I bought the 43inch hisense that Argos were selling cheap for my parents as their TV had stopped working. Very impressed with the picture quality and nearly as good as my own Sony Bravia. Only problem I've found is I have to keep explaining how to use it as they are both in their eighties. Whenever I pop round they always have it on regular BBC/itv rather than HD, and I keep saying "channels 101-105 not 1-5". Do they listen? Do they 4k!
Back on topic, great telly for the price.

HiSense TV's are Chinese, made in China by a Chinese company...
Sound like you got a TV that was headed for German retail but hit the UK instead..

First TV was cracked, looks like shoddy delivery, but managed to snag a used one from Amazon so I'm happy. The tv looks great for the money.
The only annoyance is when I plug my keyboard in I can't seem to input a full stop, which is preventing me from logging in to BT open wifi. Oh well, my router is coming soon!

Just received mine - completely smashed screen. Unfortunately the way they pack it they don't appear to include polystyrene protection for the lower half of the screen. One boot in the wrong place from a clumsy courier (read: Yodel) and it's wrecked. Gutted really as now there are no replacements left and I've missed out on the deal!
Probably not helped by the fact Yodel incorrectly sent the package from the Birmingham hub up to Tyne and Wear before realising they'd messed up and sent it back South. Really disappointed!

Yes and to be fair it's not relevant for TV source or 4k Blu-ray as that's encoded with 4:0:0 chroma anyway how are you enjoying the set?

22 Jun 16#147
Thanks for that detailed explanation, I think I somewhat get it. I'm guessing the further away I am sat the less blur etc can be seen, I hope. Received mine a few hours ago, happy enough with it for the price paid, however YouTube is not playing 4K video! Sound is OK, not as bad as some have said, Theatre mode seems to give best for a combination of audible speech and background sound in movies etc. I find it rather fast, especially when using SMART features. I have yet to hook up my Xbox 360 or try my own HD videos. Any help for playing 4K through YouTube appreciated, thanks!

great indepth explanation of the importance of 4.4.4 chroma when using as a monitor. i'm not informed enough to know whether this problem can be corrected by a firmware update or it's a hardware limitation but one thing is certain i won't be buying this tv as i mostly use my tv's as a monitor to stream online content and 4.4.4 chroma is a must.

Hi
If you'd ever done it you'd understand. I can have 4 1080p windows open at once on a 4k set and all are comfortably readable at normal text scaling. It's a massive aid to productivity.
burn2groundenquiries
22 Jun 161#144
You can't change the name of the ports unfortunately. There's a dedicated PC/Game mode but it still only supports 4:0:0 chroma which really is pretty shocking in the middle of 2016 that manufacturers are peddling us this crap. Especially an up-and-coming manufacturer that wants to take the world by storm! And as I said, half of the HDMI ports can't even handle 60hz!
That post is from 2013 saying how shocking it is manufacturers are doing it!
Bhav, 4:2:0 chroma basically means you have 4k resolution for brightness, but only 1080p resolution for colour. Or in other words, you can't go from blue to red in adjacent pixels or green to blue or whatever as colour information is only encoded every other pixel. Same applies vertically (the 0 means the row below get no colour information of their own). So a red pixel can't have a green pixel below it (unless it falls on the boundary).
As an example, if you have:
RGBRGB
GBRGBR
it would show as:
RRBBGG.
RRBBGG
As you can see, in six pixels on the bottom row, not one is the colour it should be and only one in two pixels on the top row are the colour they should be!
For games or graphics it's absolutely horrible and makes text (even white text on a black background) fuzzy. The worst thing is it's just blatant penny pinching. Yes this is a budget set, but it costs **** all to enable 4:4:4 chroma. Hisense would rather save a few cents a set and lose customers. I know I'm ranting, but I hate this crap that manufacturers think is acceptable. It isn't.
sirpercivalglyde
22 Jun 16#143
it may be a long shot and you proberbly have already done this but is it possible that you can change the name of the hdmi port you're using in the tv's settings? some tv let you change the port name to something like pc or similar in order to activate it as 4.4.4 chroma .i may be wrong but on modern tv's i think there is also only one hdmi port where it gives you the option to do this so check them all.

Just tested again and it gets worse. Not only will it not do 444 chroma, but this piece of junk can't even handle 422 chroma so everytime you connect a 4k sourceto it your losing massive amounts of quality. Incredibly poor Hisense.
burn2groundenquiries
21 Jun 16#138
Received mine. Utterly useless as a computer monitor as it does't do the basics of 4:4:4 chroma. It's an absolute disgrace that a big company in the middle of 2016 is still releasing utter junk like this. Half of the HDMI ports don't even do 60hz let alone 4:4:4 chroma so are completely useless. As a TV it's ok (but far inferior to the Samsung I looked at that was a little more) but this one's going back. Not impressed at all. I know Hisense are a budget brand but pretty much everything from Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic etc. etc. at least get the basics right.

Watching sky sports 1 sd now... Pretty standard for sky sports standard definition as I would have expected. Not experiencing any lag or ghosting to be honest though. Not got sports HD so would have to wait until I can watch the euros on bbc/it later to comment on the quality of sports on HD channels but sd is exactly as I expected, I would say it's a long way from being unwatchable though.

I'm in hampshire
I suspect that the couriers are not taking care of these boxes as they are not marked as fragile TVs
the packaging also appears to be poorly designed. the screen is protected by a small piece of standalone polystyrene, which if pressure is applied to it would distribute the pressure evenly against the LCD, rather than the bezel or other packaging, so I would think a good hard impact to that side of the box would cause the LCD to crack all around the bezel
hope amazon get this sorted soon, I was really looking forward to a 48inch 4k screen

no issues at all with amazon to return faulty goods
it was easy to book the return automatically, and also easy to web chat with a person in a call centre to have that extra special personal touch, i.e. confirm return courier at no cost to me, and 24hr turnaround
disappointed that I don't have the TV, but there was never any apprehension with not getting a refund

amazon sent a replacement out yesterday with delivery today, and collection of the damaged one
the replacement arrived, and the damaged one taken away

amazon have agreed to pick up the damaged replacement and refund the money
it appears that the remaining stock is put on hold for investigation because of complaints of damaged units

Just bought one of these and, to be honest, I don't like it. The picture keeps automatically adjusting its brightness and I can't seem to find a way to stop it. This tv has a great picture quality but it also has some problems. I watched a 4k video on netflix that has a perfect, smooth camera pan in it and the video was stuttering. The tv has a feature to correct this called 'ultra smooth motion' or something like that but it makes the video worse by introducing a lot of artifacting. This does not happen with 1080p videos and it works great with a ps4.

SD looks "OK" but nothing more than that. (On all these next gen TVs) The difference is made worse if you then watch HD - even broadcast HD which is only 1080i. If she watches a BluRay or streamed 4K movie & then watches an old show on a weak channel it will look even worse.
Add to that the additional screen size & your concerns are justified...

Nice but I don't have any 4k sources (I bought the Philips 4k from argos at xmas but decided to return it as soon as I got home). Plus I am gonna splash out on the Sony VR headset and a PS4 when a good deal turns up.
To be honest most of my sources are standard def or 720P. I have a 58 inch Panasonic plasma that I got off ebay for £295 (it was a £4000 telly back in 2008!) I am very happy with it, though I do worry about screen burn all the time. But wow the quality of this thing is superb, and the sound is also amazing, but it is very heavy and took some muscle and thinking to set it up. LCD are light as a feather.
As for watching 4K movies and just general gaming - seems good right?

So tempted :/ anyone have this exact model? Specs do look great. I want it for movies and gaming (see my other threads). This is only £35 more than the 43" version I was about to get from Argos. What to do? Any Amazon discount codes?

Picked up the 43" 43M3000 yesterday from Argos. overall happy with it for £299. Slight niggles for those that are bothered, EPG and changing between channels is a bit laggy. also not sure if its my basic aerial signal but notice very minot picture stutter when viewing freeview HD. That said 1080P mkv played crisp and clear from usb., 4K from youtube was crystal and overall for the money very pleased. would have gone 49" but maybe a tad excessive for kitchen/diner. :-)

well it's purely a personal preference and some people may not need the additional connections but apart from the extra inch the 3300 has an sp/dif connector which i would use. it also has a headphone connector which i beleive the 49m3000 doesn't have which, again, i would use. the 3300 has 2x10w speakers as opposed to the 2x8w speakers on the 49inch model. and according to the hisense website the 3300 has a built in subwoofer which the 49inchm3000 doesn't have. again, these are things that i would use but it all depends on the individual. if you're just looking at picture quality then they're identical as far as i can tell.

Don't know if these are like my Panasonic but had the same issue as you so on the Panasonic in the settings you can 'move' the channels. So I swapped the normal 1-5 with the 101-5 and bingo back to 'normal'

Firstly do you both know what the benefits of HDR are?
Secondly do you know that not all HDR is the same?
Thirdly, there is a standardised HDR version and products that meet this standard are branded with the Ultra HD Premium logo.
Hope this helps your decision.

No, it would say in the description if it was as that's a big feature. Need to spend a bit more to get hdr. Some reviews say that 4k TVs don't look that much better than 1080p without hdr.
It's a rabbit hole though as I now want quantum dot TV which gets you in the >£1,000 territory but meant to be closer to oled quality...
Tempted also for stream/cast/hevc, but my 8 year old panasonic plasma still going strong.

I wish Amazon would sort their reviews out. I'm not sure that any of the reviews actually relate to this model. The Top Positive and Top Critical reviews both relate to the 65" model. Other reviews are for the 50" and 55" models. The product description is also wrong stating.. "Product Description - The Hisense 49 inch UHD Smart LED TV has a 1080p screen resolution projects images in true-to-life with a crystal-clear colours."

Hisense would be perfect for everyone in my opinion very cheap and good quality build, if they could just solve the little problem with the sensor for the remote seems like its got to be pointed at in a straight line and just 10 meters away from the tv other than that I'd recommend them to anyone.

I sent my girlfriend to return the 55" Philips cow and come back with a 49" Panasonic like my brothers new one because it was just so much better, instead she came back with magic beans / the 55" version of this brand I'd never heard of. Point being I'm amazed with it, watching the last episode of Gotham on it was the same if not better than the Panasonic one saw as the benchmark. Brillaint TV at a bargain price, kinda like the Xiaomi phones.
Also Ps4 and Now tv look great on it (the Philips tv couldn't seem to stream very well), also tried my wii u on it, very nice colours

If you go into settings, set contrast near the maximum, brightness somewhere around the middle, colour saturation as high as it is possible without making the human skin tones too red, sharpness low and then switch off all the postprocessing that smoothens motion/enhances resolution (and makes everything look like a soap opera), then almost any tv will give you a good looking picture.

i have the 40 " of this and its a very good make german brand name they are the official sponsors of the euro 2016 along with 20 others no doubt but i found it very good only downside was the smart functions as its a german make is all german even if you switch it to english which is easy it still has a german app store instead of google play

I just stumbled upon it on AV forums thread I was reading on peoples reviews.
The only annoyance is when I plug my keyboard in I can't seem to input a full stop, which is preventing me from logging in to BT open wifi. Oh well, my router is coming soon!
Probably not helped by the fact Yodel incorrectly sent the package from the Birmingham hub up to Tyne and Wear before realising they'd messed up and sent it back South. Really disappointed!
If you'd ever done it you'd understand. I can have 4 1080p windows open at once on a 4k set and all are comfortably readable at normal text scaling. It's a massive aid to productivity.

It isn't.
the original impact seemed to be the size of a large grapefruit...that implies the same thing happened to both TVs,....or the same person maliciously caused the damage in the warehouse by punching them ?
I suspect that the couriers are not taking care of these boxes as they are not marked as fragile TVs
the packaging also appears to be poorly designed. the screen is protected by a small piece of standalone polystyrene, which if pressure is applied to it would distribute the pressure evenly against the LCD, rather than the bezel or other packaging, so I would think a good hard impact to that side of the box would cause the LCD to crack all around the bezel
hope amazon get this sorted soon, I was really looking forward to a 48inch 4k screen
it was easy to book the return automatically, and also easy to web chat with a person in a call centre to have that extra special personal touch, i.e. confirm return courier at no cost to me, and 24hr turnaround
disappointed that I don't have the TV, but there was never any apprehension with not getting a refund
amazon is completely safe to purchase from
Mine arrived yesterday as well XDPEXPRESS delivered it with a broken screen with a big circular punch like cricket ball hit it. It must be the same delivery/packaging incident? I am in Coventry by the way.
amazon sent a replacement out yesterday with delivery today, and collection of the damaged one
the replacement arrived, and the damaged one taken away
unfortunately, the replacement is also smashed and now there is no stock
amazon have agreed to pick up the damaged replacement and refund the money
it appears that the remaining stock is put on hold for investigation because of complaints of damaged units
4 units have been damaged from this thread alone...anyone else ?
Powered up to check and it's all fine. Now to get it up and running in time for the game tonight.
I had DPD rather than Yodel.
In all fairness from the bit of the screen I could see the picture quality was absolutely fantastic. And the sound wasn't tinny or anything as you may expect from lower cost units.
2 Years, there's a warranty card in the box to fill in
The general quality seems fantastic, i've got it hooked via ethernet and Netflix is brilliant, especially 4K, I'll have a look at viewing angle.
I'll have to stick with my 40" Sammy until another good deal comes up.
It's a good job Amazon has a good returns procedure.
Customer service says "can you wait until 23rd June before complaining about non-receipt of goods"....
Looks like Amazon are full of false promises.......
Add to that the additional screen size & your concerns are justified...

Anyway, having lots of Hisense written on the side of the field now doesn't change it is still new/unknown for most people.
Samsung rings a bell for most, Hisense? Not to me
Upscaling is never a good idea on LCD.
I expect the software to be full of bugs coming from a company that can't get a description right
I paid £410 for my 43" Samsung TV :disappointed:
Not happy with mine as it seems to have lag on non he channels and a blur round people's faces almost makes my eyes go funny can I change any settings ? Seems great on my Xbox but I was not happy Watching football with lag on itv (I was watching threw virgin box) I know I can install freeview but I'm not sure how to do that and indont have an Ariel do I need one sorry I'm a bit dumb when it comes to tv
As far as I know the best TVs for gaming are Samsung's and that Korean brand I've forgotten the name of (starts with a V)
(inclusive of 1 item, VAT & Standard Delivery)
Think I'll buy it on Prime and get it next day though, heat OP!
Edit: There's a also a Used(Like New) from Amazon Warehouse at - £318.72
I'm so fed up with my 49" Sony 4K as it takes ages just to turn on and change channel.
