I don't mean that in a Macs are terrible way, but the current range is nearly all dated.
Save your money and wait for the new wave of updates.

Spot on unless you're going to buy the new Macbook. I'm waiting for a Macbook Pro to replace my MBA 11 and MBP 2012 none retina (but fully upgraded).....the wait continues....

Came here to say exactly this
Don't even consider buying a new Mac now, sit on your money and wait until the updated models finally are released http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac

"Save money you say" - It's twice the price.

Also the reason for this deal! Even if you don't want the new versions you'd be better off waiting as it will drive down the price on all the other lines....hence this deal as everyone is waiting!

It's debatable what will be released, though. The Mac Mini and Mac Pro seem officially dead, the MacBook Air has a terrible screen for the price and only the MacBook Pro is definitely getting an update next month.
I wouldn't be surprised if Apple kill the MB Air and the Mac Mini (possibly even the Mac Pro, given the Thunderbolt Display is gone), leaving a range like this:
DESKTOPS
iMac (the 5k models become the 'Pro' Macs)
LAPTOPS
MacBook
MacBook Pro (all retina-based)
Apple's focus is very much on mobile devices now.

Yes. but if you are a music student, you can't really use a mobile device to write songs and what nots.

Even the Apple forums are full of members frustrated by the aging product line and now laughably poor specs.
