Fat gives flavour. I really don't understand why meat eaters buy lean mince... May as well use quorn.
It's like buying a sirloin and asking the butcher to trim off the fat!

Just learn to cook properly - fat is good! Much better to fill yourself up with some quality fat rather than sugary junk.....
Although I imagine this would be from factory farm raised cows, not grass fed free rangers.

I sieve my mince regardless the fat content anyway and if I loose 22% it's still mega cheap
Voted hot, but wish it was the 5% mince, albeit much smaller packs.
Good that Iceland seem to be doing these weekly deals though and no doubt some will suit.
The butter last week was a great deal.

23% fat, rather high, but for £1 what a bargain. I'll have to pop in and get some to freeze.

I noticed all their meat shows the Union Flag. But not the tractor. Description is "slaughtered and packaged in the UK"

This just says "Packaged in the UK". Could be anything from anywhere.

I know its a loss leader but really you have to wonder who is 'paying' for them to be able to sell this cheap..even if it is hugely fatty!

No... dice some carrots and onions (and some celery if needs be) in equal amounts and add a clove of crushed garlic, fry, add mince and water with 1 level tablespoon of tomato concentrate to cover mince, add salt (chefs not table) and pepper simmer for a few hours slowly, adding a glass of nice red 2/3 the way through cooking.
The sauce becomes meaty not tomato based.
Use tagliatelle as the meat sauce covers more pasta, use pasta twirls as a substitute and fold the spag ball through the twists till all the nook and crannies are covered in your meaty sauce.
Waste fat on a meaty sauce indeed...lol
Do you make gravy with powder and water by any chance after you take the roast out ?

Having grew up and worked for about 15 years in the meat industry and now do something completely different that actually makes money, would I buy Mince Beef, simple answer is no. This one may have a high fat content but the actual meat used to get to that actual content is poor. Unfortunately the supermarkets pushed to take over all aspects of the food industry and all you are left with on the meat side is packaging factories, no real quality or thought going into products especially on the lower end of the scale.

Went to my local butcher last week, something I don't usually do, but he was doing 5kg of lean mince for £10 so same price as this if you have the room to freeze it. Just a reminder that it's sometimes beneficial to check the butcher for stuff like this. Probably better quality too.

Great price. For all those people complaining about fat content - Burgers are best at 80% meat, 20% fat. Fat = flavour.

My local store only had two packs left, both with today's date so labelled as reduced to 50p per pack. At that price, I'm more than happy to drain off the excess fat!
