Do it Do it Do it!! Krakow is STUNNING!!!!! Auschwitz is hugely sobering.... I recommend getting into the old Jewish quarter of Krakow and finding some of the traditional jazz - kezler jazz. When you find out that about 2000 Jews survived out of 60,000, man....that hits hard.

Be warned though, you might find that you meet people and learn things that make you sympathise with the EU ideals. I'd hate for any of you little Englanders to go and get educated on what the great wild world actually entails. Suggest if you're keen to "retain your sovereignty", you pass this over and hit up a nice secluded all-inclusive somewhere. #still #ashamed

The sign outside Aushwitz said 4 million killed at the camp which was then reduced to 1.5 million in 1995 but the figure of 6 million was never revised. Every figure for the hollowcause has been revised exponentially downwards yet the 6 million figure remains. IHR : institute for Historical reform carry on sheeple

What an earth are you on about? Look up Little Englander, if you fall into this category then the second part is about you, if you do not fall into this category then it is not about you. By definition, a person described as Little Englander would have no interest in this deal... trouble with the bleedin internet now, people look to assume they are being insulted. Everyone's "outraged", but generally, people are just quick to judge.

Its not pretty much 3 nights, it is 3 nights. The deal states 2 nights

Plus you paid £40 extra to get a morning outbound and evening inbound,

I recommend it. All goes to show how evil a remote, undemocratic government which ruled Europe against the wishes of its citizens can be.

Auschwitz (can see everything in under a hour) is not really the place to go for the full experience - Birkenau is far,far more sobering (you will need over an hour).

As you gaze on the tracks leading people to the 'showers', in the holocaust - You might like to reflect the Germans never really change their ways.... Now a Animal holocaust is currently occurring due to EU rules - in similar mega slaughter houses like Berkenau which have sprung up due to the EU allowing animals to be killed by Religious slaughter, millions of animals (30% of UK meat) are inhumanely killed by non stun barbaric halal slaughter. (The RSPCA/Animal welfare council says they die in horrific agony taking upto 2 mins to drown in their own blood when the neck is sliced open). Consumers are not allowed to know - made illegal by EU food labelling directives (EU directive No 1169/2011)

Oh- Stay out of the Jewish synagogue museum. Paid something like £10, and it was simply 3 bunches of blown up photos of the polish ghetto which took about 5 mins to see. Outrageous IMO compared to what else is on offer. The castle is better, but has a only a few tapestries, paintings, old chairs sat in by the tzar that sort of thing etc...

Lots of bands play live in the 'pibs' in the 'Jewish quarter' - pretty good place to go in a evening. Watch the beer - can be 12% alcohol.

Well it's not really is it.. I go early on a Saturday morning and return late on the Monday, pretty much 3 nights away.

As for it being freezing, it's a city break - If I wanted a hot holiday I would have booked a hotter country.

The Auschwitz tour is probably the main attraction that I'm sure most visitors do the Krakow so I'm not sure why you would leave it out.

wow try to be more obnoxious and patronising in your tone not too mention the hilarious generalisation. Alot of us are highly cultured and well travelled without the need to try and moronically put others around us down. for someone of such a high moral standing you seem to lack an astounding amount of intelligence.

One thing I would say is that It is very easy to visit Auschwitz by yourself. We got there a few minutes before it opened and were the first in and we were able to spend time at the main camp and camp 2 before the hoards of people came. When we returned back to the main camp to get public transport back to Krakow it was so busy you couldn't even get into the buildings as there were huge tour groups. There was something moving about seeing it empty and peaceful. I'd strongly recommend trying to avoid the tour groups. You can buy a small guide book from the shop that provides an explanation of each building and the staff were also very helpful at this time as there weren't large groups of people. Just my opinion.

so as the deal stands, its basically an auschwitz tour which takes 6 hours at least and an evening in krakow or dont bother with the tour so you'll just have 1 day in freezing krakow?

I have no idea why this is a hot deal when you see it like that

24 Jul 16 #125
I tried doing it on my own and buying it all separate but I found the Auschwitz tour was quite expensive.. it may be cheaper while your over there I'm not sure but it was expensive to book.

The flights they offer you are are a late flight out there and an early flight back so you technically miss a day.. I paid £40 extra which got me early flights out, late flights back, breakfast over the 3 days (which I think won it for me

Strongly suggest you take the bus rather that the train if you want to go to Auschwitz. The rickety old train takes an eternity . Bus doesn't exactly fly , but it's the better option. There is a free shuttle bus between Aushwitz 1 & the incredibly poignant Auschwitz 2 .

Is it excellent value for 2 nights?

I dont think so coupled with the reviews of go groopie and the fact you buy the voucher before you know what you are getting, avoid.

DIY ,you could do 3 or 4 nights for few pounds more and Krakow is worth more than 2 nights
deanoevans86
22 Jul 16 #116
Yeah i agree good value at £109 if you're flying from london, Krakow is lovely, but i was working on the basis of the price in the title of this deal and was only interested solely because of the price as I'm already going away later in the year so I thought this was a great ultra-cheap deal I could arrange for me and my friends. I always read the small print but I must have missed it because the title of this deal i.e. £79pp and "for 2 sharing one room" was already in my subconscious. Also, the hotel is a 50min walk from the centre (or short taxi ride) which i was happy with for the price of £79pp but at £149pp i may aswell pay a little more, book the flights separately, and get a hotel in the main square in a better location and saving on taxi fares. So from that point of view it diminishes the value of the deal.
crystal18
22 Jul 16 #115
I'd worked out it was £109 or whatever each - still excellent value - I would like assurance that three of us can go i.e. a family room. I guess I'll have to call or email them when I get a minute ... and hope I can get through to a real person!
deanoevans86
22 Jul 16 2 #114
DO NOT GET THIS DEAL.
Ignore the 'hot' rating. It is not £79pp!! The go-groopie website is misleading you into thinking that each voucher is for 2 people . I have just spent all day trying to book for me and my friends. I purchased 3 vouchers at £149 each (the 3 night regional airport option) for 6 of us to go. The website highlights that the voucher is for "2 sharing one room" but hidden in the small print it says that you have to purchase one voucher per person so it is in fact double the cost advertised. Even if the price was correct it was still an absolute ball ache trying to firstly purchase the voucher then a nightmare trying to redeem against a company called 'deluxe breaks'. Please remove this post before more people get ripped off. I hate these tactics used by voucher companies, I should have known better. At least i can get a refund and i now know never to use go-groopie again, but i'll never get this day back. COLD :disappointed:

I went early last year and had a lovely mini break - we did the salt mines too. Trains and trams were all very easy though having B&B made it better still. My daughter starts her GCSE History in September so is keen to go - the school trip is oversubscribed. But I can't work out whether 3 of us can go (husband too) or if we have to buy the tickets/vouchers in pairs. Any one know please?

In fact, a lot of countries operate a two-tiered system for the entrance to places of interest. It's probably as much to do with educating their own as it is a revenue stream from tourists.

I went to Cuba recently; average government wage is 35 USD per month. A company like Apple could nearly pick up the Cuba's entire wage tab with it's profits (yearly wage bill = $45bn / yearly profits = $35bn). One company. Combine Apple and Microsoft and you'd have change. Maybe people think that's fine, maybe people think that's obscene.

I had no problem in paying the inflated tourist rate in cuba when I realised that I take about 4 months worth of salary when I go for a few beers and a kebab! How insane is that?

it's not a 'tourist attraction' - it's a museum of holocaust. the aim of it was so people don't forget about what happened and as a reminder to not let this happen again.

there's actually few other sites turned into museums too, but Auschwitz was the biggest one. You would be surprised as too how many people have no idea what happened there.

I thought it was a fantastic deal until I read the comments about this company.

It pays to read every post in a thread, whether it be about the quality of an item or a holiday.

The OP seems more concerned with 'heat', than people having to deal with a company with an appalling reputation.

Feel for anyone who has 'bought' this deal, may not get what they were expecting and having to fight to get a refund.

Anyone who voted out because public services and housing are stretched IS uneducated, the money for these services started being borrowed further and paid direct to 'parents' as child tax credits, but you wont moan about that hand out that actually also entraps poverty in a 16 hour week cycle and eradicates public services spending.

Can someone help clarify something; it says "Per person" but I cannot find anything that explains exactly what I'm buying for the £79.

If I buy one of these for £79 will two people get a flight each and a hotel room to stay? Or will that only cover one set of flights? It very clearly states that one purchase is PER PERSON but that doesn't make sense, as I could presumably buy two of these separately and get two hotel rooms.

What am I buying if I want flights for two people sharing one room?

I think you need to take your morally outraged self off and have a little study of what Racism is. It is a very powerful term that is belittled by people who use it in an inappropriate manner.

Here is the definition of the term Little Englander. Quite accurate, I think you'll find:
"Little Englander" is an epithet applied in criticisms of British nationalists, English nationalists, or English people who are regarded as xenophobic and/or overly nationalistic and are often accused of being "ignorant" and "boorish".

Ahh, I see. Spelling aside, I've always viewed it as jazz because previously I'd only ever seen it's type in the uk. There's a great little Scottish outfit called Moishe's Bagel who we've seen several times when they come down south who are influenced by this music, and, there used to be a Friday lunchtime series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall (in one of the cafes) which used to showcase world music with a lot of gypsy and klezmer. I think the series was called Ignite?

Anyway, we caught a couple of lunchtime recitals which were very good but the stand-out was dinner at Klezmer-Hois
restaurant which is decked out authentically for the tourists and has top musicians.

Can't beat city breaks to Europe. So educational...

Would like to do something like this trip for the money but it's too far from here in Scotland to go "down South" for the flights.

As some have mentioned it's likey to be a tad on the chilly side at that time of year....

Wouldn't mind doing the Auschwitz tour (spent a few years in my younger days based at Belsen with the Army). When I was working in Israel in 2004/2005, I decided to visit the holocaust museum in Jerusalem but on the day I went it was closed.

Just as I was about to turn around there was a local chap who asked if he could help and I just happened to notice the memorial for the victims of Bergen Belsen and made a passing comment that my "Great Uncle Andrew" had liberated the camp back in the day... All of sudden the doors were unlocked and I was given a personal tour of the museum!

A few years back I did decide to look into Holocaust denial and I have to say it brings up some interesting points...this was mainly after seeing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the President of Iran being interviewed on a few shows on TV...

After all - billions believe in the son of a virgin without blinking an eye...

I quite agree - imagine if the 'remain' camp had won the vote, and those who voted to leave had started howling in rage, setting up online petitions etc and demanding another vote - can you guess what some of the headlines might have said about racists being bad losers and so on ?
It always makes me laugh when anyone with right wing views is labelled a racist, nazi etc, then you see the mobs of lefties out in force trying to disrupt any sort of march or meeting, and deny some British citizens their legal right to freedom of speech (And the mobs usually contain a fair sprinkling of non-Brits who are here milking the system).

the original diary, including letters and loose sheets, were willed to the Dutch Institute for War Documentation, who commissioned a forensic study of the diary through the Netherlands Ministry of Justice in 1986. They examined the handwriting against known examples and found that they matched. They determined that the paper, glue, and ink were readily available during the time the diary was said to have been written. They concluded that the diary is authentic, and their findings were published in what has become known as the "Critical Edition" of the diary. On 23 March 1990, the Hamburg Regional Court confirmed the diary's authenticity.

To spend 6 hours on the trip from a very short tour might mean some people would prefer to have extra sightseeing, as it's about half a day gone, so a quarter of the free time ?
There are other reasons of course, but that leads us into a very different discussion not ideally suited to this site.
kamenitzabrit
22 Jul 16 #48
The reason many of us go to visit 'poorer' eastern European countries is because they are cheaper, so it's possible to have several cheaper holidays rather than one higher priced one, and so locals actually get more tourists and more money coming in to their country, but sadly many of them see us a some sort of 'cash cow' to be fleeced at every opportunity.
I have lived and worked in a different eastern European country where the same thing happened at many tourist attractions. They got around the rules by posting high prices on notices, but gave their own citizens a cheaper price, so my friends used to buy the tickets for me as I was working at their wage rate. The fools didn't seem to realise that they were actually endangering their tourist industry, because some features of these places like increased chance of pickpocketing by the local ethnic minority, mean that there has to be an upside like cheap prices, to justify going.
Expat forums have frequent discussions on this topic, so I realise there are two very different but equally entrenched points of view.

It's actually a very good saving if you live in or near Manchester, as not everyone lives in London ! Please explain how the comparison is not relevant ?
You've posted a good deal at a good price, but why the defensive attitude when someone points out a possible saving ? I don't live near either, but still like to see other options printed here in case someone finds them useful.

It may seem cheap now, but by November the Pound could be much weaker. I suppose it's all relative, so Krakow/Poland will still be less expensive than, say, Rome or Madrid etc.

the original diary, including letters and loose sheets, were willed to the Dutch Institute for War Documentation, who commissioned a forensic study of the diary through the Netherlands Ministry of Justice in 1986.

Remember Obama said we would be at the back of the queue. Now they want to renegotiate and said we are at the front of the queue. Remember the IMF saying we would be worse off. Now they have revised and we are better off than all of the EU. Etc etc.

And don't even bother looking at the real facts when you go into Auschwitz. Always amazes me when people don't even know about the Anne Frank court case where her father putchased the story and handwriting experts show it's a fake. If only he hadn't been so greedy and paid up no one would have found out.

That may be your view. But it's not a view shared by very large numbers of people who disagree with you. If you listen to the 'strong and genuine belief' you hear what it was all about - keeping out refugees and immigrants. You also hear the sheer stupidity of the arguments, and the low intelligence of the average Brexit voter. I won't even mention all the lies that these gullible people were daft enough to believe - what happened to all the lies about the £350m pw going into the NHS for example?

Back on topic.

I agree. The deal is for a voucher with no information of flight times etc. Might not be such a great deal if flights are landing at 1am in krakow or departing krakow at 6am.

I even doubt anyone has even taken up this deal from the listing on hukd yet it makes the top deal of the day board.
chocci
22 Jul 16 1 #36
Its moronic statements like that which brought us to where we are today . Deal with it. That is a gross insult to the many millions of people who came out to vote to ‘Leave’ and did so with a strong and genuine belief.

I am afraid that is just the sort of attitude which has characterised the views of many of the EU as a remote institution deaf to the concerns of ordinary people.

The deal seems too good to be true and was about to book but first, I did a bit of searching: -

It's a brilliant deal if it goes smoothly but I decided against it.

We had a great time in Krakow, I didn't go to Auchwitz as I went to Krakow to enjoy myself and thought it would be depressing, some of the others in our group went and said it was thought provoking and worth visiting. The plus side is that Krakow is cheap, we went for a meal and gave more in tips than the price of the meal.

Airlines buy their fuel way in advance, the drop in the pound will affect ticket prices in the future as the higher prices they are paying for fuel are factored into the ticket prices. The results of Brexit will take a good few months to filter through to the ordinary person on the street. No one really knows what will happen long term either way but making comments about how Brexit has changed/not changed things after a few weeks are foolish.

You can get a train from Krakow Airport to Krakow Glowny which is the town centre. It costs about £1.50 each way.

You probably mean the hotel though - looks like it's in the middle of nowhere. Taxis are cheap, in fact everything is pretty cheap in Krakow compared to UK Prices.

Have some perogi.

Just priced 14th-17th November from Manchester- budget air line RA- staying at same hotel though aroma- flights £46 each, hotel £128- total cost £220 this is staying 1 EXTRA night to. This website is charging £298 for 3 nights,1 night less!!
And ok I havent included trip to Auschwitz but been there it cost buttons and easily accessed on public transport.
So save yourself £80 -get 1 extra night and book it yourself

I went last December. Beautiful polish city, right up there with Prague and Budapest for me. It was a large coat and wooly hat weather when I went, but they had all the Christmas markets set up with hot apple cider and mulled wine, so it wasn't too bad.

The Auschwitz tour is definitely a sobering experience, but an enriching experience nontheless. All in all, this is a smashing deal for people looking for a weekend getaway to an amazing city in Europe.

P.s. great bars/night life. Everything is really cheap too. Damn, now I really want to go back.
