5 minutes for fries and thick cut chips about 10

Been meaning to get one for a while

I've heard these acti-frier things take ages to cook a portion of chips. I cook frozen oven chips in the oven and it takes 20 minutes from a cold oven to cook. How long to cook one portion of chips in one of these, please?

French Fries oven chips are about 12 minutes. Thick cut about 15 minutes.
Jacket spuds are where this thing rocks though. Microwave them on full power until you can push a knife in them, then put them in the air fryer for about 4-5 minutes and they'll crisp up like they've been in the oven for an hour.

Is this good for breaded chicken? Or battered cod etc?

This is great for most of the finger foods including the breaded stuff. Best fries and spring rolls

I cook everything in mine.
Left over pizza is yummy again
Croissant are soft and crispy
Cookies go all gooey in the middle
frozen chips,chicken etc

I have next model up and previously had two Tefal acti fryers and this is so much better compact, heats food quicker and doesn't mash them up unlike Tefal version, I can even cook pies in it using the shelf and food underneath like chips, onion rings etc.

What's the difference between this and HD9230/20

So how many portions of chips can this do? Looks quite small

These are amazing machines. It shouldn't make the slightest bit of difference, but for some reason oven chips/fries taste so much better when cooked in one of these compared to a regular oven.

I'm assuming even if we have to use it several times just to get same number of chips as done as we do now by deep frying, it saves time overall as it's quicker?

The actifry is different from this - it uses a spoon of oil. I have an actifry and cook fries for one in it basically for the same time it says on the packet for oven - 16 minutes. So it actually works out quicker as that's 16 minutes from switching it on - no 10 minutes waiting for the oven to preheat first. However, unlike an oven where you have a wide area you can spread them over, I think the time increases the more you do. So for multiple portions I think it will take longer. But for one, it's great!

​ obviously depending on your portion size but I tend to get 3 lots out of the basket, much more and they don't cook as good.

Don't listen to anyone who says these are only good for cooking a portion of chips, I have done pasties, sausages, mini pizzas, baghis and many types of potato products. Excellent value.

Only thing I have found isn't too good is bacon

This is the older version, the new digital one has been out for some time now, so probably trying to get rid of old stock, could be cheaper if this is so. Keeping my eye open as I need new one, mine so well used its worn out. Good bit of kitchen kit.

Mine makes takeaway style chips in 8-12 minutes, depending on how many you put in the basket.

I use the Smart Price chips from Asda. 75p for a 1.5Kg bag. Two spoons of oil and you can't go wrong.

Also good for chicken wings and stuff like that.

​quicker than 20 mins this isnt an actifry its an airfryer uses hot air to cook, little tip give the chips a shake every now n then whilst cookin to make them cook more evenly.

​it is not quicker than deep frying.

​sausages from chilled work aswell

​pretty much the same thing except one has a digital timer

You'll be struggling to cook more than 2 decent portions of chips/fries in one, it's more like a mini fan oven, limited by it's size, bit of a luxury really.

Pity it only comes in black, can't think of a more jarring or less practical colour on my kitchen worktop, worth a lot less than £66 for that reason.

it does have white in colour but I am not sure the price( I got a white with tesco direct same price as black at that time )

My sister bought an actifry, cooked fresh cut chips in it, thought it was rubbish, gave it to my parents.
Mind you, the actifry differs in that it does use a bit of oil. Either a spoonful for frying chips or that already present on oven chips.
