TP-Link US are currently offering a buy-back program with a bunch of their AV500 products due to widespread problems and threats of class action lawsuit. Full refund no matter how old.
They're not offering it in the UK despite the products being more or less identical apart from voltage. They're also trying to keep it quiet so UK customers don't get ****.
Bear that in mind when buying one of their AV500 products. Looks like a lot of stores are offloading their stock. I am sure there are plenty of satisfied owners but they would not offer a buy-back unless they had identified some fundamental problem in the chipset or design. http://www.tp-link.us/claim/

Are these compatible with other existing home plugs? So increase the number of Internet plug sockets by 2. Are there any wifi versions that extend the range also compatible with existing homeplugs ?

Don't know if these are compatible (probably not) but these will probably do the trick
When it works, it's great when it works, but capping out at 70/80 download speed, should be 150+ with Virgin. And just not reconnecting after turning my machine on and off.
Maybe it's my homes electrics but it's by no means 100% working all of the time.

Unless I'm mistaken you won't get higher than 125MB/s transfer speeds around a Gigabit home network (using cat 5e/cat 6 cables).
eg. if you're trying to copy files from your NAS box to your PC
in terms of broadband/internet download speeds - Virgin offer 200Mbps, which is 25MB/s (8Mbps = 1 MB/s)
