Plus HP laptops have a tendency to break down in my experience, so if that happens shortly after the guarantee expires it could be false economy.

Nonsense. I have had my DV6 laptop for 8 years and has neither broken down or had a heart attack. It does use an Intel processor though. I went over to HP after suffering some horrendous problems with Dell.
PS I have worked in the computer world since 1978 and my 1st PC was A Zilog Z80 also from 1978. So there...

Take a bow. You sound like the sort of person I need to ask advice from. Please help me.

In my opinion people like to compare what are budget brand laptops vs higher quality units.
DV6s were sorta mid range laptops (I think), this is a budget laptop so they aren't particularly comparable.
Nothing wrong with it, just most budget laptops around this price point are going to be 'more likely' to break.

It's probably quicker than the e series CPU too.
Agree, nowt wrong with HP in my experience, have several servers and my main laptop is a spectre x360.
Saying that, this is £160, I wouldn't expect it to last as long as my laptop if it were in daily 10hr use, but I doubt many people would use this as their main device

Have been using HP PC and laptop and they are so reliable. My laptop dropped the other day while streaming and we just picked it up and carry on. No problem at all.

It might be a quad core but it's a really poor quad core. Less powerful than desktop CPUs of 10 years ago.
