Was going to go for this deal the other day at jessops but the deal ended just as I went to purchase it.Lucky for me the next day argos was doing the same deal.
The price is £399.99 but canon are offering £40 cash back and 100gb of cloud storage, also argos are giving away a free canon bag worth £39.99,but you must scroll down to the offers and make sure you add to the basket the deal that is for the camera AND bag.

All sounds good : )
If you get time post up some sample pictures, would be good to see the results from all the different lenses.
Are you buying any lens hoods ?
Why do I get this feeling that a relatively cheap camera will end up costing me a small fortune by the time I've finished buying all the extras lol ,the camera is just the tip of the iceberg

Picked up the 50mm for £60 on ebay but it was not the STM version. Worth mentioning If you are going to use it for video then I would definitely pay the extra and get the STM lens, there is definitely more noise from it in operation compared to the supplied STM 18-55mm. if only really using the 50mm for stills then the older version will give just as good image quality and plenty used examples on ebay. I understand the practically silent autofocus operation in video mode is the major advantage of the STM units if this is your thing. The 50mm lens definitely seems to have legendary status with Canon owners.
Managed to get a 55-250mm STM lens off ebay for £120, supposedly unused, hopefully arriving tomorrow so will see.
Having invested properly in buying the 2 additional quality lenses above one other thing I'm going to try purely out of interest is one of the basic macro/wide angle lens converters off Amazon. These are just basic & screw onto an existing lens. No great expectations of the performance & certainly not a substitute for a proper macro lens but at £20.00 for the Polaroid 58mm one (& £3.00 for a 52mm/58mm step ring so I can swap it about) I'm happy to give it a bash. Reviews as always are a bit mixed but generally people seem to have bought them with the same outlook as me and pleased enough with the results, I was really only thinking about the macro function but the wide angle aspect does look interesting having watched a few Youtube reviews

Well I've not even opened the box yet lol
Funny you should mention lenses as I've been looking at getting some and the two I've decided to get are the two you have just mentioned.
I really want to get a good depth of field with close up subjects and the 50mm 1.8 stm lens seems to tick that box.If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for yours ? Amazon had them for £91 the other day but have now gone up a bit.

You did well there, How you getting on with it so far?
I've not really had a proper chance to get going with it yet. Having read a rake of reviews prior to buying the Canon I've bought a 2nd hand 50mm 1.8 lens (seems to be a highly regarded addition) also looking at getting a 55-250mm Zoom lens which by all accounts all together should generally cover most possible scenarios. Also as recommended by many I bought a UV filter to for the supplied kit lens (I went for a Hoya 58mmm on Amazon for about £8.00) - simply screws directly onto the lens and definitely seems a good idea to improve protection of the lens

Fair play for getting John Lewis to price match it AND get the bag. When I contacted them they said they would only price match but would not give me the free bag : (
As i said above,it worked out best for me in the end as I ended up getting an extra 10% off at Argos,so it's now only set me back £319

I wouldn't say 18MP is ancient, and if you think so then why does the new Nikon D5 "only" have 20.8mp. I still have my legendary 5D, with "only" 12mp, and produces some of the best images that you can get from a camera. For most people (shooting JPEG OR AUTO) you would even be able to get away with a 12 year old Nikon D70, only 6mp! People now think that mp is everything but unless you are printing in A1 or a billboard you don't need anything more than 6MP.

Biggunspaul
26 Jul 161#36
Yes Jessops and John Lewis will price match it.I know this because I done it myself when the offer ended with Jessops.
John Lewis however stated that they would not match the offer of the free bag, only match the camera price, but I had to buy the camera and then call them up and get the difference refunded back to me.
Jessops said they would match the price and their deal does come with a bag and 2 year warranty, but they took nearly 24 hours to get back to me and then said I had to ring up to place the order.
I personally wanted to pick one up from a store that day and didn't really want to order online.Plus for me Argos is only just up the road and I like their 30 day money back guarantee,so at lest I can have a play and see what's it's like.
Just by chance that same day my Mrs was given a 10% off any purchase voucher from Argos because they ballsed up an order of hers,so I ended up paying £359.99 on the day and after the cash back it will only have cost me £319.99
One other thing for me is that if I keep the camera I may take out the accidental damage cover/warranty,Argos works out £10 cheaper than Jessops 3 year cover and Argos covers for 4 years.

Probably not as the 400D is 10 megapixel. I've never used on so I can't compare tbh.
I'm comparing the 700D to its peers, Nikons, Sonys and Fujis, they all have better sensors.
I use a EOSM which has the same sensor, I really like it but only paid 150 for it.
I personally wouldn't pay 360 for this generation of camera.

26 Jul 16#31
Can't really speak for the camera, never owned a 700d.
If anyone gets this, it's definitely worth getting rid of the crap bag that comes with it, or at least covering the canon logo.
Granted, a DSLR always attracts attention, but there's nothing worse than walking around with a bag that screams "CAMERA"
Surely that's down to the lens or user inexperience? I used to get poor low light on my EOS400 until I learned how to use it off of AUTO, surely this would eclipse the 400?
Biggunspaul
26 Jul 16#27
Still probably works out cheaper to buy this deal and sell the lens on,as it's only costing £30 more to have it from Argos with lens and bag over the lowest priced body only deal.
I'm sure the bag and lens would sell for far more than £30
Pondlife
26 Jul 16#26
They probably wouldn't need one with basic lens again then
Biggunspaul
26 Jul 161#25
Just goes to show how good this deal is as if you were to buy the body from that company and then add the lens that they sell for £115 and it comes up to £444 and that's after cash back, and it also doesn't come with a free canon bag, where Argos works out to be £84 cheaper and you get the canon bag for free which normally costs £40
Biggunspaul
26 Jul 16#24
If you actually search on that site for the camera with the lens it comes back with Argos being the cheapest -
I thought that was probably what you meant, but I thought I'd just check as I know D700 is also a model number for a Nikon.

Though the sensor isn't that bad in real life use - see the comparison by ExpertReviews between the 18MP 700D vs the 24MP 5200D (itself an upgrade to the 3300D) in my comment above. They found the 700D sensor was capable of resolving far greater detail in JPEGs compared to the 5200D sensor.
The RAWs were a lot closer in detail, pointing to inferior/ over-aggressive image processing in the Nikon. If you don't have hours to spend adjusting your RAWs or do a lot of low light shooting, I'd actually plump for the 700D over the 3300D given better JPEG detail out of the camera, superior AF, articulating screen, more on-body camera controls etc.

why not Nikon D3300?
Its lighter, newer, more screen resolution (24MP vs 18 MP), better ISO performance and above all its cheaper.

Some people prefer Canon. I have been using both systems from the time of the Nikon D70 and Canon EOS 10D and in terms of prices of lenses, Canon usually comes out cheaper e.g. the fast 1.8F lens is only £60 vs triple for the Nikon equivalent. In terms of performance, I'd say it's as much a matter of user preference as of actual differences in performance.
Do note that the 700D's 9 focus points are all of the cross-type variety, compared to only 3 of the 11 in the D3300 - I know which one will give me faster auto focus in a bind!!
Also do note resolution isn't everything - the lower resolution 18MP sensor in the EOS700D has been reviewed to be capable of resolving better detail than the 24MP sensor in the Nikon D5200 (itself a superior camera to the D3300):
The EOS700D is a superb camera; apart all 9 of the focus points being of the cross-type variety, it also has a touch screen 1.04K flip out LCD screen (a huge plus when you're shooting in Live View, say over the heads of the crowd at a festival!), phase detection auto focus in video mode, and HDR in camera - these features are missing in the Nikon D3300. The latter however has several features going for it over the Canon, including better low noise high ISO performance, better colour depth, higher native sensor resolution, 8 vs 5 FPS continuous shooting etc.

26 Jul 16#13
Best part is the articulating touchscreen - as said above.
Great price for an entry-level camera. If looking to get into DSLR photography this is an excellent starting point. The articulating touchscreen is superb - very intuitive and allows you to use Live View without having to get down on your hands & knees / belly - wish they'd implement that in the Pro models...
It's not a worthwhile upgrade from anything newer than the 450D IMO.
