Great tablet for the price, brand new only just released updated model of the iconia a3-a30 with much improved specs a full hd 1920 x 1200 screen, dolby dts technology with support for virtual surround 32gb storage as standard and android 6.0 marshmallow out of the box.
Not many merchants selling in the uk as of yet (probably due to it being a new release) though its going on amazon.co.uk for £271 cheapest option so £179 from argos is a steal I think. I was looking at a tablet from lenovo for the exact same price when I saw this and it has much better specs.
Built-in speaker.
Webcam.
Wi-Fi enabled.
Bluetooth - enabling you to easily and wirelessly connect with other Bluetooth enabled devices.
3.5mm stereo headphone jack.
Microphone.
microSD memory card slot.
Mini HDMI.
Micro USB.

Been offered a nexus 9 unused for £140, would I be better off getting this?

If I were you, i would definitely go for nexus 9, for it's 4:3 ratio screen, and always available latest ROM.

Mmm.. depends on your requirements.
Nexus 9: Getting on a bit now but still a very good tablet. (i've got one). Top of the range model, great performance, ace screen quality and the 4:3 ratio is ideal for reading/browsing. Also, the two front facing speakers are better than most for listening to videos etc. Google has recently announced no guaranteed android updates after Oct 2016. The 16GB variant does not allow much room at all for storing videos, games, music etc. No micro sd expansion slot.
Acer: Mid range model, with a spec to match. Has microsd expansion. Same price on acer's uk website. Perfectly ok (probably) but nothing to get excited about.
Me: 32GB Nexus 9 - defo. 16GB Nexus 9 - as long as on-board storage limitation is not a deal breaker, at £140 new, it tips the balance for me over the acer.

I use the Nexus 9, it's flawless. Handles everything I throw out of it and it's successfully put the iPad out of commission

I came here to see if anyone had compared those haha.
I am torn too, was looking to buy the shield but I haven't decided yet.
I don't really care about the game streaming of this one but I would like to play my android games with a controller. I wonder if I would be better off buying another tablet and seeing if there is an app to do keybinds with a wireless ps4 controller or something. Hmm

The Shield is better, it may have a smaller screen but the spec is better and is cheaper. Also you know Nvidia will support the Shield with more regular software updates. Acer will leave this at Android 6 and release another tablet with a slight spec bump with a new Android version.

Yeh I'd actually prefer the slightly smaller screen tbh. Had 10" tablet before and didn't really get on with it.
I thought it was silly just to buy this tablet for keybinds but tbh I don't think it is. It's a good usp and good spec tablet = will do everything I want and then some. Cheers
