Great place to visit with the stunning roman arena and other roman ruins. Only a short drive/train to either Lake Garda or Mantua (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Very pretty town - well worth a visit. Airport very close too - no 2 hour bus ride here!
Example flight
STN - VRN Fri 06:45 - Fri 09:40 FR 4541 £16.99
VRN - STN Sun 10:05 - Sun 11:15 FR 4542 £16.99
Remember that Ryanair charge for everything else so no luggage or self selcted seat included. Personally I have never had a problem with them on umpteen flights but I know many people can't stand using them. Show me another way of getting to Verona and back for £34 ?!

Venice isn't too far by train either.

True - have gone by train from Venice to Verona years ago. I made a mistake mentioning Pisa - it's close to Florence not Verona! Doh

Verona is beautiful! We stayed in a stunning self-contained b&b apartment near the entrance to the centre. Of course, the euro was a little kinder last year; I think we paid £70/night but we were treating ourselves after a friends wedding on Gada.
If you are serious about going, I suggest using Tripadvisor to search for B&B's or Speciality Lodgings which throw up some decent accomodation. Other websites to check for accomodation are Lonely Planet / Rough Guide / Air B&B. Wandering around these types of cities is a treat in itself so don't be afraid to look at accom that is a mile or so out of the centre.
