Not worth growing your own at this price.

Don't think you could grow it naturally anyway in the UK due to less say relatively 'cool' weather!

Yes, the weather has been rather cool.
I wonder if that's why my banana tree has been barren?

Banana trees here in Torquay are doing OK but I don't know if they will fruit this year. Its been cool and not as sunny as it usually is on the SW coast. Here's a picture I took last year

This melon is nicknamed The Santa Claus Melon. The reason for the name is for its long keeping qualities, ie, "until christmas". Now I can't personally vouch that it will last until christmas but if you wanted to stock up on melons for the summer this might be a good choice.

Unless they're so cheap because they've been sitting around since last summer

HaHa although no because they last from that years harvest until christmas. So from this summers (2016) harvest they will potentially last anything up to 6 months from now.

Literal meaning " skin of a toad" as it suggests from its appearance. Great price!!
However if you get a chance try the El Abuelo variety of these melons available from ASDA (not seen anywhere else), those are delicious. Expensive but worth the money.
