The G1 is good budget dashcam but not as good quality as transcend. i have the 200 and 220. the 200 with silver ring hasnt been an issue as of yet, touchwood. left in wifes car 24/7 and parked outside house on the road. 220 will only stay on and record for as long as the battery lasts. personally dont see the point. at mo i have it set to stay on but might switch it off.

Are you sure you mean the G1WH ?
It looks 2 or 3 times the size of the Drivepro 200 ?

Yes I have been reading up and you can probably include a USB powerbank in your car for 24x7 recording, hardwire the power bank using "add a fuse" to a fuse thats only powered when the car is on and then plug your dashcam into that.
I have decided to take the 2 Transcend dashcams back, I thought there would be more options on the device to allow me to set how long it continues to record after switching the ignition off as it has a battery in it, however this option does not exist. Also the picture quality seems to me to be on par with the G1WH which is £30 on ebay and considerably smaller, also reading up about it most people are covering the silver bezel with black electrical tape which then starts to make a nice looking unit look a bit tacky.

...Or use a USB Power Bank like i said in my post here :
one problem with batteries is that a car is a very hostile place for dashcams with batteries - the summer heat causes them to age quickly, and many have dead batteries within a couple of years if not less
the best solution if you want more of a CCTV camera for parking, is an always-on power socket wired back to the battery, and a super-capacitor to keep the camera running and/or smooth the power to prevent glitches.

Hello,
I appreciate your kind reply.
Yes, that was one of my first choices, but only comes with a 6m rear cam cable. I asked - without success - various eBay sellers of that K1S if they could locate and sell me an extended rear camera cable for that model. One of them said they can't recommend a longer cable as the picture quality of that model would be extremely poor.
Thanks

I use one of these for my car and never had any issues with it (was using the 16GB SD card that come with it) and realised the other day I could add a 32GB SD card (doh!) so now is even better.
Emergency recording is accurate (sharp braking etc).
I've used a couple of other dashcams before (cheaper) and it's a 'get what you pay for' situation.
Hello,
Thanks OP's for posting the Transcend cams. Unfortunately my van presents additional issues, that after months of looking have left me seriously in need of advice:
Can ANYONE recommend a crash-cam set for a 7m long motorhome with:
1. Small front windscreen-mounted full HD crash cam that can be tucked under the rear-view mirror (for security so I don't have to keep removing it + could possibly record any prob's when parked-up),
2. Rear bumper or window mounted full HD crash cam (1920x1080p min video resolution, so I can see clear footage/ number plates at night),
3. Rear camera can be connected to the reversing light to enable dual use as a reversing camera function (as it's terrible to park at the moment, taking ages + blighted by blind-spots)
4. Monitor that can enable reversing cam vision, preferably not the mini-mirror ones as theyr are too small to be useful)?
The campervan is 7 metres long, so I may need 10m-12m cable to route essential cables from the front controls/monitor, around the interior camping fittings, to the rear of the van.
Please let me know what can be bought in UK/fitted by a mechanic. Preferably not more than £200 max equipment cost.
All help gratefully appreciated. Thanks
p.s. tried eBay, Amazon, AccidentCameras.co.uk + DashWitness.co.uk but no suitable products.
Good luck with that one. I bought one off Ebay claiming to be full HD it was full rubbish. Couldn't make out a single number plate unless parked right behind a car stationary. The best cheapo dash cam you can buy is the G1W (or is it GW1) around £30, but theres a lot of clones out there so it's still a gamble. The transcend is actually HD and very well equipped.
No point in buying one that doesn't do what you actually need it to in the event of an incident.

How do you know it's the same quality? (serious question)
Some people suddenly seem to be getting excited over real cheap dashcams available on a certain auction site. If they want to throw their money down the drain, fine, carry on.
There's an old maxim: buy cheap, buy twice.
I bought 2 of those 'GV1W' or whatever they're called off Amazon, both of them barely lasted a year. Also, something you have to bear in mind about good ratings on Amazon etc, most of the reviews are given having had the item for days, weeks or maybe a few months. They don't give you any idea of the item's longevity/reliability.
Another old maxim; fools are easily parted with their money.
jnigel26
3 May 16#107
Just to add...
Anyone who has one of these, can you tell me where it's made?
I bet I don't have to guess more than once!
I have been wanting a dashcam for a while, but have held off because prices are plummeting. A friend got one last month from the big C on a well known site for less than a tenner. He waited nearly a month for it to arrive but told me over the bank hol that he's pleased as punch with it so I must get to have a look. Makes this sound bloody expensive - I'll have a look in mo to see which one he got.

As an alternative I have the SJCAM SJ4000 used as a dash cam. It's smaller and more discreet than the DrivePro. The video quality is really good, it's cheaper, has more features, and comes with loads of accessories. The newer SJ7000 is even cheaper and has a larger screen. Watch out for imitations though. eBay is flooded with them. Genuine versions have a hologram scratch off serial number which can be verified on SJCAM's web site.

I ordered two of the 220 version of these for home delivery (should be here tomorrow).
I now think I would be ok / better off with this one, the cheaper 200 version.
Only problem is I have already used the £10 vouchers that came (by email) with the other more expensive ones already...
What would happen if I return the 220's to Argos (once they arrive) given that I have already redeemed the vouchers relating to them?
Thanks for any advice :-)

Had one of these for a couple of months and it stopped working. Might have been an issue with the stop/go in our car causing the recording to reset as it can't seem to handle momentary power interrupts and then takes around 5secs or so to restart recording. Still, it's not like there's ever any accidents when you start off at a junction.

I looked into getting one of these a while ago, but decided against it simply due to how easily it can be seen while fixed in the car. A dash cam should be able to be left in the car all the time, as otherwise it won't get used all the time.
I did my research, and yes these really are great dash cams, but imho more suited to truck drivers or professional drivers who need them for work purposes but change vehicles regularly.
I ended up going for a Mobius action cam which also has excellent video recording quality, but is far more discreet, and can be fitted far more discreetly.
Link might help someone, as these are an authorized seller so safely original. eBay has many fakes about so be careful.....
Please can anyone help me can I use it as home Cctv for record outside but if I stick it from my window in bedroom
Thank you for your support
jon67 to amir777
2 May 16#36
Yes you can use it as a home cctv. Buy a 32gb card and set the resolution to 720p for longer recording time before it overwrites previous data.
Just buy a cheap mini usb phone charger to power it.
There are loads on eBay for older phones that will fit.
I have an old Motorola one that does the job.

You can in fact use this Dashcam 'anywhere' as it's 'completely portable' as it also WORKS when you use it with ANY Power Bank that are used to charge other devices.
So you can walk around with it or fit to your bike, etc !

The day time recording is good and clear. However night time is not as good , you may struggle to see number plates and also if you have HID kit fitted to your car this will prevent you from seeing the car number plate in front of you at traffic lights etc...This is due to them reflecting onto the plate.
Trandscend and other manufactures can make good kit but in my opinion have made them too big. If you leave it in the car when going shopping or over night you run the risk of these larger cameras being stolen and you window being broken etc...
The other down side to this camera is it has a shinny silver ring around the lens , which really makes it stand out...
If these points are of no bother then , its the camera for you.
If its not excluded from their returns policy buy and try it

It looks 2 or 3 times the size of the Drivepro 200 ?
I have decided to take the 2 Transcend dashcams back, I thought there would be more options on the device to allow me to set how long it continues to record after switching the ignition off as it has a battery in it, however this option does not exist. Also the picture quality seems to me to be on par with the G1WH which is £30 on ebay and considerably smaller, also reading up about it most people are covering the silver bezel with black electrical tape which then starts to make a nice looking unit look a bit tacky.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/transcend-drivepro-200-69-99-argos-2440753?p=27921158
the best solution if you want more of a CCTV camera for parking, is an always-on power socket wired back to the battery, and a super-capacitor to keep the camera running and/or smooth the power to prevent glitches.
Edit: it is version 2, with a battery.
I appreciate your kind reply.
Yes, that was one of my first choices, but only comes with a 6m rear cam cable.
No point in buying one that doesn't do what you actually need it to in the event of an incident.
EDIT : It looks like it could well NOT be the same quality if it's this one... https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/uk-%C2%A330-dashcam-at-aldi-with-3-year-warranty.15093/page-3
Anyone who has one of these, can you tell me where it's made?
I bet I don't have to guess more than once!

Transcend DP 100 does have a battery and can go weeks without losing the date /time.
Happy to be proved wrong :-)

Regarding date and time, it is visible on vid, left bottom corner. Also in file properties.
For the money, it is a bargain. No GPS, but I had a more expensive GPS model before (BlackVue) and within a year the picture quality was terrible.
I've got 2 of these and both are rock solid on the windscreens. Having previously had 2 other makes, this is easily the best dashcam at the price.
Something you need to watch though, some suppliers are doing the one with a sticky pad mount, the Argos one comes with the better suction mount.
Have I? Yes
Video playback is smooth.

Thank you for your support
Just buy a cheap mini usb phone charger to power it.
There are loads on eBay for older phones that will fit.
I have an old Motorola one that does the job.
So you can walk around with it or fit to your bike, etc !
For example the Pebble 5200mah Power Bank here (obviously replace the phone below with the Dashcam) :
I've also put a 128Gb SDXC MicroSD in it and it lasts for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS.....you get the idea........LOL
...or it did when I bought mine, some reviews state "suction cup", but then so did the reviews on the site I bought mine from!
If its not excluded from their returns policy buy and try it
Can anyone who has one comment how long their holds the memory unplugged as I am considering buying another but don't know if it was a one off faulty one I had.
This model has a capacitor rather than a battery for backup but according to the specs should last a few days without power.
Also if you set it to sync to your mobile it can be set to automatically pick it up from your phone.
Do they expect some sort of air suspension?
Only thing I did not like was the silver ring round the lens drawing attention to it, but this was soon resolved with some black electricians tape.
Anyone know where I could get this hard wired around Leicestershire? How much would I be looking to pay? Thanks
Heat added btw
I like that it has wifi, and i can save footage straight to my phone via the Transcend App.
