It would be great if they refunded sellers who have to put up with nuisance buyers as well. For those of you that don't know, they take a non-refundable 20p each time a seller has to refund. Over the years these add up and as the bar for returning items have dropped, I've found return increased. Now, dear trolls, please go lightly.

One point to note....they do not refund postage on defective items. I didn't know this until after i'd attempted a claim after i'd paid £12 in postage & they informed me that its up to a seller to refund defective items postage. Tip....if an item is defective just tell Paypal that you've changed your mind about the item or you'll lose out.

I've never been charged 20p for refunding through ebay.

Presumably all payment processors charge fees for transactions, otherwise wouldnt be in business

Thanks for this, I never had any idea they did this, so this has helped me out. Returned an item the other day and I can now claim the courier cost back. I have another item to return this week to, so that will be great again..

I just used this to return a large item (£12.50 postage) and despite the item being defective, they covered it no problem and I got the money back extremely quickly to be fair, within a few days of me submitting the request. They were really good and I couldn't be happier it has been extended as it helps to make return (of large items especially) much less daunting.

That said it was a Paypal (rather than eBay) case, which might make a difference as I think on eBay if a seller agrees to the return of a defective item eBay actually just pull the cost of postage out of the sellers account and give the buyer a 'free' returns label so obviously in that case this wouldn't be needed....
trevcjohnson to dodgydave69
11 Jul 16 2 #47
That makes sense because legally in the UK the seller is responsible for return postage when the item is defective.
S41FUR to dodgydave69
12 Jul 16 #50
Don't understand why the seller didn't pay for returns for the defective item in the first place? Never heard of the seller not willing to fork for defective items...if anything Ebay will step in and help.

The biggest scums in the world and yet they get away with their theft day after day ... Nobody still managed to pin them down that on what basis they're allowed to block people's money for 180 days and not even pay a penny of interest on it! Everyone who's using them is making these thieves stronger and more arrogant ... Yes that's my personal view that's all!

11 Jul 16 2 #24
Terrible company ? Here we go again with the conspiracy theories.

If they blocked your money or asked for ID then surely it's a two way street and there has to be a reason for it. I've used paypal for years, had times where I've been critical but mostly it's one of the better online services.

Oh this could be useful, I wanted to partially return a clothes order I made but the shoes were so heavy to post I have been debating just trying to sell them on instead, but this would work instead. However I can't figure out where to request a return on paypal do I have to open a dispute?

I presume you can shop on any website taking PayPal as a payment method, it's not just eBay right?
J4GG4
11 Jul 16 1 #28
Not so long ago i sold something via Paypal, listed clearly with pictures and listed clearly what it comes with.

The buyer complained that it didn't come with a completely different item that was NOT listed in the picture or description, but actually listed on a separate listing which costs an additional £30.

He opened a dispute after endless threats, i told him to return it all and i will happily refund him. He did not want to return it and even told me he will not return it. Anyway, cut a long story short...Paypal refunded him £30 from Paypals OWN pocket and the dispute was closed. Although i did not lose out, i think Paypal really are ridiculous. They support fraudsters who play the system to get exactly what they want PLUS MORE.
merk23
11 Jul 16 1 #29
Bit confused about this tbh. I activated this the first time around. I've returned a defective item since then using the standard eBay returns procedure where it gets me to print off a return label which was scanned at the post office with no extra payment, then I received back the full amount I'd paid for the item including p&p. Am I missing something?
BrianM to merk23
11 Jul 16 1 #32
You have missed the fact that eBay will (after a week or so in my case) CHARGE YOU for the return postage label from your PayPal Account - yes you do not have to pay at the Post Office but it is not a free service!
scott1986
11 Jul 16 #30
Can this be used on eBay
BrianM
11 Jul 16 #31
1) I made the mistake of saying that the item was defective - and had to convince them that what I REALLY meant was "not what I had expected"

2) They asked for a LOT of detail - proof of posting, proof of purchase, etc. etc.

After a few emails to sort everything out they finally paid up!

some idiot claimed an item i sold was faulty, i point blank refused to accept a return or refund as i knew it wasn't. ebay then issued them a returns label anyway, the item came back but i didn't end up paying for the return. never got my original postage cost back though :disappointed:

Where can you confirm this is activated on your account? I activated it in the get deal link but I want to double check when logging in on PayPal's normal website that it's gone through.

Edit - I found it, just click activate again and it will tell you if the account is already signed up.

Which is fine except for all the idiots who are too stupid to use remotely technical items (e.g. a mobile phone) and then just return it as defective anyway, you can't argue this point with eBay or PayPal so just lump it. Doesn't matter if you have proof of 'reasonable doubt', e.g. showing you've relisted the item you've had returned immediately. I cannot see how everyone is saying this is a good thing? I actually like PayPal as they are generally good for business but this 'postage refund' offer just encourages the worst people in society to abuse online and distance sellers even more than they already do - it relies on the 'honour system' but that means nothing when buyers assume that everyone on eBay is a rich, faceless corporation who can afford to be done over...

shame amazon doesn't do this for their marketplace sellers, bought a hoody it arrived too large was told i had to pay postage back by recorded delivery (even though they sent standard) cost £5 instead of refunding they proceeded to send me the correct size which was yet the wrong size again meaning i had to pay another £5 to send it back and 3rd time lucky nope they have now sent me xxxxS which they don't even list that they have for sale so im nearly out of pocket 3x of what the hoody cost to buy in the first place and every time they just send 2nd class standard to me :/

it would be like buying a car then saying it doesn't work as you don't know how to drive it!

I just returned a faulty printer purchased through eBay. The business seller was useless and didn't reply to any of my emails - I opened a case which was then escalated as he didn't reply and I was told to return to seller. Anyway, organised a UPS collection and it was left at an access point for weeks (they tried to deliver to his 'business' address but he wasn't present. I paid for the return. Didn't receive the cost of postage so phoned PP and they did finally refund for the faulty goods. I just told them it's not fair it's my responsibility to pay for a return from a business seller so they decided to repay me once I sent them the invoice by email for the UPS parcel.

So even for faulty items you can, and should, still be refunded.
Chasloyal to cheaperbythe12
