Is this a plunge router or made for fitting to a table as not sure from the description.
Took me a while converting my plunge router to work on a table as there was no permanent 'on' switch.

You can use it for both. I've got one of these and it seems quite good for the price. You can lock the switch on for use in a table or hold it on for extra safety if using it by hand. It's quite easy to mount in the table, so you can use it for both if you like. The table we used to have at work was quite fiddly to remove the router from so, we left it in all the time. It is only a ¼" collet, you can't go any bigger. The only thing I don't like is the plunge spring is quite strong, so it's hard to set the depth when it's in the table. If you search on the net though you can find a lot of designs for home made lifting devices to get around this.

I picked up the table today since I already have an existing router. I was originally using a bit of cut-off from an old worktop and had a phenolic plate put in the middle to hang my router from, but it was never that great for doing anything unless the router bit had a guide bearing on it. So hopefully this will do ok.
I was tempted to get the router as well but at a glance it only has a ¼" collet and there was no mention of upgrading it to a bigger size to match my existing bits. However I have a pet project of making a home CnC machine and it might be worth buying on my next visit to use it just for the motor for the milling component.

If the router is supplied with three collets (as advertised), that suggests it will take more than just 1/4" bits. That said, I have never found the need to use bits with any shaft diameter other than 1/4". The set of bits from Aldi is a good basic selection, and much cheaper than buying them separately.

Can someone who has actually bought or inspected the router say whether it does have collets other than 1/4", please? If not, what are the collet size(s) provided?

Yes it comes with 3 collets altogether. Not sure what size though.

6mm and 8mm. I can't see much use for them though, 1/4" is by far the most common router bit size.
