I think it's the £26/month tariff with no upfront cost which gives you the device for £192.

Take out the contract, as soon as phone arrives, cancel airtime contract and request unlock code.

There's already a Nougat beta available for this so it looks like Huawei might be getting their updates out sooner than the other manufacturers. Great price for a current flagship.

Better to have it unlocked now for free for the future if you change networks to something other than O2/GG. Also would be easier to sell it unlocked.

Note that the HV8 has 1Gb more RAM (i.e. 4Gb), a larger screen (by ½ inch, i.e. 5.7") so larger size & weight, larger capacity battery (3500mAh) & infrared. Fast charging is also supported (from reviews), so ignore the omission of this in the comparison link below.

May depend on what aspects & features are important to you.

Specs comparison here (study them carefully).

I would go for this for 3 main reasons: 5.2" (G4 is 5.5" so too large for me), 2 rear cameras (G4 has only 1), all-metal unibody (G4 has a metal frame & leather back?)

ILet us know how it works out with paying off the credit agreement and cancelling the airtime contract.

I'm still waiting on mine despite their promise of an early morning delivery and it having been out in the delivery van since before 9am. Pretty poor customer service from the outset.

Collected mine on Monday and it looks like I got a brand new handset, as all original Huawei stickers were on it. Popped my giffgaff sim in and was good to go. Also there was no O2 splash screen on start up, which I was pleased about - for some reason it just annoys me ever so slightly when a carrier pops their splash screen on a phone haha!

So far I'm amazed by this phone. Camera is a lot better than my SU6, and this is so fast! Screen is beautiful, and battery life I've found is also better than my SU6. Lots of options to help improve battery life. I haven't found EMUI that bad or intrusive at all? Some people get annoyed but I can't see why tbh. Would recommend!

I use to organise my phone like that, however I just got sick of reorganising when I changed phones etc, and loading settings from old launcher to new. So now my phone is a hybrid of just what I need organised and a total mess. I also cut out as many widgets as possible too. In fact I just checked my home screen and there's one organised folder, and the rest is seperate icons, on another home screen I have one organised folder called Programming. I guess it works for me

You're mistaken Android is the operating system, EMUI is the launcher. You're not changing from Android to EMUI as that's impossible as they're not the same thing at all. Android is an operating system, the basis of all the software on the phone, EMUI is just the launcher software which runs on Android.

Notice the video description says EMUI 4.0 (Android 6.0) Not the same phone but the same explanation of terms >

Hiya, just a couples of questions to those who've used the o2 refresh 'trick' in the past:

- what's the best contact number to call them to ask for a phone unlock?
- what's the best contact number to pay off phone and cancel everything?

I'd prefer to do both with o2 'chat' so that I've got a paper record trail, is this possible? Should be picking up phone tomorrow- excited!

Good luck to those who just missed out- I had the o2 basket as a web shortcut on my phone home screen, and I'd just check a coupl of times a day, was shocked myself when it said 'in stock'

I don't know about best but for my tab s2 I used the 0344 809 0202 number, got put through to the "thinking of leaving us bit, paid off the device balance, the transferred call to do unlock again (I'd applied on app and on website) then transferred me back to cancel the airtime. The unlock code came pretty much 24 hours later (3 times) and sim was cut off morning after the call.

As I say though, my method of checking was to initially put it in the basket whilst out of stock and just refresh the basket page to see if out of stock message went away, and it finally did! 13 Aug 16 #124
Oh sorry, I'd already called them and cancelled before I read your comment- I was a bit worried if I got a replacement it may take a while and put me over the 14 day 'cooling off period' and then I wouldn't be able to easily cancel if the the replacement turned out to be even worse! or if it was a good one, that they may penalise me when I cancelled the airtime- I'm still not entirely sure how the o2 refresh works- e.g if you can end the airtime at any time in the contract by paying off the device without penalty? Do you know?

Perhaps will try and call them again to ask for replacement, but guess it may be too late if the cancellation has been put in motion...

Hope none of you get the scratched one that I'm returning :disappointed:

Perfect

Perfect phones look like they've hardly spent any time out of the box. They're like brand new phones, just not in their original box.
They won't have blemishes of any shape or size. We install the latest operating system and you'll get a 12 month warranty to put your mind at ease."

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-P9-Spigen-Case-Rugged-Armor-Black-L06CS20376-/172243399905?hash=item281a81b4e1:g:dOYAAOSw3YNXYpSW

A shame to cover up such a good looking phone but I want to protect it from scratches....and hid the pink tinge!
edwin29
14 Aug 16 #129
It is the titanium grey. I was expecting a dark grey but it's very light and there's a faint pinkish tinge in the light. Doesn't bother me, I was just a bit surprised when the phone arrived.

14 Aug 16 #130
yeah same about the colour, definetly not titanium grey, mine unlocked as well, oh and I'm using the Spigen Rugged case. It is good. Anyway I like Spigen cases.

Does the back of the phone only have this pink tinge?

Can you tell me what colour(s) the front & sides are?
edwin29
14 Aug 16 #132
Yeah it's just the back and only noticable when light hits it. Don't let it put you off the phone, it's a great handset for the price.
Crossbow
14 Aug 16 #133
@edwin29 - I see, & the front is black & sides aluminium/silver, right?

Would've loved one but bought a P8 only a few months ago.
edwin29
16 Aug 16 1 #134
Yes front is black. Sides are same as the back but it's quite a thin phone so the colour changes aren't really that noticeable on the sides.

stuck between s6 and p9 can anyone help with why this would be better?
Crossbow
16 Aug 16 #136
Nothing much to separate them, but this will most likely have better battery life (due to lower resolution screen & larger capacity battery) & also has a MicroSD slot (up to 256Gb extra), which the S6 doesn't.

Also, the presence of dual rear cameras on this is going to pique my interest a lot more, even though the S6 could be the overall better camera for photos & video.

Their specs only compared HERE
Pondlife
16 Aug 16 #137
One thing to consider is that the s6 could be much older handset as it was out last year and this p9 is much more recent. As neither have readily user replaceable battery it's a plus for the p9.

The ois on the s6 is a big bonus. Oddly the s6 had longer talk time, web browsing and video playback times on gsm arenas battery tests.

guys did those who buy this get the original box?
edwin29
21 Aug 16 #141
I just got the handset. No box or USB cable.
Pondlife
22 Aug 16 #142
No. You never do.

Unlike the one above I did get a usb type C cable, it's tiny though so definitely need another.

22 Aug 16 #143
will o2 unlock it for free?
edwin29
22 Aug 16 #144
It might come unlocked, mine did.
Pondlife
22 Aug 16 #145
Yes, get that applied for before you pay off the device plan and end the airtime. You don't need to wait for it to be unlocked.

Though as above mine was unlocked anyway.

Got mine today, it came unlocked with USB type c and a plain box. I called o2 to pay off phone and as soon a i wanted to cancel contract the person on the call center was not happy. asking you only got the contract only for the phone. made me feel bad then. plus I got charged for a few days contact. Did anyone else had the same experience?
RoobyRoo
23 Aug 16 #149
I paid off the agreement one day then called back the next to disconnect. They did ask why so I made an excuse.

If you cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period and hadn't connected the sim you shouldn't have to pay anything. I had one month outstanding on my account so contacted them on live chat and had it confirmed the balance would be £0 within 14 days. Had an email yesterday stating my balance was now £343.07 so contacted them on live chat again, got it cleared again and am apparently in credit for £11 for the inconvenience.
