Ive just had one delivered and its a good sounding speaker in a handy case. The box was a bit tatty but its brand new unsed speaker. Quite pleased with it!

This speaker has Bluetooth version only 2.1 which will affect battery life, for both phone and speaker.
Low energy versions starting from 3.0, most energy efficient is 4.0

I bought one of these from Tesco outlet when they had Best Offer and got it for £13.50 but sent it back as I thought it sounded quite tinny, maybe I was expecting too much for the price

Unfortunately, everyone's hearing is different. So you may not hear what everyone else does. Or as you say, you expect too much for the price. On the other hand, I was going to buy a bose portable speaker until I heard them. Then ended up buying better headphones instead.

These don't sound tinny, so maybe yours was faulty.
Can do an FFT signal trace with calibrated measurement mic if it helps ?
