Can't agree with that I'm afraid. If you have Amazon Prime and Netflix subscriptions, this is a fantastic device for accessing them. I've installed Kodi on the two sticks I have and it runs flawlessly, streaming movies from my NAS as well as accessing ahmm..those streams :-)
Just make sure you use the HDMI extension cable as the WiFi antenna on these is quite poor and being located at the back of the TV results in a poor connection if your TV isn't in the same room as the router.
I had a couple of Chromecasts before these, they're now gathering dust as a standalone solution works so much better at least for me.

Have got Kodi running on it? I managed to get one for £9.99 from amazon about a month ago (new customer prime deal plus £10 off audible)
I followed a guide on youtube on how to install which took around 20 minutes. I now can stream all the latest boxsets, movies and sport.
Although, I'm yet to find a really decent link for sport, the quality isn't great and lags a bit despite running 68 down / 18 up speeds on my internet (my router is about 3m away in the same room)

Gave up on mine, daughter was using it to watch youtube but it kept hanging, went back to the chromecast in the end

You probably have a poor WiFi signal to it. Try using the HDMI extension and locating the Fire Stick away from the back of the TV. I also had some buffering issues as my TV isn't in the same room as the router, using the HDMI extension resolved these.

same here. very frustrating..it was next to the wireless router aswell so couldnt get a better signal. went for a hardwired android box instead what a difference being hardwired makes!

you couldnt go wrong with this little thing and for the price.better than some other android boxes out there.just have it close to your wifi router

You need a really good wifi connection for these, consider this if placing a distance from your router. When it works it's a cracking gadget.
Good price. Heat.

To use it for what it is designed for, it works fine. If you install Kodi on it, it will generally work OK but may occasionally get hot and lock up or start to lag. The Amazon fire TV box is a much better unit for use with Kodi but is more expensive.

Cheers! I've tried using apps like Sports Devil, Pheonix Sports plus a few others and either the links are not working or it's a poor quality. I shouldn't complain to be honest. For £10, it's saved me ££££'s
You literally cannot go wrong. Even at £30/35, they're an absolute steal!!!!

These things are slow and laggy, amazons interface makes this worse as well but it does generally work even if it's frustrating. I eventually replaced mine with a Chromecast and never looked back.

Thanks, but there's about 5cm between the router and the fire stick, and nothing else has trouble with the wifi.
It's BT so reliable
I did wonder if there's firmware which needs updating but I've been assuming that that auto updates.
Oh, and it's totally vanilla, it doesn't have Kodi or anything else on it

Bought one of these to use when travelling, great bit of kit. ChromeCast hasn't had a look in since I got this. Use for Netflix, Amazon, Kodi & streams. Works a treat.

Hi all
Does anyone use a VPN when accessing certain Kodi *ahem* features?

Hmm could be congestion on the wifi channel your router is broadcasting in. Try using an app like WiFi Analyser on Android, you can see what the congested channels in your home are and switch the router to a relatively congestion-free channel. Then factory reset the Fire Stick and try using the 5G band over the 2G, usually less congested (if your router supports it).
got one there good got kodi running a great build ingot of a well know youtube blogger

Why does the app store auto shuts on my fire tv? Won't let me install iplayers. The Amazon cs says maybe because of kodi.
Anyone else experienced this with your Amazon app store?

if you have a smart tv with iplayer and netflix apps on them, does this add any value? also for kodi, can the stick detect 5g? I guess it will be useful if it does as a lot of droid boxes pick 2g

Same setup as mine, I've given up on the streams, they take so long to load and I'm yet to find a lag free stream.
