A double-bill of sci-fi horror. In John Carpenter's 'The Thing' (1982), a research team in the Antarctic, led by R.J. MacReady (Kurt Russell), discovers a spaceship buried beneath the ice, and becomes terrorised by the shape-changing monster that is housed within. In the 2011 prequel, the action is set on a research site in Antarctica three days before the action of the original story, the film focusing on the Norwegian camps that were the initial target of the alien invasion. When they discover an alien spacecraft on the site, science graduate Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and experienced researcher Dr Sander Halvorson (Ulrich Thomsen) disagree about how to act. When Dr Halvorson refuses to abandon his research, Kate teams up with tough Vietnam veteran Sam Carter (Joel Edgerton) to pursue the alien intruders by helicopter.

I would disagree with both above commenters, 2011 version, while not a patch on the original, is a nice little addition. Shame they had to use CGI and not the intended practical effects - even the director bemoaned this - but still a good solid Thing film.

Only way to get the original film on Blu-ray - it's OOP everywhere on its own! The remake/reboot is terrible, but worth it just for the original. That said, I have a feeling Arrow might be negotiating a Blu-ray release (Shout! in the US have one lined up, so Arrow could well do the same over here).

Yep, 1st film a classic, 2nd a waste of time as it offers nothing new that the first already did better.

Absolutely agree with you 100%! Not a bad prequel at all but still the original is still a classic. Shame they used CGI. Hopefully they'll release a version with the original effects

Just unable to watch as it scares me to death. I did watch the remake not scary.

I loved the first film but it's not included in this set. The second, the John Carpenter one is great, if a little gory. The third is a bit of a pointless remake

Also, I like how the end of the 2011 film blends with the beginning of the 1982 film.
