Your deal is actually £286 more outlay. It would only be £70 more after you send them your old laptop & all cashback is paid

Simple, put a second larger hard drive in the optical drive bay. Change the location of your desktop, documents folder to it.

superfast is a bit of an exaggeration but it's not a bad price
you get a cpu bench score of 2889 whereas my £302 deal gets you an i5 with a score of nearly 4000 - but that's obviously £70 more!

Hi, anyone know which option has better performance, this HP i3 or the Asus A6 below? Both coming in around the same price.
This Intel i3 is a much better CPU. The AMD is quad core so when running software optimized for 4 cores it comes fairly close to the i3 which is dual core with hyper-threading.
But as most software including the O/S is more impacted by single or dual core performance the Intel is miles better.
Thanks guys, helped a lot - will go with the i3 then!

decent for the avid user who just wants to browse etc. not for someone who wants to game/video edit etc.

Check reviews or the HP site for info on upgrading or even Crucial.
Whether you NEED more than 4GB depends on your usage patterns. Many home users don't USE more than 4GB.
What do you want to use it for?

I thought the same as Jamseh, just because although the SSD will be faster it will fill up a whole lot quicker than the 1TB discs that are pretty much standard on laptops these days. Life is too short to have to "manage" disc space!

does it have HDMI 2.0 or 1.8?

27 Jul 16#17
you could still get the laptop and buy a cheap new or used 2.5" HDD, use macrium reflect (free) to clone the drive and just pop it in. this way you'll always have the ssd as a good backup of the original system image should the hdd fail. oh, you'll probably need a cheap SATA to USB adaptor to hook it up for the cloning

Not bad laptops. I have 8GB and SSD and it's nice and quick. Shame you have to prise open the whole front panel if you want to upgrade.

That's true but SSD's aren't too expensive and it depends what your going to use it for too but for me it's not gonna be used a lot and most of what I need is stored in the cloud. I couldn't have a Chromebook or something similar with their horrible processors and tiny screens.

Can people give me their thoughts on how this compares, someone posted yesterday but no comments, SSD is tempting but swayed more to 2TB standard disc and more memory

£20 less might swing it now.

Gone for it... C&C to my local Tesco Express tomorrow. Had £4 in Clubcard vouchers too, so got it for £225.
Have 8GB of RAM from my old laptop which died a few weeks ago... Should be able to use it in this, its DDR3, just slightly lower frequency than this has (1333MHz instead of 1600MHz in the HP).... should be ok though, right?
The 128 SSD is no biggy, as I have a WD Passport anyway, so the main HD on this will be for programs, and minor storage.

Looks very similar spec apart from the RAM and the Hard Drive.
SSD accesses data much quicker and the laptop/pc boots a lot quicker than with traditional hard drives. They are basically like big memory sticks, whereas traditional drives are full of mechanical moving parts, and an actual disc which is susceptable to damage.
The extra RAM will allows the laptop to run multiple memory intensive programs alongside each other.
Only you/your son can decide whether the extra space of a traditional drive is better than a smaller drive, that will help the laptop run quicker, and whether thats worth the extra £60 to you/your son.

Hence my use of the term 'depends on your usage patterns' as not everyone multi-tasks much or uses memory hungry applications.
If they don't then upgrading above 4GB is pointless.
