Fathers Day Special, The rib eye steak is aged for 14 days, trimmed and sold with the bone in to enhance the flavour
Recommended cooking method for the steak is frying and sealing it first, for around three minutes each side, before browning in the oven for a further 25 minutes for a medium steak

In response to the above poster I weighed both the bone and meat...the bone was 25% of the total weight so far from being "more bone than meat"...(as a comparison the bone in a T Bone steak is usually about 20% of the weight)

i went to Verwood on Friday ... none left, went to New Milton at 9 am Saturday morning, asked for a 42 onzer.... nope said the bearded specticled butcher, oh why not i asked, his reply in a brash voice all sold so you wont be getting one, as he was laughing.
i emailed morrisons, as i was shocked at the way this person (morrisons front of shop) person spoke to me
im happy with the out come

Don't know why people are whinging about the bone. It's still a massive steak for £15. Bargain!

it just a PR Gimmick the steak looks nothing like any of the photos the butcher at morrisons told me its just a gimmick he cut a bit of steak to the same size a the tomahawk steak and weighed it and it weighed 7oz just for the meat so your paying for the weight of the big bone more than the meat it self.

This deal should be expired as it is obvious what Morrisons are doing I went today at 8:50 and none left .The butcher told me he had 6 over the last two days .Hartlepool ,very disappointed and will only be visiting Morrisons in the future to collect amazon stuff .I grabbed two bottles of vodka on my way to the butchers at the back of the shop only to place them back on the shelf on my way out .

Morrison in Verwood received 8 of these steaks to sell on 16/06/2016 and I traveled to the store at 07.00 opening on 17/062016 and got the last 2 of the 8 they had received that day. I was the fourth in the "queue" and all the others behind me were left disappointed. Not very well serviced offer at all.

None in Wells Morrisons, doesn't look like they ever had them, the butcher said he had no idea what a tomahawk steak was let alone stock them.

17 Jun 16#68
My one actually weighed in at 35oz (1kg) so not too bad. To put this into perspective a butcher online is selling 600g ones for £20 and Marks and Spencers are doing one (approx 1kg) for £25 so the Morrisons deal is/was a good one. They will always cover themselves by saying "while stocks last" but if each store only had around 20 each they should have not allowed a single customer to buy a box full as reported by a previous poster.

I just get a single rib cut from then with the big eye of a large rib joint.
Tesco do bone in rib joints @£10kg sometimes which are just ok
The Waitrose is nicer but a lot more
If there is a reduced joint buy the lot trim to the bone for a sensible size and get a thin steak from the between the bones for the mrs.

the cost in fuel to travel to 3 stores as well must have **** you off. from what I was told today there were only 6 delivered to most stores for some reason. and as a working Man this deal is obviously not for me as I'm not able to go shopping a 8am so they're dole dosser steaks imo :stuck_out_tongue:

Word of warning - do not travel for this deal, I have been to/called three stores in south Hampshire and ALL THREE were sold out within minutes of opening, this is a cheap nasty sales ploy to get you into store, real shame really. Anyone else had better luck?

I went in to my local Morrisons today. Around 12, and they only had one left. It was slightly bigger than a regular steak but with a massive, wholly unnecessary bone coming out of it.
I won't be bothering with this I think. Only aged 14 days as well, I doubt it will taste particularly good anyway.

Another Crawley store visitor, sold out within minutes as they only had a few. I'm not surprised the butcher's department wasn't staffed for long, I imagine they were getting alot of hassle from annoyed customers. Bit surprised in Morrison's tactics to get footfall knowing most customers couldn't buy the offer and advertising something most wouldn't get ie no steaks over 32oz, they must believe a fool and his money are easily parted.

had only one left in my morrisons (lelyland) looked about 16 oz including bone ... ive eaten bigger sirloins, was not impressive
I wish they'd stop this ripoff marketing ploy (if true). In the states (or california at least), if any offers of any kind go out of stock, then you can get a 'rain check', which guarantees you one at the offer price, i.e. the retailer has to supply you with one. Pretty common sense it should be like that imv, otherwise these deals are open to so much abuse by retailers.

Don't bother. Butcher at my local confirmed only 20 per store and he'd sold all by 9:30. He said he didn't know if they were getting any more in. Besides, he said they range from 28oz to 42oz and he only got ones at the lower end of the scale. Taking the weight of the bone into account, he told me i'd be lucky to get 2 x 8oz steaks out of it.

I looked in Crawley, and none around anywhere, and no one on the meat counter to ask. No signs about them too, which i thought odd. Can anyone actually eat that amount of meat? I used to be a big eater, and had trouble with a 32oz in my prime, although i managed it, the last quarter wasn't enjoyable. The wetherspoons 14oz does me these days, surprisingly good quality (most of the time).
Not sure the price in a restaurant is a good guide to the value when bought from a supermarket.

If anyone wants one of these i'd get down Morrisons very sharpish....went into my local one 7:30 this morning, the butcher had 2 left but told me when they opened at 7am, barely half an hour earlier, he had around 20....
Must say I'm a little disappointed with mine, there's no way it's 42oz, i would say 30oz tops and probably a third of that is the weight of the bone. That siad you would pay a minimum of £45-50 in a restaurant for one of these so still a good deal...

Morrisons online don't get there stock from stores, they have a dedicated butcher department at the distribution depot that cuts all meat to order

I prefer to hang it, open, in the garage until a bloom appears on the outside. Just scrape it off before cooking. The extra putrefaction does wonders for the flavour.

To me it means pick out the 3 biggest looking and take them over to sme scales to weigh them, then pick the biggest, checking the bone situation of course.
istr that before the eu, the weight was the minimum weight allowed (i.e. a 2 lbs steak would be 2lbs or greater). The eu then said the weight (with an 'e' after it), is the average weight of a batch, so some weigh less and others more - not sure of the allowed variation (in fact not certain of all of this, just in the back of my mind). I'm sure someone knows.

I've only cooked a tomahawk steak once - got it from M&S - ribeye on the bone is absolutely delicious - very difficult to persuade butchers to source it.
Used a convection/microwave, fairly big one, but not sensibly big enough for the steak - had to wedge it in, positioned diagonally corner to corner - fed four people very nicely.
I've no idea how they think someone is going to fit that steak in a frying pan - might be an idea to blowtorch brown it instead.
Hot deal!
