They've all been sold off to Chinese/ Turkish/ Slovakian brands, the previous owners would have purchased their yachts with the proceeds, and half the poor sods who worked at these factories are now on benefits.
What a sorry saga, the tale of British manufacturing .

I'm gogin back 30 years here now, and never has Goodmans or Bush been considered a good brand!, Hitachi were more of industrial type stuff and Grundig ive never really heard of until more recently.
Good Audio has always been the same, the more well known brands of Yamaha & Sony were the most popular, in the 90's its was Techniques and Kenwood.

Why bother. It's got to be dogseggs for that sort of money and 20W. Just blutack a couple of polystyrene cups to your TV speakers, probably get same benefit

Once upon a time, many years ago, Goodmans speakers were amongst the very best available. And Bush, Hitachi and Grundig were also top brands. How things change.......

I think there's a 40w sound bar in stores at £39. The one here is 20w.
I've been in my nearest store a few times over the past while and I've never seen the 20w one ever.

I got one of these from a tesco eBay deal for £17 a few weeks ago. I was happy with it at that price.. £10 is a bargain. Perfectly fine for linking to ipad/phone to play music in kitchen/bedroom.

Id argue the sound quality of your TV is on par if not better than this soundbar.
Quite possibly the most pointless buy of the year.

Might give it a go, though it may look a bit odd overhanging the sides of the 32" TV unit.
Also, I've kind of got used to the horrible TV audio of the "no visible speakers" setup, though it was a massive downward step from the previous TV that had them in a few inch lower rim, that and a bit of adjustment.
And yes, Goodmans of old, got a pair of Active 25 PC speakers that do far better than their tiny size would suggest - needed a pair for testing something and they were 4 or 5 quid from a charity shop, and I picked them as probably the best out of 3 different sets they had.

You need to go back a little further, I'm afraid - try looking at the period before the Japanese took over. There was a time, long ago, back in the 60s when British HiFi equipment was the best in the world - you wouldn't have touched anything Japanese with a bargepole. Even in the 70s Goodmans speakers were amongst the best you could get.

Are you not thinking of Wharfedale? Now they were good, way back when, but they sold out to some cheap brand and became as terrible as the Alba/Goodmans/Matsui's of the world.

Modern Wharfedale speakers are shocking.....the brand as such no longer exists....it's like Goodmans, Alba etc....they now put the name on any mass produced generic Chinese electronics......

I've got a Goodmans 40" soundbar and it's smashing.
No complaints whatsoever
I think you'll find those who criticise don't have one and never have (although they'll claim they have)
