused:

It does taste of plastic. Every other boil if you don't change the water.

I recently binned my third Russell Hobbs kettle. I dismantled each one first to check if it might be repairable, and having seen how ridiculously fragile (cheap and nasty) some of the internal components are, anything Russell Hobbs is ice cold from me.
I replaced it with one of these, mainly on the basis that it's not a Russell Hobbs and because of the "Which" recommendation:
"George Home Black (or White) Fast Boil Kettle £12.00 @ Asda
I bought one of these 'bad boys' when my last kettle packed up.it came 2nd in a 'which' magazine research not so long back .It is so fast in boiling water and the price is excellent also.I thoroughly recommend it."
I just checked and it appears to still be available at the same (£12) price.

The gauge in the side is plastic and the taste will build up if the water does not get changed. It will dissapear over time
