GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme edition- the most high end zotac model for £575 which looks like an utter bargain (for a gtx 1080!) considering the overclockers UK are selling for £655
Though there is no clear mention of amp! extreme on the amazon page the pictures are for the card and model number listed corresponds with the amp! extreme model on Zotac's website.

It is totally variable depending on who you get- had one say they may never get it it which is ridiculous as they have never had it in stock to start with, one saying end of July, one end of august and a few who could not give me an estimate. Thinking about this comment further. Would you actually pay £440 quid even if it *did* sometimes trade blows with the 1080, but then sometimes traded blows with the 970? The 1080 is not £300 more, you can pick one up for £575 right now, and that's in super low supply.
Not to mention, double the power supply, twice the headache of crossfire, just for one game?
no..i can't see the £300+ 1060 being as powerful as the 2x (£149) RX 480 cards that are close to the power of 1x 1080...

I can't comment on Crossfire but I've been pretty happy with SLI support tbh. I went from two 980s in SLI to two 1080s in SLI on that basis. NVIDIA seem pretty good in general with driver updates for game launches so really I've only had a 'wait' once in a while for the games I've played. Power is down from the previous cards and I've water-cooled for years to solve heat and noise issues. Have to say I thought the 1080 was pretty quiet though (on air).

HEat and power are of no interest to most of us who already build around this and due to 1x rx 480 being £125 for me (ex-vat) and being more powerful than the GTX 970, 2X 480 for under £250 is fine. I can't see the 1060 being as good since the 1080 is barely surpassing this build and Nvidia will probably hit the market with the 1060 at over £200. IF they go £150 like AMD, I'll be shocked but still wait for benchmarks.

Reviews I've seen have the single GTX 1080 ahead in most game benchmarks.
Also, the GTX 1060 is due for release in a few days, leaks suggest GTX 980 performance at a very similar price to the RX480.
Still, a single powerful card is ALWAYS better than 2 weaker cards, as not only are you relying on good crossfire/SLI support, you also have higher power consumption, more heat and more noise with multiple cards.

It's not way cheaper than the 970, just this week the 970 was going for 179.00 while the 480 was going for 173.99.
The 1070 is double the card a 480 is, I wouldn't suggest double 480s to anyone.
It's a joke that the 480 can *only* be compared to last gen's mid range card, that says a ton.

t3hfunk3r
4 Jul 16#43
Don't doubt it. As I said the quick of mind can processor frame rate changes to around 150 fps. Beyond that and it's largely pointless unless your seeking to up the average fps.
I used to play quake 3 semi competitively; I used to remove all candy and tweak the configuration to minimise what was being drawn so as to enable me to identify moving characters from static objects. The fps average with the configuration file using the q3 benchmark hit over 300 fps - largely thanks to the **** graphics configuration.
When you're getting up to around the +100 fps mark other things start to take over importance more than an increase in the frame rate. Latency of the display screen, mouse, keyboard are all more important.
Got my 1080 the other day and I really love it. Every game now ultra settings by default. Battlefront and Doom look particularly great.
kingpiinx
4 Jul 16#39
Not really. It trades blows with the range of cards from the GTX 970 - GTX 1080 and faster on some tests but it doesn't always take advantage from games yet. For me, RX 480 is way cheaper than the GTX 970 that it beats for a single card otherwise, if the 1070 was £220 as expected instead of over £350 (UK rip off) I'd go with that.
Ignoring the weights, the product dimensions on the extreme link clearly show a card thats longer, wider, and thicker :O

Not this again! Every time a monitor comes out with a higher refresh rate, someone picks an arbitrary number that humans apparently cannot see beyond. If you've not yet tried high framerate gaming.. give it a try! You'd be amazed the difference you can easily perceive from 60 to 100, and from 100 to 144.

The Amazon page states ZT-P10800B-10P as the model, which is the AMP Extreme.
I'll be annoyed if I don't get the AMP Extreme.
Regarding delivery, Amazon just told me:
"I am unsure of a date to advise really, however I do see that we have a high enough demand for the item, therefore it should be back in stock soon.
I would rather not provide any false information, and as I cannot determine a date for the item to be available, I can only estimate that it should be back in stock by the middle of July.
Just to advise, it very well may be possible that this item may not be back in stock until the beginning of August.
I say this as I am not sure what date we ran out of stock.
If you feel by the middle of July that the order is taking too long, you do have every right to cancel it, and you can do so yourself or by contacting Amazon."

They human eye and brain can only process to distinction a maximum of around ~115 fps so beyond that (120hz) every frame drawn is a frame wasted (some say it's 150fps but when I went to uni they said 115). I get the more frames the higher the average but honestly, anyone that needs that high a Base for gaming is probably doing competitions and if they are they shouldn't be playing with eye candy on; far easier to hit a high Base clock and make distinction in objects by turning off the fx and playing with essentially block and colour seperation. Any old 7950 or 780ti can do this.

3 Jul 161#18

Ultra settings at 1440p on a 120/144/165Hz monitor needs really quick pixel processing. There's rarely ever a single GPU setup even at launch that isn't needed for this sort of combo.

If you have a lower budget it's much better to get the Zotac GTX 1070 Amp Extreme 8GB card @ £389 and OC it rather than 2x RX 480 4GB reference cards for £348 and end up with crossfire headaches.
Two 480s are not faster than a single GTX 1080. They are not even faster than a single 1070 in a lot of situations, You can read further @ http://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/2016/07/amd-rx-480-crossfire-vs-nvidia-gtx-1080-ashes/
It was an equivalent of a click bait when they said it on stage, if you look closer all they really ment is that in this one scenario, using these particular settings, in this one game two 480s 8GB and overclocked can perform better than a single 1080. Single game.

It's £655 on Overclockers UK!
1 x Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 AMP Graphics Card

Dual 6-Pin to 4x2-Pin Power Cable
It does not say 1 x Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 AMP Extreme Graphics Card
Amazon have mixed up the descriptions, part numbers, pictures and prices on the Zotac 1080 & 1070. I have ordered what I think is a 1070 Extreme but I'm not convinced I will get the extreme version. I will return it if it is the wrong version.
I'm looking for the 8gb 480 so will have to keep hunting. That's a great price for a 4gb though.

It was an equivalent of a click bait when they said it on stage, if you look closer all they really ment is that in this one scenario, using these particular settings, in this one game two 480s 8GB and overclocked can perform better than a single 1080. Single game.
Also the 2 mid range cards over 1 high end card is nothing new. Same stuff every release but I'd rather eat my foot than use two GPUs.

A single GPU is ALWAYS better than two for games.
