Just ordered what seems like a cracking deal - Nikon D5300 with VR kit lens. £380+£10 postage. Not much more than the D3300 I was looking at but comes with WIFI, GPS and tilt screen.
After searching online it appears Hdew use imported cameras, but they are shipped from UK so include import and duty taxes. Comes with 12 month Nikon guarantee and a further 2 year warranty with a Nikon approved repair centre.
@SaxonStar - 50mm is a bit long for indoors on an apsc camera. The nikon 35mm 1.8 is a very good standard and a bargain too.

Thanks for that, I think I will look at getting a new lens. Great picture by the way!

I recommend the 35mm for a mixture of everyday use and standard casual portraiture. I went around all of South America and Europe with a Tokina 11-16mm and the Nikon 35mm as my two travel lenses and wasn't disappointed. I tried a 50mm but it just felt slightly too long for everyday use, although it was possible to make shots look quite intimate using it. Best way to find out which one works best for you might be to stick the kit lens on the focal length of each for a day or two.

Try not to all laugh at once.... but I currently own a Nikon D80. I really want to upgrade to this (especially as I'm going to a wedding this weekend and was planning on taking my D80) but I need to justify to myself the cost of the upgrade opposed to waiting.... someone persuade me?

In one word - yes. You can wait whole life for better deals. D5500 can drop price and then model... Important part is, if u have lences, which will not fit on D5300. Checking compactibility online is easy these days. Best idea is to go first in local shop, hold camera in hands, if it's not too small grip for you, try buttons (on new cameras are less and less buttons). There is always bigger D7100.

Nothing wrong with a D80 mate, Im still using a D90 my next upgrade is with going to be the D7200 or I might go mirrorless, but i wont be doing that for a while. its prob worth investing in lenses than a new body, unless the body is not allowing you to achieve what you need.
Nothing wrong with the delivery or the price but the guy in the posting was clearly not happy with the warranty claim he made with HDEW. Yes the camera is cheaper but the warranty is not as good as you would get if purchasing a UK Model.

It's a very good camera (I paid £313.00 in a Curry's closing down sale a couple of months ago) but two things:
1) I think the standard auto settings create a picture which is a little drab, a few tweaks and the colours look great.
2) it does take a long time to get GPS. Initially, to save battery, I would turn it off after a few shots and it would take another minute or two to find signal each time I turned the camera back on. It's best to just leave the camera on until you want to put it away. It was not as if there were lots of buildings to block signal and has happened in the middle of Canterbury and (separately) in a fjord in Norway........

Ooh, you did well there. I'm not 100% sure what use I'd have for the GPS functionality but excited above the WiFi. First foray into DSLRs.

Wow, what a price. I bought mine from Amazon a couple of months back and love it. Make sure you get a good prime lens as well for the perfect combo (I've got the Nikon 35mm one). The Nikon 55-200 is a great lens as well to go with this. Along with the kit lens it gives you good options for different scenarios.

I've been looking at prime lenses for once my other half as got over the shock of this purchase. I've heard good reports over the 35mm and the 50mm. Any recommendations for one over the other?

Try doing some proper research or, do as I have done in the past, phone Nikon themselves. You are also a member of talk photography and have sung the praises of grey imports in the past on here too. It's perfectly safe going grey
Old & outdated. I have used Panamoz & HDEW in the past. Nikon honours the first 12 months but after that, they will tell you to contact the place of purchase. As already mentioned in this thread, HDEW has a very good reputation (check talkphotography forums for example.)

This is a really great camera for the price. Only problem is you won't have a warranty as it's an import.

Your warranty is with HDEW,the camera may be an import, but HDEW are uk based & i've read of good experiences when it comes to claiming on the warranty

You do get a warranty, you'll get the first year direct with Nixon, the remaining will be a 3rd party who are authorised repairers.
Be Warned, NIKON are seriously difficult to deal with for returns and CS they wont even accept amazon marketplace sellers they consider it a 3rd party seller, so you pretty much will get zero warranty with this.

Whilst I've never had cause to claim, my D7200 from them came with a 3year 3rd party warranty. I agree it's unlikely that this is as good as a nikon one but it's something at least (and 2 years longer...)

Good price but no Nikon UK Warranty, any returns would have to be via the dealer.

Bought a D7200 from Hdewcameras last year and saved over £300. Seem a good company to deal with. Heat added.
