does anybody know if Costsco warranty is transferable?
I bought tv from a friend and he has give me original VAT receipt with tv. He also has given me his hand written receipt with bank details etc.....

Only the wording of the warranty can help you. Some warranties allow transfers like a cars for example, others don't and state non transferable. As you werent a party to the original contract, or as a named third party under the rights of third party act you have no rights under consumer law.

I know you have to keep your Costco membership open or it voids your warranty, so I'm guessing that it probably wouldn't be transferable

Here is the extended warranty terms from Costco online. I think the clause D applies to you. So if not a member, it might not transfer. Having said that I find costco customer care is brilliant. I got a faulty CCTV camera which they return with full money back some 6 months after purchase, I had lost my reciept as well, they just found details using my membership details. I would recommend becoming a member if you can.

No it has to be a Costco Card Holder that deals with any warranty claims, not transferable to 3rdparty. Costco Extended warranty has always been that way. Even as the original purchaser if you end your card membership the warranty expires.

Its not mentioned if warranty is transferable or not, but as far as I know, all other companies like sony, LG etc cover you with warranty if you have original VAT receipt?
I was wondering if anybody has any experience with costsco

19 Jun 16#5
If it's not mentioned then you can't transfer, such guarantees are explicit in what they cover. You're at the mercy of Costco who are unlikely to under take any future issue unless they are obliged to. Best you can do is write to them and ask. If you do so though they will then be aware their contact with your friend is at an end as they sold it to you.
If you've got the money buy an oled imo

Thanks Snoopy, what is an imo? I will defo have a read through AV forums. Another thing I would like to compare is the OS, currently I own 49 LG with SmartOS, which I believe is incredible, would like to find out how the Sony OS compares.

cold. this price for this TV is not a special deal. I picked up the better one for less at Xmas just gone and that went down to 1700 since then as it got discontinued. http://kagoo.co.uk/tvs/sony-kd-65x9305
if you shop around you will find this for less as summer sales start
also I can tell you the android os on this TV is very good. allows you to installed kodi, showbox, etc
finally oled is definitely better but most reviews on the LG oled put me off. Panasonic and some others are doing oleds again now so check the equivalents of those if you're willing to spend that kind of money

Best TV bar none, only beaten by the Signature OLED LG TVs....
This TV beats any manufacturer offering hands down, with only the Panny 58" £2.8K set being comparable.
In addition, this wipes the floor with any LCD TV out as well as shaming some of LGs early 1st Gen OLEDs.
Word of caution, don't be tempted by any Sony Soundbars, they are worse than the Built-in ones....

I dont think that you do, there was a thread on AVForums asking this same question. The OP of that thread did 'as a precaution' - re-join when there was a need to return the TV but common sense would dictate that the warranty was given when a valid membership was active and that should be good enough - It would for sure say on the T&C of the warranty that it would need to be maintained but it doesnt.

19 Jun 16#15
You're right. Once you purchase an item, the warranty is live, an expired membership does not affect warranty whatsoever.

yes you are right. Since warranty is included in price at time of purchase and there is a valid proof of purchase from Costco (original VAT) receipt with extend five years warranty paid, there should not be a problem. One of my close family member has Costco membership card. (I bought this tv with original receipt from a friend, he is willing to help me but he travel abroad a lot)
Yes you guys are right. After Amazon, Costco customer service has a good name but I want to know your thoughts and experience.

Excellent Tv and even better at this price. Bought mine last week and although I got a sound bar bundled in this still works out £250 cheaper. The sound bar makes up for the poor sound of the built in speakers so unlike the other poster I would recommend a sound bar/subwoofer combo.
Sharpharp
19 Jun 16#29
LOL, you have no premise in your post, you're TV is last years old technology, so no comparison. The only decent Soundbar is the ST9, the RT9 is the worst out of the lot with Sync issues  but it's to see at least ur happy with ur lot

Costco Customer Service (quick version)
Bought Sammy 46" TV in 2012.
Went faulty in June 2016, repair company assessed the costs and Costco deemed beyond economical repair
Took Sammy TV back to Costco, FULL refund of £1499.00
Walked out of Costco with LG 65" 4K TV and paid £1560 for it (in other words £60 more).
No questions, no issues. They try for repair first obviously but due to age of TV was not feasible.

Yes you do need to go to school, software HDR is not 10-bit HDR (like this TV)... best enrol now if you want to make the September in-take

Your TV reaches around 320 Nits and has doesn't have full array local dimming. I wouldn't concern yourself with HDR yet (just like 99% of people on here).

I don't have a costco membership myself. Infact I don't have any memberships for trader stores.
What are you talking about there is no difference between HDR and 10 bit HDR?
I think that you are getting confused as the standard HDR that is available on ALL Sony models, from last year and this year, is HDR-10. It isnt like there are HDR and a separate HDR-10. You do see both terms used but they both refer to the same thing.
The other HDR variant is called Dolby Vision. DV is potentially better than HDR 10 but anything that contains DV will also contain a base layer of HDR 10. (So there is no format war between the HDR variants as some have mistakenly claimed.) The only DV sets so far are from LG (which also support HDR-10) and there are no DV UHD blurays yet.
GadgetHunter
19 Jun 16#41
Remember though that peak nits isnt necessarilly the most important aspect of HDR. It is also about having more detailed picture information in the dark part of scenes as well. HDR also uses a wider colour gamut and you will get that irrespective of how bright your set can go. HDR UHD blurays use the DCI-P3 colour space rather than the narrower rec709 of standard blurays. The 55x8505C manages 91% of the DCI-P3 colour space. (Nothing from last year or this year hits 100% of it.)
From my experience with HDR on LCDs though has been a mixed bag. The ones that I have raise their peak brightness by setting the back light to full when HDR content is detected. This does enable them to go very bright but also makes any backlight issues much more obvious. This is better if you have a full array local dimming set but there are not many of these around. This year there is the Panasonic DX902b, Samsung ks9500 and the Sony xd9405, which is only available at 75".

I got the 65 inch OLED last Thursday. Upgraded from. A LG PLASMA . Was it worth the extra cost, NO. I just cant seem to get settings right. Looked at Utube etc. The Vivid and Game settings are great but the people sort of move fast now and again. Like some sort of picture lag. Might also have sound issue but trying a new Optical tonight. Media streaming is just awful, Kodi for instance. I suppose if you are willing to keep on changing the different picture settings it is OK but why should you for an expensive TV
dappodan1
20 Jun 161#48
Thats a bummer, I'm looking forward at some point in the future to buying an OLED but if its not plug and play and requires continual tweaking that would put me right off

New OLED TVs come with a generic Expert Night and Day settings. These work pretty well and you can easily adjust the OLED light level to suit your room. However, as with all TVs, the settings can be improved upon. I got mine professionally calibrated (as I will with any expensive TV I buy in the future).
I haven't seen this TV but I wouldn't be comfortable parting with £2k+ for an edge lit LCD.

If you are considering £3.5k for last years 65ef950 then you will also want to consider this years LG 65B6. This years sets are a big step forwards in terms of image quality from last years models. (Brighter, better at coming out of black, less banding, etc.) The 65B6 is £4,299 generally and last week was discounted to £3,999 at Selfridges. So it appears that the price of this new model is starting to fall. The 65EF950 fell by something like £1,000 a few months after launch.

Such a shame that the gaming latency isn't great on this set. I'm itching to go 4K but want a Sony that can do HDR with good gaming performance. I wonder if this can be patched via firmware or is it going to be stuck at 51ms?

For gaming on a tv Samsung is the way to go, that said samsung picture quality reduces in game mode. 51ms is about 1 fps per second compared to a sammy 30ms response. I hav e a samsung which was a 1080p state of art in 2013 costing a bomb and I cant tell the difference between this sony and the samsung in terms of gaming 1080p

20 Jun 161#57
the avforums review states 37ms..
Using our Leo Bodnar tester we initially measured the XD9305 in our calibrated Cinema Pro mode with the local dimming off and got 63ms but as soon as we selected the Game mode that dropped to 37ms which should be low enough for all but the most demanding of gamers. However, you will need to make sure that the local dimming is off to actually get this kind of input lag because if you turn it on the the lag increases.
