I'm also looking at the 100 piece. I noticed the separate packs state HSS for the metal bits and the 100 piece set doesn't. But I'm no drill bit expert so I don't know if you can get "none HSS" metal drill bits?

If people want a bigger set i would go for these from my other deal i just posted
still at screwfix, 98pcs , down from £40 to £25, seems to me these will be better than that plastic cased mega everything pack.
Thanks for all the heat people, this deal is boiling now ! :sunglasses:

Mega deal, just ordered for collection. Worth it just for those jobs you don't want to use your expensive drill bits for.

ok so did some research on HSS as I have no clue either:
"High speed steel (HSS) is a form of tool steel; HSS bits are hard, and much more resistant to heat than high carbon steel. They can be used to drill metal, hardwood, and most other materials at greater cutting speeds than carbon steel bits, and have largely replaced carbon steels."
I'd assume that the 100 piece are a lower quality steel than what you get in these packs.
Having read through the comments for the 100 piece on screw fix aswll, I get the impression that their a decent option for your average DYI-er/low usage but not for serious graft.

One of the TV shopping channels now and again sells diamond tip drill set for about £35
with a life time guarantee . The Demo shows drilling into anvils . You can also drill through steel, brick, and wood in layers at the same time, without changing to separate drill bits for each .
Although these sets at first seem expensive , in the long run they are cheap . The amount of drills you go through on conventional types ? As anyone who has tried to put up a curtain rail and had to drill into a lintel will know !

Thanks. The roll mat one the OP linked to says HSS for the metal bits:

Depends what you mean by "cheap" but I've been using 2 of these (one as a drill, one as a screwdriver) for over 7 years since they came out (the 1st version - this is the 2nd series). Tough and reliable enough for home DIY use - I used them to prep the house for selling and in the new house a tonne after moving & still doing so. There's a reason it's Amazons number 1 best seller. Still no problems & thoroughly recommend them. Not the "professional" blue range but do a good job in most situations around the home.

This set doesn't come with a 7mm masonry bit which is a tad annoying. 7mm = brown wall plugs

They have loads In and around Nottingham, my 8p quidco for what it's worth tracked within hours as well
The 100 piece set does not have 10mm drill pieces.

Yeah, why do they do that? I have the masonry set and only ever used the 6mm a few times. I had to buy a separate 7mm bit which i have used countless times.
I posted it twice and both times it was removed and I received a message telling me that I wasn't allowed to post personal items. When I posted it in the for sale section It was removed as they said it looked like a business post...

Don't think so, the extreme ones have a defined point on the tip of the bit to stop them skating around.

I pretty much use the 5,6 and 8 sizes exclusively now since switching to Fischer wall plugs. Their SX range for hard masonry are really well designed, and their UX range for everything else are also very versatile. Much more expensive though!!

Probably to make you buy a 7mm bit separately, or another set when you realise it's annoying to carry around a set + a spare drill bit.
Personally I think masonry sets are a bit pointless (double pun?), who's ever used a 4mm or 5mm masonry bit? I'd buy 2 x 6mm (red plugs), 2 x 7mm (brown plugs), 1 x 8mm (blue plugs) and 1 x 10mm bit (grey plug).
Grab a multi pack of Uno wall plugs that include those 4 sizes. Now you've got a plug + drill bit for every screw size. Job done.

I was wondering who needs all those drill bits that come in sets, half dont get used and cheap ones break then your left with an odd set.
I like your way of thinking, better drill bits for the jobs you need in hand and not what you might need.

I use the smaller ones for pilot holes to get a more precisely located hole. Then follow up with the sds, especially with plastered walls.
Opening post
3 separate sets of good quality DeWalt bits include 5 x wood , 5 x Masonry, 13 x Metal
Usually it is £9.99 for just one of the 3 sets you get, girl at the counter had to double check price and they were all surprised :0
The triple pack is usually £19.99 so half price :D
