I wouldn't risk it - I am ex-forces and spent 10 years conducting security analysis/risk management for the Government.
I had a long weekend planned for my family in Istanbul in June but, just my opinion, with the sheer amount of alternative holiday locations it's not worth the risk of heading to Turkey. *shrug*
But you pays your money and you takes your chances.

Cheap cause no one wants to go.
Terrorists are looking for British people to kidnap.]
Avoid Turkey like the plague this year.
It is an Islamic country with Islamic laws.
And its human rights record is awful.
When you go there, spend your money there, you are helping a corrupt regime that supports terror and murder.

There are not many flights released yet for December so not many options at the moment on flights.
You can go on the 1st December from Stansted for 7 nights (via pegasus airways good flight times) and stay a Fantasia Deluxe all inclusive 5* and will work out to £556 total (£278 each) so not a bad price at all, but will be very expensive over xmas for sure.

Im in Istanbul now - still alive  (famous last words :stuck_out_tongue: ). seriously though - it's a gigantic country - the UK is at the highest level of alert - threat imminent - as long as you avoid the east, it's difficult to see that you would be at any tangible risk.

Am I missing something obvious, I thought your line about Turkey and December and Xmas was fantastic. I've even looked at most if the comments and no one has picked this up. Shame.
I'm sure at a push if there was a great deal at Xmas the Mrs will cook a turkey lol :stuck_out_tongue:

You could say similar about France and Belgium, yet we have few qualms about going to either.

Give it a bloody rest mate. Been to Turkey early in the year and had an awesome time (a group of 10 including children). Going back again in August then to Dubai for 14 nights.

maybe your definition of 'safe' is different to the english definition of 'safe' :-)
joking aside, each person has their own idea of what is 'worth risking' for a cheaper holiday, and personally, I wouldn't be bothered about Turkey at the minute.
And Belfast is a lovely place. I worked there for a large part of 2009, digging it near the Asda in Andersontown. Hardly had any bother, aside from the wing mirrors getting kicked off the van a couple of times.

Only back from AI in Marmaris had a great time. Turks are always friendly but they're going above and beyond at minute.
Can't understand why people are so quick to say wouldn't go to Turkey yet Marmaris is 2 plane rides away from where the majority of fighting is. Only my opinion but at the minute virtually nowhere is safe bar a deserted island in the Indian Ocean and good luck with booking one of them AI for a week.

If you can't see why people are dubious of Turkey at the minute, then you really need to take your head out of the sand. Turkey shares a land border with Syria, and is playing a bit of a game regarding the various fighting factions. If you disagree with the people who don't want to go, that's fair enough, but to say you can't see why they would say that is just plain dumb.
