But the point is it's £279.. Of course a 65 inch samsung 4k 3d tv is going to blow this away but it also isn't going to be anywhere close to £279.. So irrelevant. This is good tv for the price

Yeah a Samsung or LG 65 incher would cost well above 1000 quid. I suspect there are at least a few people reading these forums who like the idea of a large screen TV but cannot spare that kind of money for the privilege.
It would be nice if all of us could drive Ferraris or Teslas, but most make do with Fords or Vauxhalls BECAUSE THEY GET YOU FROM POINT A TO POINT B.
But one does come across the odd comment on the internet that a Ferrari drives far nicer than a Vauxhall.

Yeah don't buy a TV for its 'smartness'. Very few manufacturers keep up with API updates from app owners so within a few years your smart TV becomes a proper dumb TV. Pick up a cheap Chromecast, FireStick or one of those cheapo Android boxes doing the rounds on here (though no Netflix HD on any of those) and you'll have much better support for a few more years. Once they stop being supported, just pick up a newer box for another 30 quid.

First, is Techwood. I'm not even looking at anything other than Samsung or LG these days.
Second, is 55". TVs of today should be 65".
Third, is not 4K. Why bother buying a 2-generations old TV?
Fourth, is not 3D. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I love my 3D movies.
So NO.

If only I had my mancave built, I might have grabbed this, no interest in 3D nor 4K at the mo, if a 4K Coke around cheap enough with no issues then I might bite and stick my Sony 55w829 in the cave until then I'll keep an eye out for a cheapo like this once it's built! Heat

Last year? That would be 1 generation old TV.
And yes, they were doing active 3D (the expensive one, where the goggles go over £100) while LG are still now doing the inexpensive 3D (the one that works with the goggles you get in the cinema). So you're right, either a 65" 3D Samsung/LG from last year or a 65" LG from this year will do nicely. Much more nicely that this rubbish.

Not everyone wants or needs a Samsung/LG 65" 4K 3D TV - 55" is plenty big enough for my room, hardly any programmes are in 4K anyway and 3D is dying a death.

Why does 4K TV matter most people don't have access to any 4K source material to make use of it, Thats like buying a top of the range Blue Ray player and only playing CD's on it.

Totally agree not every room has space even for a 55', I know when I was growing up most bedrooms that had TV's (which was rich people only) they were 14' and in living room if you had bigger than a 26' you were rich. Not everyone needs or wants TV's that big.

It's a nice television, hooked up to my laptop, plays HD movies with a clear a crisp picture, SD can be a little fuzzy at times, however after messing with the settings on the picture menu, you can drastically improve the picture for SD and HD. Sound is not amazing but most tvs these days are not great but the bluetooth connection to my sound bar is great and has not missed a beat.
I will admit the smart features are not the best, but a 55 inch smart tv £279 is a bargain... For those who want a better experience buy a cheap android box off ali-express £15.31 with kodi loaded and android 4.4 full smart tv that can be easily updated and gives you netflix, kodi and everything else you need or buy one off ebay.
I ordered this TV last night at 11pm, i had the TV by 7.30 this morning, even had a call from AO to check all was ok with the purchase. Cant fault them, the service or the price.
If you are after a new decent big TV, and don't mind spending £15-30 on an android box for a better (smart) experience or do not want to pay £700 for a TV then this is for you.

A 1080p TV with Freeview HD will serve you well for many years. The only issue with this TV is whether the picture quality is decent enough. 4K resolution is only needed for large TVs, as you'll be unlikely to be sitting close enough to them to benefit.

I took delivery of mine yesterday and I'm pretty happy with it so far. Delivery was fast and you could follow where the driver was in real-time via the AO website, which really helps.
My thoughts so far:
- Excellent value for money.
- The box is large as you might expect, but not heavy - I could easily lift it and I'm not particularly big.
- Picture quality is as good as my previous 32" LG LCD TV which cost more even when ex-display several years ago.
- Seems to have 5Ghz 802.11ac wifi capability!
- Smart TV functions like iPlayer and Youtube work very well, but the smart TV interface itself isn't that pretty. There are Youtube and Netflix buttons on the remote so you can go directly to those apps, and you may be able to assign a button for other services like iPlayer.
- Like all big TVs, it will be unforgiving if the source is poor quality and you're sitting close. A high bit-rate Blu-ray disc looks amazing (although be sure to turn off TV noise reduction on that source to increase detail), but low bit-rate sources like many SD channels and even some Freeview HD channels sadly, show their weaknesses. This isn't the TV's fault. For example, flicking through the channels to the Dangermouse cartoon in SD, showed few compression artifacts and looked fine. So I would expect DVDs not to look too bad, especially if your DVD player upscales well.
- CEC functions work well, and you have the option to turn them off.
- Haven't had the chance to examine black levels that thoroughly yet, but seem as good or better than my LG LCD TV.
- Yes, sound is poor, but I already have a surround sound system so it doesn't matter to me. Even a soundbar will beat most TVs as their thin cases can't house big enough speakers, so price one of those in if you need to.
- No doubt more expensive branded TVs will perform better, but how much improvement will you get for double the price? This will do for me until 65" 4K TVs, and OLED panels become cheaper.
