was in my local B&Q (netherfield, nottingham) last night getting myself one of the cheap dewalt drill kits and noticed pretty much all the barbecue kit was marked down as clearance. i grabbed myself one of the weber chimney starters for £12.07, as they are infinitely better quality than the £5 argos ones doing the rounds
checked this morning, and the price is on the website, so i'm guessing barbecue stuff is now clearance in all stores? i'm holding out for a cheap(er) big green egg or similar kamado cooker though, so b&q didnt have anything else for me. but YMMV
they are still £17-20 everywhere else (amazon, argos, etc)

Definitely worth the money at £10.
I can't vouch for the cheaper homebase or Argos versions, but I bought my Weber starter 12 years ago, and it's still going strong

I've got one of these and paid full price for it....wouldn't be without one now.
Once you've got your barby fired up, how about some of this to give your food a bit of extra flavour ?

put some vegetable/cooking oil in a little spray bottle and give the newspaper a couple of squirts before scrunching up for even better results getting it started

Bought Weber chimney starter 12 years ago.
Used almost every weekend during summer and autumn since. Left it out in the rain a fair few times.
Picked up another one in a sale for £5 a few years ago, but haven't opened it yet as the old one is still going strong! [email protected] said, these take the hassle out of getting the BBQ started.
Don't need those solid fire lighter cubes. Just a few sheets of newspapers and that's it.

lol I have 3 older children who have children of their own and my youngest grandchild is 9 and my starter goes round the family so ill leave it up to you to guess how much use it gets, speak as you find but there again I aint an expert lmao looks like you had a bit of bad luck there, but my fiver has worked well everybody has their own opinion and experience don't take it personally

I have a cheap one and it has lasted a few years with light/medium use but not only are all the cheap ones I've seen far smaller than this Weber, I'm also concerned that it will break on me at the hot coal pouring stage which could be pretty nasty. I've not been able to fault the quality of any of my previous Weber purchases so at this price I couldn't say no.

I bought the cheap £5 version 4 years ago and hubby still using it no probs at all and will be using again 2moro so don't agree with the build quality experts sorry. Pays your money and takes your chance 4 years and counting for my £5

Great find. Been looking for one for ages but gave up trying to find a deal (as said before, plenty going cheaper but quality is poor) so ended up paying nearly full price at the start of the summer.

I have a 10" pizza stone for my Weber Q120 (gas) that's not too bad but recently bought one of these that sits nicely on my Weber 57 Kettle.Only used it once so far and still on the learning curve but judging by my first effort I think it could be a very good purchase. Keep your eye out for Groupon offers as I paid 40 quid delivered.
Im thinking a prebuilt top off ebay is the way forward...

Thats fair enough.
Im just trying out a pizza stone a weber Q - waiting for it to warm up. Would also love a pizza oven.
Even got as far as buying the materials for the base, but the actual oven was a bit daunting!

Im wanting someyhing i can cook pizza on well rather than a smoker. Its either a kamado, or building a pizza oven, and im lazy and an incompetent DIYer

And if anybody is questioning whether they actually need this, the short answer is yes! It removes any hassle in lighting a BBQ and I for one wouldn't consider wasting my time trying.

Bargain I paid 23 quid from John Lewis for the starter set. Mind you I've only got it for a little portable BBQ

Any reason?
If you want to smoke, then maybe look at a Traeger or Bradley.
You could always build your own Kamado or an UDS

Just bought the last one from the Leatherhead store. They do have a load that come with 2kg charcoal and firelighters but they wanted about £18 for that package.

totally, my £5 homebase one was knackered after one summer... these weber ones last considerably longer. the build quality is just *so* much better
