I have been looking around for a decent cheap dual SIM smartphone to use abroad and see Aldi have this Medion Life E5005 on offer from 28th August for £69.99.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about the phone online, but seems to be decent specs for the price.

what does it mean by powerful quad core processor, is it 1.2 Ghz or less?
I would not buy it, but maybe that is interesting for someone. Some heat added.

in all reality how much extra would it cost manufacturers these days to put 2gb ram instead of 1gb? im sure for only a few quid more it would make these cheap phones much more pleasurable to use. get with the programme phone manufacturers!

Like too many Aldi specials there'll be 10 at each store and once sold out, end of.
Pity because on paper, not a bad deal for something unlocked, dual SIM, available in-store and easy to return if faulty. The 1GB RAM is fair enough at this price.

Not sure if you directed your reply at the wrong thread (Lenovo?) but as per reply #2, this phone has a MediaTek MT6735M (1.0 GHz) processor. I'm interested to know are MTK processors really that bad? I haven't used a phone with one, but I have read that it's difficult to install CyanogenMod on MTKs (a chief consideration in my eyes).

Mediatek havent released sources, against terms of the GPL. Considering how buggy their drivers are, it would be a good thing, but they're just another money grabbing company releasing sub quality parts. The GPS is still awful even now. Benchmark well (whoopty doo) bit don't expect much in the way of battery life with mediatek based devices. Some code for the jiayu s3 was leaked last month which may help - I had that phone for 2 weeks, it was utter crap like every other mediatek device I've tried, sent it back partly because of issues but mainly because of all the spyware built in.

I've just bought one. I dropped my Samsung not long after buying it and cracked the screen. Everyone I know who has a Sammy has the statutory cracked screen. It died on me last week, just out of warranty, so when I saw one of these at Aldi for £70 I couldn't see how I could go wrong at that price.
Been using it for a few days now and I'm well pleased with it.
Got a couple of giffgaff sims in it on pay as you go. I don't make phone calls (I'm deaf) so paying out a tenner every month on my old Sammy with an O2 package seemed a bit daft for a few texts and a few meg of data.
Win Win as far as I am concerned.

I bought one of these 3 weeks ago to replace my old iphone. I'm very happy with it for the money except that the manual is useless. Nearly all of the problems I have had with it relate to it being Android, which I'm not used to and having to fiddle for ages to work out how to do anything. plusses, sim free, unlocked and dual sim, cheap and easily returnable if faulty (remember that unlocking may be cheap but can invalidate warranties) minuses, takes ages to charge, screen not a patch even on the iphone4.

I bought the Medion E5005 from Aldi.
I was having difficulty in accessing the call log.
When I contacted Median their advisor was unable to help and said he would get someone to phone me back within 48 hours. That was a week ago and I'm still waiting.
Meanwhile I have played around with the phone and found how to access the call log.
The manual is silent on this and the Median customer services worthless.

Hi, Can anyone tell me how to connect to the internet with E5005? I keep getting a network error or when I try to connect via my home broadband there is an authentication error message. I am sure it is something simple. I have a pay as you go Vodaphone sim card and the home internet service is by Orange and I have a Brightbox router. Hope one of you tech people can assist. My children have smartphones and connect to broadband when home but they are abroad!

Are you sure you're putting the correct details in?
I'd click 'forget network' and re-enter the wifi password in again very carefully.
If that still doesn't work maybe disable the password on your router so it's unsecured and see whether you can get on. It may be an issue with your phone if you're unable to join an unsecured network.
Good luck!

There's probably loads of different methods e.g. Installing a contacts backup app on your windows phone, backing up as a file, installing same contacts backup file on Android and restoring your data.
Here's a proven method though: https://www.recovery-android.com/winphone-to-android/transfer-contacts.html

I bought one of these a few days ago.. I submitted an honest review on the Aldi review page saying it was ok as a phone but it doesnt like doing more than one thing at once, and even that was at snails pace. Press an icon and literally nothing happens for a good 5 seconds. Videos are jerky or just freezes the phone. I only paid £35 for it from Aldi and said its not worth anymore than that. They moderated my review and said they couldnt publish it which annoyed me somewhat.

I do not have anything against Medion, just think 1 GB RAM, 16 ROM and 5 MP camera is not enough to move from my actual smartphone, I assume it's a good deal and value for money. It could be a good option, but depending on what you want to get from it. For this money I would buy any old cheap Motorola.

Well, experts, the fluctuating reviews would have put me off, so I am glad I bought on my own personal view of it in store. I checked the spec and weighed it up with the price and I'm chuffed.
The phone gives a more 'airy' feeling when I use it, same number of apps as on my previous HTC 626, yet nowhere near as sluggish. The spiel states 16gb internal memory, upgradable to 32gb with additional 16gb card. I put my 64gb data card, with 42gb of MP3's and files, in and the phones has no issues reading it all, so mega-chuffed. I use Power Amp audio app, have done on 4 previous phones, and this phone has the best output of them all (using AKG 451 headphones each time) with the lowest volume level (and therefore lowest battery usage too) of any of them.
Reember when phone would save battery power by being able to be switched off when you're asleep and still wake you up with an alarm? Guess what - it's here. A pretty snazzy leather feel rear cover is a very nice touch. The only issue I have found is the keyboard is a little basic for my usual needs, but there are so many nice keyboards available from the App store, it won't be hard to find one that suits, if if indeed you feel the need.
So, am I convert - yep, but I cannot say that everyone needs one, my reason for having a mobile is not the next person's, necessarily, but for less than half the price of others I have had with as good performance, I must say it's better value for the bucks (£69.99 actually).
