Couldn't agree more really. I believe Sony set up the UHD Alliance, then decided not to use their standard for any of their own TVs?!
I do think all of them are being purposefully evasive to make TV's nearly impossible to compare. All that measurements that matter, like bits, nits, hz etc are almost impossible to come by.
I don't give a stuff about motion rates or software bodging, I will just turn it all off as soon as I get it home anyway. Nor do I give a stuff about PQI, your made up over all rating which is designed to obscure what the TV actually is! I want to rate the TV myself, not use some system the manufacturer as devised that doesn't mean anything.
It's so bad, just by looking at the numbers it's very hard to tell a £500 TV and a £1000 TV apart. If they don't tell you what the difference is, what's the incentive to buy the more expensive one?
Can you imagine if they did with this computers or phones? Refused to tell you the spec of what you were actually buying? It would be chaos.
It just feels like the worst possible time to buy a TV. My feeling is if you don't have to, don't. If my Sony hadn't failed at the grand old age of 4 years, I certainly wouldn't be looking now.

Latest software update will give it HDR compliancy but the brightness value is about 250 nits whereas full-blown HDR is around 1000 nits. HDR Blurays still look awesome on this though with HDR Mode engaged (although you still need to adjust the settings for your room). I personally have the 65" 8509 coupled with a Samsung K8500 4K Bluray player. The TV is superb and although it is a 2015 model it is hopefully getting Marshmallow at some point this year.

Here's my review got this model a few months months ago. Display is fantastic in 4k and that's about it. Very slow especially if your using the you view scheduler. Android OS is well aweful. Cannot pause live TV. Recording programmes is a faff. You have to disable youview to do so. Omg it ways a ton. Sound actually isn't too bad. Could have been a awesome product but comes up well sort. Save a little more money and get a Samsung especially if you have already owned one.

I've had 3d issues with this set although the picture quality is superb. I purchased 3d glasses from amazon but experience ghosting and double imaging on all 3d movies. The original Sony 3d glasses are too expensive priced at £ 50.00 each and I needed 4. Has anybody experienced these problems or there is a problem in my set which was bought from JL 7 months back @899 ?
zackariah to Mjm9691
14 Jul 161#109
I've tried a few:
Sony TDG-BT400A - the Sony glasses work best with litte ghosting (as far as I was concerned) but as you say they are expensive(I got them from ebay for a lot less than 50 each) I also didnt like the fact they use batteries ,
samsung ssg-5100gb glasses - cheaper baterry operated samsung glasses that work ok they have a bit more ghosting than the Sonys and rather flimsy
Samsung 3D active Glasses SSG-3570 - Older usb rechargable glasses a bit more rigid than the others and not as flexible (a bit of ghosting)
Samsung ssg-3300gr - Best of the lot for me a bit more than the flexible ssg-3570, recharable and the price was alot better than the Sony (a bit of ghosting as well).
The above is just my opinion others may disagree

From what I read, to get the best out of HDR, the tv needs to have local dimming zones (the more the better) and also be a full array panel (not edge lit). This set doesnt have either, and some of the 2016 ranges probably wont either... you will pay a lot more for a full array as well.
I bought this set last year, but sent it back after 3 months. Whilst the pic quality is great, the platform drove me nuts, with frequest reboots, and crashes. Whilst 4k looked great, I just got bored of watching 4k demo's - theres not enough content to warrant owning a 4k set yet. Also, 1080p content just looked awful, far worse than on a 1080p tv, due to the processing required to make up the missing resoltuion. I spent half the 1k I paid on a good 1080p set and the pic qualtiy was better than the upscaled image this set produced.

I have this TV and it's fantastic. Many of the negative reviews relate to the earlier firmware versions which were buggy and probably not fit for release. It's much more stable now and gives you access to loads of apps including kodi.

Any thoughts on this: Panasonic TX-58DX902B 58-inch 4K 3D LED TV
I have this TV. My gripes with it are the slow (at times very slow) Android interface and lack of being able to record TV. They are apparently adding this in an update but geez this is a year old TV already and still lacking features! For some reason also it turns on my sound bar when I turn the TV on but after 10 seconds turns it off again. It shouldn't be compatibility... its a Sony soundbar.
Great TV but Sony is disappointing with their lack of support for customers who are willing to pay a premium. I don't know what they are doing to make Android so slow but it should be nice and fast.

As I said before, as this tv is coming up regularly now and getting cheaper, had it for a while but was not impressed at all- sent it back. Sitting next to my old 40" Sony (not even LED) and positioning the 40" forward to give same viewing experience- my old one looked just as good. When used on non HD channels on freeview the 40" was much better. At the time I purchased it (£999) I did loads of researching, reviews, set it up as per the experts, but in the end when compared with my existing one and ignoring how better technically it was supposed to be apart from size it just didn't look any better. Sorry to those who are very happy with their TV but I'm still waiting to see how things pan out.

I can't understand what good having HDR is on a non-10 bit panel is even, it just doesn't really make sense. You might get slightly improved detail, but surely it can't be anything like proper HDR?
Been looking at TVs for two weeks now, getting really naffed of they are going to such great lengths to hide what it is they are really selling. Getting the actual specs of these panels is getting ridiculous. Even really basic things, like non-software enhanced refresh rates.

I'm like you. I've been getting really **** over the past few weeks, ranting at pretty much anyone I can find to listen.
It's like they all got together, ratified the UHD Premium spec, and then all agreed to obfuscate their specs and the label "HDR" so they could con people into buying tech they weren't really getting.
The fact they all use different stamps to signify a particular TV meets the spec is **** too. If they've all agreed the spec why not just have one industry wide label? Because that makes it easy to identify the models that don't meet it, that's why. ****, the lot of em.

Had this TV for over a year now and it's had quite a few issues in that time...lip sync issues on YouTube, laggy remote, rebooting for some unknown reason. It had a lot more issues when I first bought it but Sony updates ironed out the problems. With the new Sony models coming out soon I reckon this particular model will get left behind and they'll stop putting out updates. You only have to look at the Sony Forums on these TV's, people are going berserk. It is a cracking TV though apart from the problems that I've stated.

14 Jul 161#46
I really wish I had an answer to that question for you. I hoping this might somehow be viable as I hadn't previously been able to find out anything about whether it was 10 or 8 bit.
I've been trawling through Samsungs today. The slightly older ones Samsung seem to have removed the specs of completely from their website, all I can find is user manuals. The medium aged ones have the spec listed and none of them are 10 bit in this price range. The newest ones don't state how many bits at all!!
I feel like I'm going round in circles and getting nowhere. I'm contemplating buying a cheaper monitor for gaming on and suffering while I wait it out and TV's sort themselves out. It just feels terrible to think about investing the best part of thousand pounds in something I won't be happy with or will be superseded so soon.
I know what I truly want is an Ultra HD Premium TV, but they are just out of my budget. The cheapest I have seen is £1200 I think. I've been trying to figure out at what time of year new TVs come onto the market, but I haven't even managed that. I feel like the next gen on from this lot surely have to have this all sorted out? The new xbox will be supporting HDR and I am strongly guess the new PlayStation will because Polaris chips do.
I'm really sorry for the slight rant there and I truly do wish I could be more helpful. If I find anything spectacular I will be sure to post back here.

One of the two remotes supplied has a dedicated Netflix button. There is also a fairly intuitive touch pad remote that ships as standard.
I've had this TV for a few weeks now and have to say I'm impressed. To date I've managed to side load Mobdro and Showbox, (although showbox stopped working after the last revision) using ES file explorer. (Installed out of curiousity, not coz I use them)
The TV ships with Kodi installed by default (at least mine did?) and that's pretty okay for streaming my movie library (you can do illegal stuff with it as well, if you need / want to) it has built in Chromecast-like facility and in general picture quality is excellent.
It streams UHD using AmazonTV in mind blowing quality. (Better caul Saul is available in UHD) so watched it all again with dropped jaw!
I would highly recommend this TV at this price, however, I paid £769 for mine from Richer sounds with six year warranty in their recent offer. They knocked a few quid off because I also added an A/V receiver into the mix, so there are deals to be had if you shop around.l

Is this the same to or is it different?
Would much prefer to have my warranty direct with the retailer and not the manufacturer.

Nevermind, Google prevails... https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/how-tos-faqs-tvs-home-cinema/android-tv-usb-hdd-recording/ba-p/2152598
Now I need to go buy a new USB HDD.
Thanks
I then got a joiner to fit a kitchen worktop to the top to finish it off.
I just want a decent 49-55" for under £800!
The picture is fantastic. The sound is in line with every other TV of this type (I went for B&W speakers) and it looks great wall mounted.
Voted hot

None the less quite an attractive price.
the link on the advert is very brief.
***UPDATE***
Just done some digging found this thread......"The 5 years warranty is with Currys not Sony", but the thread then goes on to suggest it is with Sony. Shame Currys are the link here.... Currys = zero customer service

Great TV but Sony is disappointing with their lack of support for customers who are willing to pay a premium. I don't know what they are doing to make Android so slow but it should be nice and fast.

Crashing/missing features/sluggish etc...
Tempted again though if it works properly now....
Android TV is utter garbage when it comes to controlling normal TV functions.
Anyone tried HDR on Netflix with this TV? I'm curious to see if my issue is normal... It's incredibly dark!
I assumed it was the difference between HDR "lite" on this TV and proper HDR. Or does mine have a fault?
Been looking at TVs for two weeks now, getting really naffed of they are going to such great lengths to hide what it is they are really selling. Getting the actual specs of these panels is getting ridiculous. Even really basic things, like non-software enhanced refresh rates.
I guess the Hisense was your front runner?
What good could 10 bit processing possibly do, if it's not a panel capable of displaying 10 bit colours?
please see this guys

Edit: though I see that's the 65 inch. I wonder if they are the same...
One of the commenters asks for confirmation that it's 10 bit and the reviewer stops replying:
Although the following review is for the 8505, the specs for the 8509 are only marginally better - both have the 10 bit panel though:

Which was the TV you saw for £1200, out of curiosity please?
Is this the same?
I have X8509 and agree with all the good reviews here
Thank you .
Got a phone call last night and they said it will be here next Tuesday .
I got mine this week but not even had a chance to unbox it yet
I like the sound of this tv, kodi box can be used else where too. Heat.
I've had this TV for a few weeks now and have to say I'm impressed. To date I've managed to side load Mobdro and Showbox, (although showbox stopped working after the last revision) using ES file explorer. (Installed out of curiousity, not coz I use them)
