hdmi 1.4 carries 1080p60 just fine. do you have a 4K HDR tv? in which case this box was never designed for you.

For Kodi a Raspberry Pi is fine. I've a high end 7.2 setup 1080p using OpenElec (Isengard and Jarvis) works fine using Ethernet. Runs plex, youtube, iplayer, exodus, etc no issues. Make sure in Kodi you DISABLE the onboard processing / down sampling to force HDMI pass-through. This is under settings Audio. I have Jarvis on a B+ and Isengard on RP2. Also using a USB tuner (£3 for SD £16 HD) for Freeview with no DRM recording to NAS. great for remote viewing (on a TV in a room with no TV Ariel but with network access -I use powerline) and tablet (Android)

Video playback on this hardware is flawless not sure you need to spend more for 1080p video with high end audio via the HDMI out so the AV amp does the decode DTS etc..

No it's the Revo I mean, I did it myself and used media player home cinema to ensure use of the HD card. I have a Mac mini also and that plays HD content fine without the need for the Broadcom card, but it may be a more modern box than the one you mean.

Forgot to mention you do actually get a keyboard and mouse included with these.

I also use mine for steam game steaming which again the pc does an incredible job at. 1080p games from a gtx 980 pc over Ethernet no issues at all in kids bedroom. Combine this with the fact it runs full Windows so have access to MS word on it , pdf reader , access to drop box, can print , rdp to other pcs , run vsphere client , web to vcentre, run iTunes to access Apple Music, the list goes on. Not doing this all this on a shield or android tv. Any you could wouldn't be as easy on a Windows pc at this price range.
As has been said numerous times on here for £99 this is a great little device. Anyone who disagrees then they are entitled to their own opinion. But to say this is over priced and useless are very narrow minded of people. I am not saying this is the best pc in the world which with the cpu it can't be but it is £99 and incredibly useful and flexible device. For someone like me it is a great pc for the kids bedroom, living room PC or as an additional small office PC.
A lot of tasks I do anyway are done on a VM so this is a great little device to use as rdp client. I have the dual core version was looking for another but happy to splash out the extra £40 on the quad core.

A cheap old PC will typically be much bigger and consume much more power than this so once again you are comparing with a different class of PC.

I disagree. I have the dual core version and it is and excellent cheap htpc. Runs windows 10 surprisingly well. Runs plex, kodi and sky go.

Modern laptops don't allow you to upgrade the graphics card, CPU, RAM etc so are they also like consoles based on your logic?
There are many flavours of PC and this is one and is clearly not a console or stick.

Good luck finding a non-soldered processor in those consoles and other gaming boxes which are not comparable to this at all.
Windows doesn’t have many apps but it does have more applications than all those toy boxes you mentioned put together.

I have an old Revo 3610. I also have the M1601 Lower down dual core version of this box. For Kodi this box is excellent because the on chip hardware video decoding, it is much faster, with smoother quality video and full kodi support in LibreELEC.

​All the android boxes come with hdmi 2.0. If you ever checked. Nvidia shield, play station and xbox come with hdmi 2.0 as well. This x86 bloated windows box is expensive and slow because windows does not support many apps.

i'm really not sure, i was thinking of replacing my r3610 with this, but mine's just got 4gb+ssd, so i think i'll pass on this.

the 32gb emmc in this puts me off, i'd rather an ssd, and we don't know how performant that intel-hd graphics is going to be. the cpu according to some benchmarks should be twice the speed of an n330 atom but from reviews it doesn't seem so, and cpu/cores doesn't really matter for kodi, ffmpeg is single-tasking.

Why sell this with freedos ?
It would be much more usable out of the box with free Linux mint or ubuntu.

You both seem pretty clued up on the Revo 3600. Can either of you tell me if there would be any benefits to upgrading to this given I purely use my 3600 (or it might be a 3610, I can't remember!) for XBMC/Kodi and would be doing the same with this?

purely because it had onboard nvidia ion graphics, the cpu was irrelevant (like the raspberry pi) this has intel-hd graphics (braswell) so not sure how well that compares running kodi - they only just added vaapi support for hardware accelerated intel, but that does include h265/hvec.

Just had to send my previous nettop back to ebuyer due to failure. Despite all the horror stories they were excellent in processing a refund.

I've been using HTPCs for over 10 years, the Shield is the best experience I have ever had.

I used to have a *very* good NVidia-based passively-cooled PC connected to my TV but the Shield plays things back just as well and is completely silent and hassle free.

People, don't worry about this playing 1080p content, anything these days will, the Acer Revo 3600 Nettop from 2009 played 1080p content without issue!

This would make a fantastic Kodi machine if that's what you're wanting. It also won't struggle as a basic PC, 4GB of RAM would be nice though.

The days of judging a CPU's performance by the frequency is long gone, many laptop CPU's run from 1GHz and up, some like this one have a turbo boost feature that means it can run at up to 2.4GHz under certain conditions. Being dual or quad core all make a difference as does the onboard cache memory etc. That said this is a fairly low end CPU but doesn't mean it isn't usable for everyday tasks.
The relatively small eSSD hard drive and 2GB ram might hinder Windows performance, so increasing the ram to 4GB certainly would help a bit. No idea if the eSSD can be upgraded at all.

I run Windows 10 on the celeron version and it works just fine. No problem installing drivers. Windows 7 did have some driver issue.

Does it have ethernet? Couldn't tell from the description, one place looked like it did the other didnt!

I'm guessing this would run Kodi just fine.... what benefits would I have with a device like this one compared to a FireStick for instance? I'm getting annoyed with the Firestick's limited support for surround sound.

This would run a basic Win7 Win10 operating system OK.
Also Linux and Kodi would run fine. Attach a wireless KB and Mouse and there you go.

This would be a whole lot better than the Celeron N3050 version they had on sale a few months ago.

No hdmi 2.0., soldered processor which cannot be upgraded. Negative from me. Cannot be used as multimedia box. I won't buy any hdmi 1.4 multimedia pc now as my TV has all hdmi 2.0 sockets. Must be old rubbish clear out by ebuyer.
