Use Johnstones paint over Dulux or Crown! I personally think it's much better; it's cheaper, covers better and seems to last longer too. No brainer if you ask me! Johnstones have some lovely colours, and my house is slowly becoming full of them! :wink:

Our builders used Glidden (now rebranded Armstead, part of ICI). It's 'White' and not a stark 'Brilliant White', works better for a softer finish on older properties.

Hope someone can give valuable advice. I am just going to start painting the whole house. I need matt white emulsion paint. Of the three companies mentioned which is the best to go for in terms of quality and price. Dulux trade £40 for 10litres b&q, Leyland contract 3 10l tubs for £40 at b&q on offer, Johnstones contract 10l for £15.
I am leaning between johnstones and Leyland as everyone gives them excellent reviews.

Wilkinsons is a close second for me - Johnstones is by far the best I've personally used. Wilkos do a fantastic paint for kitchens/bathrooms, however! Cost £5 for a 2.5L tin when I bought mine a year ago, but it was reduced to clear or something! Amazing paint and great coverage! Also heard Leyland is good but never personally used it - Johnstones have a fantastic mix of colours and different types, I'm their biggest fan!

Dulux endurance is excellent, but a darn sight more than £10!

I concur with most people here. I have just done my hallway with this exact paint ( bought at the same price in wilkos). really thin and watery. it did the job, but needed 4 coats to cover already pale walls.

This stuff is so weak, You need to buy the Dulux Trade, much better coverage but more expensive, You might as well buy the Leyland contract paint,its the same and cheaper

Stick to Dulux Trade paint if you want a better quality Dulux paint

dulux retail stuff is not what it used to be especially with whites. dulux trade is still good. but then again all trade variants of big brands are. Most people think trade stuff is cheap but it's the opposite. more expensive than retail but the difference is the paint's cover better meaning less labour time.

My builder has recommended using Eclipse by MacPherson. Any thoughts, good paint?

Excellent price for a very good brand but I have used this many times and have noticed the last few times the brilliant white is more brilliant off white grey, I bought the Dulux white soft sheen and the difference in colour is very noticeable if your like me when you buy brilliant white that's what you expect ,so it makes you wonder if that's why this is so cheap for 5l tin that's always on offer at £10.00 .
