I know that it has been cheaper in the past but still a good deal imo.
The Ribble Prime is our bike to introduce you to the world of road cycling.
Based around an alloy frame, and a carbon bladed fork, the Prime is designed for the beginner cyclist or commuter, and is available to purchase equipped with a Shimano Claris groupset, ITM finishing kit, and Schwalbe Lugano tyres.
The Claris groupset that comes equipped on the bicycle is Shimano's entry level, 8 speed groupset, but still features the same braking and shifting action as the much more expensive groupsets, using the brake lever to also perform one of the gear shifts. This system means that you are always in complete control of your bicycle.
£30 off at the moment with the spend and save. Great bike - more pretty than expected, and as much as I may wish it was a Sora or such, it shifts fine and gets you places at a pace.

I just posted a coupon for £30 off the Prime as well as £10 off other bikes £100+ ,£30 off £250 or more and £65 off £500 + bikes.
I've been delighted with my Ribble Prime which I bought around three months ago. Great to ride and nicely finished. It's too early for me to offer a definitive judgement about the reliability of Shimano Claris - I've only had the bike three months, but the doubters in this comment thread come across as ill-informed individuals who assume that more expensive components are automatically more durable. This is not my experience with low-end Shimano components. I've commuted around 9,000 miles a year on a Shimano Tourney-equipped bike for the past two years and, with regular maintenance and cleaning, only had to replace the chain three times so far, the cassette once and the brake pads a couple of times. Cheap Shimano components tend to involve compromises in weight rather than durability so I find the "ride it until it wears out" comments idiotic - I doubt the components would wear out for many thousands of miles if they are properly serviced and consumables such as the chain, cassette and, eventually, chainrings are replaced when worn. Plus "ride it until it wears out" is a completely irresponsible attitude in terms of the unnecessary waste of steel/aluminium and the energy employed in manufacturing the parts in the first place.

I can't speak for microshift, but I've yet to have shimano shifters break on me, even the cheap tourney stuff used in all weathers and generally abused over 20 odd years.

That's entirely my intention. Use it till it breaks then upgrade. The bike is not the rate limiting part of my cycling for now.

A 32T rear sprocket? Is this a bike for 10 year old girls?

Easily changed. I have a triban 3 with a lowest gear 30t/25 and I do use that on a local 5-6% hill, this isn't that much shorter a gear. Especially for new riders I think it's a good choice, more so if you live in a hilly area.

Depends if you live near me where 10-20% climbs are common place.

I have the Triban 500SE and so far very happy with my choice. However it has Microshift gears and not Claris.

Apologies, you are correct I misread the tech specs on the Decathlon website swhich included some Claris components. I guess the miscroshift would probably give the 500Se an edge, though some have raised doubts about the long term durability of that sytem too, which is often cited as the main Claris problem. In either case I'd say, if you are starting out on roadbikes, you could use the bike till components need replacing then either upgrade or move on. Still not much between them and both offer a very good value entry level bike.

Their post sales care was abysmal...even if they were overwhelmed. A simple sorry would have done! hey ho.

Sorry to say I had terrible customer service from Ribble the last time this was on offer. Personally I'd avoid them!

I've ordered lots from Ribble in the past, never had any issues. Never ordered a bike but I do think they were somewhat overwhelmed when this bike was last on offer and a victim of their own success so I wouldn't be too harsh on them.

Thanks wantsomepls, great answer. I have the tesco vertigo (bought due to hduk for £65) with claris and have a bit over 2k on it. This is a good looking bike but the triban always gets great reviews. £300 is my price point so i am not expecting dura ace! I have had no problems with claris, though it would be easy to blame the cheap cables on the groupset. A couple of simple upgrades make a big difference.

I have this bike, picked it up for £250 a few months back, absolutely love it, and would happily have paid more for it. £299 is still a fantastic price.

Thanks, that's kind of average. The Carerra vanquish on here the other day was a better bet at £264 I believe.

Does anyone know the weight of this. I want to upgrade my shifters to claris but it's about s£80 just for them. Worth having a whole bike and use the old one for winter.

they say 10.5kg - presumably that is including wheels/tyres

Good bike for the money but shimano claris groupset will start rattling after a few 100s of miles and it's rather disappointing, especially if you want to mount a go pro to the handlebar.
Besides that, its a decent bike.

It shouldn't start rattling as long as you adjust the barrel adjusters on the gear after it's bedded in.

Any opinions on this vs the triban 500 SE @ same price?

Similar spec (both Claris which is very basic Shimano gearing). The 500se comes with 23mm tyres whereas this has 25mm which might be slightly more comfy to ride, but easy enough to swap at some point. This looks a bit sexier but Decathlon are very good on after sales care and offer a year's satisfaction guarantee (I've swapped a bike after three month's riding because I chose the wrong size!). Don't know if Ribble (or anyone else for that matter) offer similar. To be honest at this price you won't go far wrong with either as a first "real" road bike so you can safely choose the one you prefer the look of!

My guess would be that the ebay seller for that item may live in Wales, and possibly Powys!

Good price for a decent starter bike. Claris is a bit of a basic group set but, if you are a beginner this will certainly get you going, and, by the time you decide you need something better you'll be moving on to a different bike anyway! For some folks this is all they'll ever need. You could probably sell this for not much less than this price. Hot

very good bike got this when was on offer last time its my 2nd road bike great service from ribble
ok maybe not going to last long if you catch the bug, but if you are looking into starting out at road cycling this IMO is a decent deal if you don't have a massive budget.
edit: looks nice aswell
