Copy & Paste:
In This War Of Mine you do not play as an elite soldier, rather a group of civilians trying to survive in a besieged city; struggling with lack of food, medicine and constant danger from snipers and hostile scavengers. The game provides an experience of war seen from an entirely new angle.
The pace of This War of Mine is imposed by the day and night cycle. During the day snipers outside stop you from leaving your refuge, so you need to focus on maintaining your hideout: crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors. At night, take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge through a set of unique locations for items that will help you stay alive.
Make life-and-death decisions driven by your conscience. Try to protect everybody from your shelter or sacrifice some of them for longer-term survival. During war, there are no good or bad decisions; there is only survival. The sooner you realize that, the better.

This is one of the best games I've played in recent years but it can be incredibly frustrating.
I purchased this during one of the many Steam sales years ago and finally got around to playing it fairly recently. The premise is great. I don't think it's ever been done before, but you will slowly find yourself banging your head against the wall, due to how difficult the game can be. It can take a very long time to stock up provisions, alongside materials needed to further yourself in the game. Unless your character is 'tooled up' when raiding places (not so much the early ones) you'll find your characters will slowly start to die off from wounds, or death.
The trading system seems a little off key. Every now and again, someone will come and offer you trades for any items you may have. The thing is, items are so scarce as it is, you can't really afford to barter with them, unless of course it's meds (which will always carry a premium). The trader pretty much wanted everything I owned for 1 med pack, so I told him to do one and let my guy suffer for a week before he died. Recent raids were incredibly difficult at this point in the game. It was either get the low end items such as wood, or parts and fill up the tiny backpack, or engage in combat (again) to get the much needed med pack lying in a room surrounded by 3 guards.
If you're up for a challenge this game is definately it. Some find it easy, some don't. I played all my games on normal mode, but it drove me into despair so many times, I uninstalled it last month. I may give it another shot. It's still lying in wait among my other 6 million games I haven't had time to play, but I would highly recommend it. At just over £3 for the game, it's a steal. It's pretty much what I paid for it, and you will be thankful. When I had a huge chunck of free time available to me last month, I was on this for 12 hrs of the day. It can and will suck you in.
Go for it, for those who haven't tried it yet.
