Just a heads up - My Local convenience stores which took over from Morrisons Local last year are going into administration. Tomorrow everything will be reduced by 50% including alcohol but excluding baby formula, tobacco and pain killers. On Sunday everything will be reduced by 70%.
Happy shopping!

Morrisons said in a statement: “We are saddened and disappointed to learn that My Local is about to enter administration. We want to help our former colleagues who now work for My Local. We can therefore confirm that if no buyer is found, and stores close, we will welcome our former colleagues back to a job at Morrisons.”

Ok too start off with my back ground im a my local employee and my store has luckily been brought by co-op so my job is safe. But many staff which has transfered stores or been promoted too seperate store has been made redudant. Morrisons has said that they will be given interveiws. No offical job offers though. All management outside of the stores have been made redundant too like members of hr, area and regional managers and even trainers. there is about 1300 jobs lost maybe more

My daughters store is doing 10 items for £1 today. The fact they still have stuff to sell says to me that one of the reasons they went under was the stock - not selling the right stuff for their market, and holding too much in the store.

The MyLocal in Longwell Green ceases to trade at 7:30pm on Monday everything 70% off. Got £30 worth of shopping for £8 but not much left now! All staff lost their jobs. They have a sign saying that they are try into find a new supplier. The lady who works in there told me that all the shops except 2 will close so 128 to shut. However Morrison's have a lease agreement that says that if MyLocal collapses (which it has) the leases will go back to them however they will most likely not open the shops back up and this is only for some shops.

Re-visited the Birkenhead store earlier.
70% off today, although Spirits were all at 'set' prices depending upon size - £9.30 for 70cl, £6.50 (?) for 35cl and £4.50 for 20cl bottles. Spotted one lone bottle of Cointreau which scanned at £8
Thanks again, OP.

Regarding the alcohol there are set prices on the things you buy. 70p per large bottle of beer. 2.50 per bottle of wine. 2.50 per pack of 4 beers. 2.00 per pack of 4 cider cans. Spirits will be reduced down to a set price but not by a lot. Tobbacco is not being reduced and will be transferred to other stores that are not closing.

my local 'My Local' had 50% off everything including alcohol, but excluding tobacco today. Sadly no beers were left but i got 2 bottles of french brandy and wine for half price. was told tomorrow everything is 75%, which is good as their prices are rather high and even at 50% off it the same as other shops have on regular offers. but 75% will make a difference.
p.s.my local 'My Local' has been open only for half a year. before it was Morrisons Local, which had been opened for 3-4 month. when morrisons had closing down sale, everything was 50p and then 20p and finally 10p. BUt they sold everything out in one day (actually in half a day) but i managed to get 4 troleys full of food for about £50. BUt actually it is sad to see bussiness closing down:(

many cleared shelves in the freezers and cabinets in Birkenhead, though there were still plenty magnums at £3.39 for a box of 3, tins of salmon at over £3 and a lot of bottles of wine priced at £9.99 and higher..........................at those prices I am not surprised that this chain struggled to compete and survive.

I just can't understand how this business has failed. Tesco Express and Sainsbury's Local, even Little Waitrose stores are thriving.
What did Morrisons (and the new owners of My Local) do so wrong? Thought the small supermarket convenience store model worked well. Was it prices, logistics, too much competition, high rents?
Jonstonep1 to preecey
25 Jun 16#44
The convenience sector is a growth sector in terms of sales but not necessarily in terms of profit.
The future is definitely going to be the mini supermarkets around 3000 square feet but pressure on margins etc at the moment is intense.
More traditional slightly smaller convenience stores are facing a far more difficult future. The National Living Wage coupled with large reductions in sales for traditional lines such as cigs, news, and services such as Paypoint and ATM's is going to lead to 20 to 30% of smaller convenience stores going out of business over the next 10 years.

location, location, location. Morrisons were last in, the best spots have been taken. Tescos in particular (but also Sainsburys) have got it down to an art and now can rapidly get the best spots as they come up.
Butterbean to preecey
25 Jun 16#58
I think it was a supply issue. They were supplied by Nisa I think, which generally means high priced branded stuff or lower quality Heritage brand. Plus they struggled to get fresh produce at a decent price, so all in all they couldn't compete with the larger chains who are able to negotiate the best prices for all their stores including the smaller ones because of the quantities they buy.
I think all the staff are pretty upset, considering the first they heard about it was on Tuesday.
And the way some of the customers have behaved today hasn't helped. Verbally abusing staff because they can't have all the half price alcohol they want? Classy.

I can confirm that the store in Headingley (Leeds) has 50% off. Such a tiny store, absolutely packed with people buying loads of boxes of Walkers crisps (£1.50 for 30 packs).

It also includes 50% magazines which is good, especially on crafting ones as they are normally expensive + have things included

In Windermere the MyLocal store is just opposite from a Co-Op. The co-op have cheaper prices and more products whereas MyLocal was a lot more expensive compared to when it was a Morrison Local store. So for me the killer was the price hike on products which drove customers away.
It is now becoming a Sainsburys Local store so maybe things will improve.

I work part-time in a Tesco express attached to fuel. That's the key. We had a morrisons local (now mylocal obvs) open about 3 minutes away, with no fuel. We are a tiny tiny tiny store but still take 100k net profit a week without fuel which is comparable to a clothing store 15x our size. All about location and what you offer. Also I think when mylocal took over most of their products were either trash or highly overpriced. Meal deal for £4.50? Good one.

Beer is reduced, but only in line with legislation on minimum pricing, so most 12x packs £5.99

There is NO discount whatsoever on spirits. This is also due to legislation to that effect (apparently).
