Denon are a decent brand, Onkyo are cheap chinese rubbish though. Personally I'd look for a Sony, premium quality.!

Where Can you get the dali zensor for £100??
cicobuff
10 Jun 16#62
Pioneer VSX-510, Yamaha RX-S601, Marantz NR1506/1606. Not many slimline options out there, but those are latest models...main problem is they generally remain more expensive and closer to the RRPs than the majority of mid-range big box receivers that usually start at £500 and get discounted anywhere from £250-350 8-12 months after their release to market, such as this Denon.

Good deal but I wish they'd make these smaller. It seems the only reason they have to be so tall is so they can fit all the component video, composite video and analog audio inputs on the back. In this day and age surely most people only need HDMI and maybe one co-ax/optical digital audio input for non-video sources?

HDMI is best.

do you still need to use an optical cable for audio or is it best just to leave the HDMI cable to handle it?

Are you serious, Sony has produced quality audio direct from Japan for decades, and won many what hi fi awards.

They have reduced the shown price on the website now to £299, therefore theoretically you should be able to use the £10 off £100 or more spend from the email link on this and get it for £289 as you are not using in conjunction with any other offer.

I thought about it but for £100 I can get the Dali Zensor 3 which would give better overall sound. I won't be getting any rears til the end of this year anyway so lots of time to demo and compare, while prices fall hopefully haha
I hear that the rear speakers don't have to match as much as the fronts so I want to go for what will give me the best surround effect.

2 subwoofer outputs. Black connectors.
VDisillusioned
9 Jun 16#47
That doesn't make any sense. Why would it have a "subwoofer input"? It has two subwoofer pre-amp outputs.
rickinyorkshire

It says it has dedicated Subwoofer input but i can't seem to find it from the images on the net of the back of the unit?

Yeah, all brands have their problem models. Sony have made some classics in their time though.
I simply object to wide sweeping statements like Onkyo is cheap Chinese rubbish and Sony rules mofo. Especially when it is complete nonsense - Onkyo is Japanese.

Ah very good reviews indeed. If I had more money I'd look at the KEF's, absolute beauts. But it seems like the Dali would give me the powerful yet crisp sounds that I would want on the rear stands regardless. Very tempting and I'll keep an eye for offers (or wait for black friday/boxing day) https://www.cybermarket.co.uk/kef-ls50-speakers-special-edition-1214692.html

What's most important to pair is the front. Fronts and centre. The rest you can be a bit more careless with (in a way). Sub is the least most important to match.
Without hearing them all I can't give you much of an opinion on the sound quality. I must say the yellow driver would look a bit odd if you have the grille off with your existing fronts, which is a small thing to consider. Have a look at the Dali Zensor 3's.

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to AVR's and this was my first one haha I just can't decide what will go well with this AVR and my front set up. I want to get a 5.1.2 set up with two upward firing speakers down the road. I want good surround sound!

Very good AVR. I just bought it along with the Cambridge Aero 6's as the fronts and a svs sb2000 as the sub. I'm debating what rears to get. I'm stuck between:
1) B & W 685 S2
2) Dynaudio Emit M10
3) Cambridge Audio Aero 3
I heard that Dolby doesn't recommend bipole for Atmost though so the Aero 3's might be out of question. Not sure if the first two can be connected to the receiver as I haven't looked into it too much yet. Just been looking at reviews thus far and collating a list

Well its been out for well over 12 months the same as Atmos so can you name me more that 2 Bluray disks with a DTS:X sountrack?
Atmos is on dozens of Blurays, a few PS4 and Xboxone games and also available on select streaming sites.
Trouble is with the new sound formats (this will apply to both Atmos and DTS:X ) is film studio's are only releasing future titles that contain the Atmos/DTS:X soundtrack only on the UltraHD version of the disks therefore as well as having to invest in the speaker/amp you'll also need a £600 UltraHD bluray player. Deadpool is one of the first examples of this, on Bluray normal 7.1 soundtrack, on UltraHD an Atmos soundtrack.

That's correct if you have a 7.1 speaker system you only get pre-outs on zone 2.
The Pioneer I linked to above only has 7 discrete amps like this one but when set as a 7.1 speaker system you can still have conected speakers to zone 2, when you switch on the zone 2 speakers the amp will automatically switch to using a 5.1 system and power the zone 2 speakers simultaneously and automatically invoke all 7.1 when you've done with zone 2.

Is a good amp, I know as I own it! Yet to bother adding Atmos speakers though as seems little media supports it yet. You can control the amp via your mobile, loads of inputs etc. I upgraded from and older Onkyo - this is way superior.

Both Denon & Onkyo produce some higher end kit, Sony doesn't, and aside from the odd item, they have really slipped behind. Alas they are a company driven by lawyers and their screwing up of the HDMI format is testament to their malign influence.

I have this unit and am generally very happy with it and have Zone 2 wired up to a stereo ceiling speaker in my bathroom. I find annoying crackle on intranet radio and any airplay audio and if I turn on the main zone there are graphical glitches on the tv screen corresponding to the crackle sounds. Not got to the bottom of it but a planned rejig of my layout in the near future will hopefully sorry it. Interference is a pain...

Still can't decide on this or the Onkyo TXNR646. Though on Richer Sounds I note the Denon has rather more disappointed reviews complaining of bugs and faulty units compared to the Onkyo. 4.5/5 stars and 90% recommended by buyers, compared to 4.8/5 and 98% recommended for the Onkyo.

I bought this a few weeks back at £329. slightly peeved, but highly recommended. having all the ports HDCP 2.2 enabled as opposed to just *some* is a clear point of distinction between this and the competition.
excellent value for money. it's just a shame the promo is in store or telesale only.

Superfi had the X2200 rigged up to some power amplifiers in the theatre they built at Gadget Show Live a couple of months ago for Atmos demonstration. Personally I am not interested in Atmos, but a fantastic price for anyone wanting to 'future proof' and a great price for a mid-range receiver regardless, interested or not in Atmos/DTS:X, if I wasn't already more than happy with my Pioneer VSX-924 I would be all over this.
