I agree completely regarding accreditation and potential false advertising of 'original' costs, but if you would like to learn more about a subject you're interested in they are well worth it at £1! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of teaching and interaction.
Towards the end of the course they will try to promote the 'reduced' lifetime membership option. Just don't be taken in by it (I'm sure no true hukd-ers would be that gullible!), and all will be fine.

Signed up for this to get my NUS Extra Card. I've previously had then via Endsleigh but that doesn't work anymore as they post them to the Endsleigh office. So this works well as a way to get your NUS card. More ethical too, as you are genuinely now a student:-)

How do you get Amazon prime for £30? Are you talking about Amazon Prime for students? If so, I thought you had to have a .ac.uk email address for that? How do I sign up with just an NUS card?

15 Jul 161#63
Does not work unless you have a valid (presumably .ac.uk) e-mail address. Go through the whole shebang, get to the end process and won't let you submit unless you have filled the field, highlighting in red "Please enter a valid email address"

I'd love to hear from people that actually have the time to complete one of these courses in 4 weeks, because I can tell you, it's rather tricky. And good luck getting them to give you the course for anything less than £329 or whatever it is because it's not gonna happen. Voted cold because this is a misleading deal. I promise that this is not meant to be against the poster of this deal, but the fine print is typical of companies, so I just thought I'd 'add my 2 cents' so to speak.
If anybody manages to complete one of these courses in a month however, very well done to you

Completed my first course in 5wks. Obtained high-90s in final assignment. Now on my 2nd course but I expect that to be more demanding. Cost £2 + optional 5EU for first course; £1 + optional 9EU for 2nd. Both CPD level, so "foundation" or similar. No interest in the lifetime membership rubbish at silly money.
corred1964
5 Jul 162#10
The courses are pointless & the "qualifications" absolutely worthless as they are more introductory courses & they are not accredited by any approved examination board......
By all means do it if you want an NUS card but the courses will not achieve anything....these courses are always being offered at this "discount" or even free....they have never been £199

Is the NUS extra card the same as having a student card? For example, can I use it to buy stuff at a "concessions" price where available? I thought it was just like having a discount card and you only get the advertised promotions that come with the card.

Lol. "The Shaw Academy" is included in the dropdown list of selectable recognised institutions within the NUS sign-up page. If the NUS rejected your application, it was because you did not select "The Shaw Academy" from the NUS-provided dropdown list or some other issue.

Looks good for £1, there are several good websites online that offer free courses if you are looking to learn new things, Alison and Coursera come to mind and Khan Academy is fantastic for learning maths. They won't entitle you to an NUS card as far as I'm aware but fantastic resources nonetheless! Oh and shout out to YouTube as well, some great tutorials on there for almost everything!

11 Jul 16#37
Don't understand the Q, but typically a course lasts 6wks from the date of the first live lesson. If you login to your SA account and look under "Course Details" it should state the date and time of each live lesson. A video recording of each live lesson is typically available the day after the lesson. The closing date to take the optional final assignment is typically two weeks after the final lesson, which should be 6wks after the course started. HTH.

AndyRoyd to mattbrfc
9 Jul 16#34
Via the GG offer, you're normally given an option of two or three start dates over the coming months for each course. Once a GG-sourced course starts, you have about 6 weeks to complete it before it expires from your SA account. You can study any number of courses concurrently. If you pay the hefty and aggressively-promoted fee for lifetime membership of SA, you can start, attend, revisit, take final assessments (obtaining certificates) whenever and as often as you wish at no additional cost. Basically you are paying £1 to be inundated with marketing designed to relieve you of £300-£400 to buy lifetime membership, any benefit you can obtain in the meantime from the brief courses is a bonus.

anglo to nablor
9 Jul 16#31
I didn't think the 'hard sell' was excessive, two phone calls to me that were part feedback to them of the course I took and partly to try and sell the lifetime membership for £300 that, to be fair to them, also includes 3 other family or friends that can access any courses via your membership. I didn't sign up though
PS. There were also around half a dozen 'hard sell' emails over a week or so near the end of the course.

So the photography course is great and the support is too.. however, be aware that their business model is to call and email a lot to try and get you to sign up for their lifetime membership at ~£300. That gets you access to all their other courses. They'll push it hard.
Which I guess is fine as long as you know that in advance. Something to be aware of.

SA do not issue a student number. If you wish to raise legitimacy, quote your 10digit GoGroopie order number at that stage - that's as near as you will get to a student number, otherwise enter a random 10digit number and you will be able to progress.

No. TBH, the only requirement appears to be that you say you are a student (in this instance: at "The Shaw Academy"). You can do a dummy run by entering any email address at the NUS card sign-up page and progressing an application up until the payment stage. All seems far too casual and open to abuse.
