It's criminal that old games are being 'remastered' to play on new consoles and we have to pay extra for the privilege. I mean it's not like we have to buy upgraded versions of PC programs to work with the latest operating systems on our computers... oh, wait :smirk:

Alternatively, people should try to understand the reasons most sensible people put over rather than just parroting the usual 1 dimensional guff and applying it to all the nay sayers.
No one has to buy anything, no one is holding a gun to anyone's head and so on, but if people think that's the long and short of the issue, then they're missing the point a lot of people are making when it comes to remasters.
Take Capcom for example, they've now put a lot of their resources into remastering old games, resources that could have been put into new ips, better sequels and so on. Instead, they're giving us unoriginal old titles. And why not? It's easy money. Rather than seeing much evolve, this will just be another carbon copy of last gen, with the only difference being games now come with a new lick of paint.
I can't recall another gen of consoles sticking so closely to the last. So much so we now have the exact same games coming thick and fast.
I personally have no issue with remasters as it's allowing me to play games I didn't have a chance to play on the PS3, but I can fully appreciate what the nay sayers are complaining about.

I don't have an issue with remasters either because I never I had a PS3. I had a 360 last gen and there was a lot of people like me who moved over from the 360 to the PS4 for this gen not just for a change but to have the chance to play exclusives like the Last of Us and the Uncharted games. If there wasn't a market for it these remasters wouldn't come out.

I currently have a PS3 and have B2S still in its wrapper for years). I don't yet have a PS4. I couldn't care less how many older games they remaster (HD'fy), in fact i'm all for it (so long as next gen titles keep on coming for when I do get a PS4). All the moaning comes across as very childish.
I mean, when the hardware moved from DVD to Blu-ray films are we all somehow supposed to be entitled to the HD versions just because we had the DVD? Your answer should be "No".

I agree with you until we get into the idea of digital marketplaces. If you buy a game on Steam/iOS/Android then that game will work across platforms for years and years to come regardless of whether or not you upgrade to a new phone/PC/whatever.
It is only the Xbox and PlayStation that have pushed digital marketplaces where your digital purchases are only worth anything until the next generation of hardware hits and IMHO that approach is wrong. Both have made small efforts towards supporting it now but there is still a lot of stuff that Sony could make cross-platform but have chosen not to do so on purpose.

Don't underestimate the greed of these companies. They will remaster some PS4 games which is really sad if you think about getting remasters of games from the same gen. Either way upgraded consoles will kill console gaming so hope those are just rumours from sites that are desperate for clicks. Theres no way "Neo" actually exists or its just a PS4 slim.

But that's kind of defeating the purpose. Those games allow you to make your own experience and include different branching paths. In fact in many ways they are far more dynamic than most modern big budget games, especially the likes of Battlefield and CoD.
I guess the problem with them, if you want to call it that, is that games like Heavy Rain require some sort of minimal intelligence and artistic understanding in order for someone to be able to comprehend what they are trying to do. You might be better off sticking with FIFA I think.

I don't see the point in paying for movie games as I get the exact same experience as someone who paid full price and multiple endings or cutscenes don't bother me either as there are videos of those as well. Your right i'll stick to FIFA as at least its a videogame not a movie.

I'm also enjoying the opportunity to play remastered games as I had skipped the PS3 generation.
I'm still confused why these nay sayers would expect that some companies should invest more of their resources in new IPs or better sequels.
These companies must have made the decision and decided it was not worth the risk. They are only answerable to their shareholders and if they believe it is in their best interests to not take that risk then I could understand that. This is their investment decision.
If a fan disagrees with their decision then they could decide not to support them by not purchasing these games. Why they get so angry as well I don't know.

Your ignorance is mind blowing. These are consoles not PCs so if you want to waste money then go right ahead but the whole point of consoles is that they are fixed hardware. It will also kill competitive multiplayer on consoles as people with upgraded consoles will have the advantage over regular PS4 owners. Just look at how dead multiplayer games are the PC and that includes COD which is the biggest franchise in gaming yet multiplayer dies out very fast due to people playing at different framerates. If these consoles are that underpowered i'd rather they just make a PS5 with PS4 backwards compatibility. Oh and you want progress but if we have upgraded consoles they will always be held back because of the original PS4 hardware so basically somewhere along PS5, PS5.5, PS6, PS6.5 will all be restricted because devs will be forced to make sure it works on the original PS4 which will have crap ports because it can't support the games devs want. It annoys me how ignorant people like you are ruining gaming for everyone.
Like I said before if you want to upgrade then get lost and stick to your PC.

"Either way upgraded consoles will kill console gaming" Reeeeally??? Over-reacting much???
Personally as a PS3 owner I'm praying the NEO/PS4K is real. I've waited this long for some kind of PS4 slim type upgrade so this would be more than perfect (even at a slight bump on cost).
Again, I don't get why everyone is crying so much over a super PS4. It's not like we all have 4K TV's that a ready to go (I still have 50" Plamsa which I love and don't intend on upgrading anytime soon).
I'm predominantly a PC gamer. New hardware and ever more hardware intensive games appear every 6-12 months. Do I cry over it NO! It's all progress and progress is a good thing. Do I wish I had an 980 GTX SLi setup so I can 4K game (on a 4K monitor that I don't even own)? Of course I do!
The thing is all that higher end goodness costs a lot of money which which most can't afford. Am I mad I'm playing the same game @ 1080p without Ultra textures? No. As with everything else in life, If I want it I have to pay for it.
A PS4K(NEO) is a very good thing. It gives people more choice and pushes boundaries. Plus, everything Sony/Dev's learn from it will trickle down to make the PS5 even better.
NEO could end up costing £5-700 (who knows?) that may be out of most peoples comfort range for a console We'll all have to judge once it hopefully appears and decide if I/you think it's worth it. Don't be mad because it exists. It won't affect your PS4 games and console gaming will certainly not be killed off WHATSOEVER!

If Sony and MS do make upgraded consoles i guarantee console gaming will die. Just look at how that model worked out for the Street Fighter franchise milking .5 upgrades and now that has caused Street Fighter 5 to bomb in sales. Same thing will happen to upgraded consoles as people will get fed up of upgrading and fewer and fewer people will upgrade. People forget to realize the reason PS4 sold so well was because there was a massive thirst for new consoles but that won't happen with PS5 if Sony are stupid enough to do .5 upgrades.

Wow! someone's being a little grumpy so and so today :smirk:
OK, so you make a point to tell me these are "consoles" and "NOT PCs" and have "fixed hardware" (thanks for that) and then continue to use PC multi-player gaming as an example of what will happen to console multi-player gaming!?!?
You've just contradicted your own argument. Look, consoles will not have the same level of frame-rate, lag, performance variation that PCs have because, you said it, they are far more hardware specific (locked down). PCs are open season for every mod, cheat, tweak under the sun so you shouldn't be comparing them in this way.
What I was specifically getting at (I didn't mention multi-player at all as I don't do it on any format) was the boost in visual quality (graphics/possibility of 4K gaming) that's all. From what I've read that is the main thing a PS4.5 will bring, essentially a tick box that enables HD+ visuals. The processing power required for 4K @ 60fps is huge. You make it sound like a PS4.5 will have tons of spare horsepower to make games so much faster than PS4 games. Newsflash! the extra power will all be used up trying to push HD+ resolutions. e.g If a PS4 can run Uncharted 4 @ 60fps/1080p then a PS4.5 may (just may) also run @ 60fps/4K. IT'S ALL RELATIVE!!!!
As far as multi-player across a 2 tier PS4. The actual performance should balance out (so no huge advantage as you like to think) and on top of that with consoles being do specialised and locked down Sony should be able invoke a hard limit on performance cross platform. I really don't think you have a point and are way over-reacting. This is all speculation but I see a PS4.5 purely geared towards enhanced visuals driven by ever growing 4K TVs and maybe better results with PS VR.
darkspace100
5 May 16#51
Your just making random BS up like claiming framerate will balance out because they are locked but having two separate types of hardware is not fixed hardware so yes it could mean higher framerate which turns multiplayer into pay to win. Look just stick to your never ending upgrading on PC. The whole point of a console is its suppose to be a one off purchase unless it breaks, slim model or a new gen console. If Sony think PS4 is so underpowered then they should just put the resources into a PS5. Thats what this rumoured PS4 is. A PS4 slim. There will be no upgrades or whatever so don't get your hopes up.

OK firstly, I had to correct that use of the small letter I there because I couldn't let that one slide.
Secondly, console gaming won't die if NEO and an Xbox equivalent do surface (which is looking pretty likely at this point). Instead it will just become more awkward. The most likely outcome will be that very few titles will support the new hardware properly like in the case of the PlayStation Eye and Kinect and the new hardware will mostly just be used for 4k streaming video.
Thirdly, Street Fighter hasn't died it has just changed audiences. Fighting games in general lost most of their mainstream appeal years ago when Joe Public moved on to shooters instead and now you have a hard-core crowd following Street Fighter especially and they spend enough on it to keep it going. What it does mean though is that most of Street Fighter's rivals (e.g. Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive) have either fallen by the wayside, gone free to play or in the case of the latter two, now just try to appeal to the lowest possible denominator.
