+1 great kit. You'll need more remotes though as using the panel isn't the easiest. We use a remote to turn on/off at night/in the morning and when we come and go from the house. This being a 'Telecommunication' kit, will ring you if the alarm is triggered when you're out.

Could you not use rechargeable batteries and the transformer? They'd still need replacing at some point obviously but it would get around the power failure issue. Just a thought.

I've got this unit and to avoid climbing ladders to change batteries I've taken a lead from the box to an internal battery pack. For now, I have some spare batteries, however, when they have gone I plan to connect it to the mains using step-down transformer. Don't see why it shouldn't work. It could be argued that in the event of a power failure the external alarm wont function. I'll take my chances on that.

Nothing to hack you just change the phone number in the setup from their phone number to your own.
I only had a year free then cancelled but they kept providing the service all these years without charge, I think I have had about 10 years free - BT sold it to Intamac who is the manufacturer a long time ago.

Intamac only charge £1.99 a month though so its worth it for the back end service they provide.

if you buy remote then bingo, you don't need any access to it.

+1 - it is great kit. I have it for 2 years and have no complains. But you are wrong - the panel is not VERY LOUD! it is VERY VERY LOUD!!

Well looks like people on this thread are happy with the system. might just buy it and use it when the refurb is being done.

The control panel needs to be connected to the 3 pin socket (and the telephone line if you want it to ring you when the alarm is triggered).

I was in a similar position to others in that I have no easily accessible socket near my front door where I wanted the panel to go. I bought a longer PSU lead to get round the issue.

I also have a boxed VP1000 I was thinking of fitting?

Can these be easily hacked so I don't have to pay BT for monitoring. I guess I can put my mobile in as a prefix? Or is it simpler than that.

Worth me putting in the BT unit, or scrapping it and buying the yale?

Does this compare to a wireless system that you'd get an installer to do for maybe £400?

New panel, bell, pirs and contacts won't cost more that £100 and be much more stable, and no expensive batteries to replace every 24 months

The frequency might be the same, but language not. Suggest looking at the texecom richocet range. Kits are quite cheap, and much better technology than this Yale. You'll get much better support and range of detectors with texecom too.

severely tempted by this offer. doing a house refurb which has a alarm but could do with a upgrade.

It does with the Pet friendly PIR's. Although a room where we have a Pet friendly PIR that includes a dining table and stairs has triggered the alarm - but then I just took that one out of the group and they do say that stairs are an issue with Pet friendly PIR's.

Excellent kit and easy to install and maintain. You get warning bleeps when batteries go low - which is every few years.

I bought the kit when we got our house in Feb. It is nice. But I do not need the 2 motion sensors, because I have CCTVs. They are brand new. If anyone wants it, pay me whatever you think they worth and you can take them. (PS I am in London)

yes it does, and to connect to the phone line it needs to be near one of those too. One option is to fit the panel in a discrete position and then buy a separate remote keypad that runs on batteries that can be fitted wherever you want.
The key fob included does not require line of sight, it operates wirelessly (so you can arm / disarm outside the house for example)

Does the alarm panel need to be plugged into a 3 pin electrical socket? Ideally the panel would have to be plugged in the hall way where I can use the key fob to turn off the alarm as I enter the house (I am assuming this is line of sight remote).

I don't have an electrical socket that's conveniently located in the hallway

I have a BT VP1000 which is a rebadged Intermec which run on 868Mhz and this Yale kit runs on 868Mhz also.

Any idea if all the kit I already have fitted will be compatible with this? It would be good to just change the panel and link all the PIRs, contacts, remotes and bell boxes to new panel without having to buy and fit new.

can't comment on this particular model but i have the slightly older version. i purchased some pet friendly PIR units that are supposed to only pick up larger shapes but my cat still triggers them.

Yes you can buy special PIR's which you can add into the system which omit pets movements, no idea how good these are as we don't have pets

I replace all the batteries once a year and write the date I changed them on a small sticky tab that I place on the main control panel bottom right

The alarm is fantastic but we too purchased ours from Ironmongerydirect when it was on a deal :smiley:

I've screwed the contacts into the White PVC on our doors and when we move I'll just remove them and fill the tiny holes with white sealant :wink:

Admittedly, you'd need to peel the contacts from your windows and doors to replace the simple cheap lithium batteries, then you'd probably need to try and re-stick them. They do come with screws, but I didn't like the idea of screwing holes in my PVC windows and door frames.

mine has been in operation for the 3rd year and once I had to change batteries on the door signal. It will warn you prior it needs to be replaced.

No, it can't be hard wired.

My alarm box is about 20m from the control panel and it gets about 70% signal (which is good). Great alarm system though, easy to setup and works perfectly with accessories. I prefer the door contacts to the room sensors which take a few seconds to activate the alarm after you've walked in the room and they don't seem to cover the whole room in my house anyway.

How often do batteries have to be replaced in the individual units.
