I used to get really annoyed with cold callers, however since I changed my approach I am actually disappointed if a day goes by and I don't receive one.
It is such fun to play along with them and then drop the bomb.
When recently asked the registration number of the vehicle I had my accident in I informed "Dave" in Pakistan it was
Papa, 155, Oscar Foxtrot Foxtrot, slight delay whilst he wrote it down and then I was told to " go f##k my face!"
I told Dave to do likewise.........he still phones.

When did cold callers ever comply with legislation?

Dave calls you too? He normally has a bit of an incestural kink when he calls me as he's obsessed with me starting a sexual relationship with my mum!?
My record to date is just under an hour, yes I may be sad, yes I may need a hobby, but I see it as time we'll spend protecting people from these filthy, lying scumbags!!

Surely they just ship the "cold call" aspect over to India like they do now which totally gets around all UK/EU legislation?? That's how "Nev" does it and it also explains why I now get calls from "John" or "Jane" first, then get passed to a UK "Manager" when I tell them I'm interested to mess with them......

Great price. I paid £29.99 last year. Simple little gadgetthat blocks cold callers. I haven't had a single one since I bought it.

How does this work? If it just blocks calls that have no caller ID it might be redundant as new legislation means cold call companies have to present valid numbers now? Maybe that's why it's reduced?

If you want to block a number it's fine. You can block Unknown/Withheld/International numbers.
It comes with a list of inbuilt spam numbers. If you get a call from a number you don't want to let through, then you can press a button and add it to the block list. You can also set it to block Withheld/Unknown numbers, international numbers etc.
Problem is that some schools, gov depts, councils, nhs depts/doctor surgeries etc use automatically withheld numbers to contact you. As does cold callers so blocking these may mean you miss an important call.
For a tenner you can't really go wrong.

So one has to ask.... Why even plug the landline in?
We just plug ours in on the rare occasion we want to use it.

I had similar one and returned it. Cold callers hide their id. So you have to block all blocked Ids. But I was too worried blocking an important call, say from family abroad etc. It would only work for me if cold callers showed their number.
That's why, although this is good for the price, I got rid of mine and bought a phone with BT Call Guardian. You can set it to Announce Caller rather than automatically block all.
My Doctors Surgery, Dentists, and indeed my workplace all have their numbers withheld, and I was missing calls. Now Guardian will answer the phone without it ringing me and ask the caller to announce themselves and press a certain key. Genuine callers will give their name out, but the likes of Autodiallers etc wont press the number afterwards and so never get through.
My phone will then ring and tell me whose calling and then I have the choice to answer or not. My phone shows a lot of missed calls from a number that is known spam, but it never gets through (I must add that number to my block list at some point.)
I have set my phone to only allow direct calls from family and close friends, everyone else has to announce first.

There can be a downside. I played along with one of the window cleaners for ages before the rupee dropped and he lost his rag. He decided he'd like to call me again, and again, and again, to the point where I unplugged the phone. It must have been nearly 12 hours before he decided to give up.
On another occasion, I denied having any computing device he asked me about. Then, with an air of disbelief in his voice (as if I'd lie to such a fine fellow) he asked 'you don't have any computer?', to which I replied no, and I don't have a phone either, so you can't be speaking to me. He obviously believed me as he hung up, and hasn't called since.
