Clearance bin of Nest 2nd generation Thermostat, approx 10 left after my purchase. Reduced to £70, next cheapest I can see is £119 from Screwfix.
Was going to buy the 3rd generation but have a combi gas boiler with no hot water tank so this will do the same job.
Could just be local deal but worth checking out your nearest store if interested. Product not stocked online.

Are we supposed to congratulate you that YOUdon't need this product?
Have you ever thought that others may not be in the same situation as you?
Do you not have the imagination to envisage where it might be useful?

I'm not convinced,
My Honeywell has a learning algorithm that works perfectly well too.
I don't want to wait for 'auto learn', when I can program it myself straight away.
I only work 25 mins from home so geolocation isn't going to help much and there are other people in the house who are even more local.
My free smart meter and energy company apps give me usage reports.
lotta heat for a store specific deal that has run out of stock . . .

I'd much rather power it from the Nest Link (which is by my boiler) meaning the 12v supply is carried by the old thermostat cables. Can't be bothered with changing batteries every 5 minutes.

I got there at 2 minutes past 1 pm, to find Mr and Mrs greedy walking towards the till with about 5 between them. Needless to say, they cleared the shelves, so this is definitely expired from newtownabbey

nothing like a doom merchant on a Sunday afternoon. This is one of Google's best selling products, they paid Billions to get it under their umbrella and support will be ongoing for some time...the V1 is still fully supported with no issues

I'd say this is expired. After dithering all morning, I made the 30 minute trip to B&Q Newtownabbey.
I got there around 2pm and there weren't any in the bargain section.
I thought my luck was in when I found one discarded at the thermostat section but when I got to the till, it was £119.
I'm now questioning what I'm doing with my life.

Just want to remind people, this is the company that has shut down services making some of their products useless.
So say a bug is found or the app breaks do not expect any help especially on older products.

No... It's not just smartphone control -it's the more even temperature in the house (thanks to true radiant algorithm), it's the auto learn of your schedule and temperature preferences, it's the fact that as I set out for home it automatically heats the house awaiting my arrival (using the phones geolocation), it's the monthly heating reports, is the safety integration with my smoke alarms and it's saved me a lot of money in my heating bills.( More than paid for itself)

You clearly don't understand how the Nest works.
Zimmy
17 Jul 16#38
The only real advantage of these is the smartphone control. Useful for people who work irregular hours, etc. All the other features have been available on much cheaper programmers for years. I have a Honeywell that you just set which temperature you want at what day/time and it does the rest, rarely override it and half the price of this so not worth it for me.

17 Jul 16#37
I think the other advantage is that it can notified that you're on your way home, so it'll heat up your house in time for your arrival (works out your travel time, and the time it takes to heat up your house).

Thank you, I see, I never actually put timers or anything when are out. Our system includes larger radiators which would make the place warm in a short time once switched on, so no need to waste fuel etc... apart from the fact that it can still be an hazard when not under control and definitely always switch it off when out. USED ONLY WHEN NEEDED, only the girls always feel cold, lol

Yes its ridiculous. My current thermostat runs on batteries and is reasonbly near a socket. But that's useless as I can't wire the nest in directly and having a dangling cable is just stupid.

17 Jul 161#32
Fwiw, it doesn't *have* to be powered from USB. It can be powered from 12v mains, and the NEST link serves this up - I used the existing wiring from my old thermostat to achieve this.

No battery! Yes that's stupid. My thermostat is nowhere near a socket and I don't fancy a wire dangling down a wall. What happens if there's a power cut? Are the settings saved?

17 Jul 16#29
Great idea but stupid design, there are better like Hive.
Having a thermostat on the wall that needs a USB power supply is just crazy, others use battery's... and the lean function is just stupid.

Oh please don't try to re invent the wheel. If you're going on holiday you can manually switch off, it's one thing you should have on your check list of things to do. If you have to operate your heating when you're not there you are wasteful or careless and switching your heating on early is more comfortable but can never ever be cost saving. So as for getting this I would say yes it is a no brainer, but speak to someone with a brain and they'll educate you differently.

These are a life saver, top marks for discovering this, someone I know was returning home from a night out slightly worse for wear and not thinking about his boiler happened to pass a B&Q needed the loo so popped in and passed the thermostat isle, on his way out he nearly opted for a basic stat for a tenner, but luckily he went for the £70 option because two hundred yards up the road he was accosted by a mugger who saw he had no money left and let him be, He grabbed the Hive thing, but gave it him back with a smug look on his face, did he know something others don't I wonder?

Have you ever forgotten to switch the heating off before going on holiday? Think of the money you would save if you could switch it off remotely. Is it not horrible to come home to a cold house? Has your house ever been too hot or too cold in the morning because maybe its working off a timer and weather has changed? Does your current thermostat know what day of the week it is? (i.e. if you're at work Monday - Friday versus the weekend?)
With the price of oil and gas, these are a no brainer.

I thought he said advantages, Are there any, apart from not having to carry £70 round in your pocket?

17 Jul 16#23
its not necessary,
I use ours to turn off on the heating from the phone, our boiler is in our main bedroom and its really annoying if we had it on and forgot to turn it off and it kicks on so turning it off from the phone is nice, but no there is no real reason to have this!

It works like a normal thermostat to control your heating, but you can control and program it from your smart phone or the internet. The thermostat is supposed to learn how you use it so it can adjust your programming if you keep turning the heating on at different times, turning the temp down etc. It also detects motion so if you're not in, it will turn the heating off.
Personally, I find the learning bit not so brilliant. It never seems to learn much from me adjusting stuff and at times it does bizarre things like turning on the heating when it's over 20 outside (which it knows) but I've opened the windows and the inside temperature has dropped a bit.
The really useful bit for me is being able to turn the heating on / off / up / down from my phone if I'm out.

any reason why I shouldn't choose this over the 3rd gen for a combi boiler? Is it just a cosmetic upgrade, or are there alot less features?
Has google stopped support for this product?
There is a lot of different products out now, so its a little difficult to know which one to buy.

Not sure I understand - wiring up heating only (v2) is much easier than wiring up heating and hot water(v3) . There's a nice Scottish man on YouTube who explains v2 and the 'common wire' quite well
It was the 'satisfied' wire for hot water on v3 that threw me. Took me a few weeks to 'satisfy' myself I'd done it right

Yes have to agree I wouldn't have wanted to install my v2 on my own. But upgrade to three was literally one extra cable
