At launch it was a terrible broken mess and it took quite a while before it was working. However now it mostly works, not a perfect port by any means but totally playable.

Ed boon recently tweeted a critic message that implies the PC port will be taken back in house at NetherRealm. Predictions are that the game will now receive a netcode overhaul for better online performance and bring the dlc up to date so PC owners will hopefully finally get the XL pack including Predator, Alien Etc! Better late then never - good time to buy cheap now in advance of update. Heat added.

I don't think the update is free... Pretty sure they are going to make it a separate package like console versions.
