This is a alternative to flying and for those that want something a little different for the school holidays. For those that don't enjoy flying and are local to Newcastle this doesn't seem a bad deal for £749 per person averaged out for 15 nights when you consider that the food is likely to be much better than any AI resort and there are kids clubs and entertainment etc. It's an inside cabin for 2 adults and 2 children, the itinerary looks pretty decent and they have plenty of entertainment for kids onboard.
You can add the AI drinks package on for £10pp per day which doesn't seem half bad but if you aren't a drinker then you still get tea and coffee etc included. You can book the package with drinks at the time of booking by selecting the Anchor package with drinks (best to do it then rather than add it on later so you get more cashback).
There is also 12% cashback which, if tracks is a nice £350+ back, not too bad at all!!

I've done this cruise with the family from Newcastle before. It's brilliant.

What is the age limit for 'children' pricing?

I tried to find this out but couldn't see it anywhere, you have to literally go through the booking process to see the final price entering every passengers date of birth! I used fake details and ages 8 and 9 so you may have to enter your info to see the final price.

I'd check but I think the price was for the extra 2 bunks not the age of the occupant.

I actually think children are between 2 and 17 yrs old! I just tried it with a 16 and 17 yr old and it was the same price :smirk:

Nice one - that'll be very popular with my surly teens.

Yeah I think it's a good option for teens and the AI option seems good value for £10.

I've gone in twice now but can't replicate your price - it's coming out around £4,500 for me... :disappointed:

When you get to stage two make sure you tick the box of the two fares that have red crosses in the box the Summer Anchor then at the next stage click the interior cabin. Just done this with two 17 yr olds and got the £2996 price.

I think the family rooms have bunk beds (for the 'kids') that fold away when not in use :stuck_out_tongue:

Shockingly poor value IMO. I can't believe anyone would consider this at all.

I guess if you compare it to what you can get not in school holidays then you will always find cheaper, same with any holiday. Outside of school holidays thus cruise would probably be half this price! When you consider that flights to Spain (Lanzarote, Tenerife etc) for a family of 4 from the North with luggage around this time (school hols) can be well over £800. Compare the food and on board entertainment which is likely to be considerably better than AI resorts and I don't think it's too bad for the time of year. The good thing here is the age of the 'kids' too, for most conventional holidays you'd be paying adult fares for teenagers so this is when it may appeal to some more than others.

All food included, and the food is excellent. Free kids clubs in school holidays. It's a really good price for what you get.

Yes sometimes two cabins can be better value than a family cabin of 4 if your kids are old enough to share or 1 adult in each cabin. You probably want to ensure you are next to one another though.
I would always check drinks costs and packages though as if this is important to you it could make a huge difference in price. I don't think Cunard for example, do an AI package (may be wrong).

Nice to see deals from Port of Tyne. Not for me personally, I've paid similar for a fortnight AI in a Gouves water park hotel. Mid August. I'd rather be safe round a pool day in day.
Each to their own.

we werent together but kids are old enough-around 10 doors away..and they do a package (or two) but Cunard are not bothered if you take drinks on...msc do packages (including kids drinks vouchers) but i found my kids were happy with juices and didnt even use the vouchers!
i was told fred olsen was more for old people...but no experience..i was also told cunard not really for kids but mine loved it! (Queen Victoria (twice cruised) is my gsons fave ship! )

It's a good deal for the school holidays and a northern departure however Fred Olsen ships don't have the latest entertainment /activities that other big lines do, their ships are older and attract a more elderly clientele than some other lines so there might not be that many kids onboard.
